Iconics' Races

Alpha Playtest Feedback General Discussion

So... I noticed a couple of interesting things with the iconics. First, there isn't a single one of the iconics that has a race-favored class combination. I mean, I like the variation, but... Elf Rogue? Gnome Druid? Dwarf Ranger? Halfling Bard? Points for the variation, but it's kind of odd.

Second, not even a single Half-Orc or Half-Elf! I know they are but halfbreed races, but you'd think they would still get an iconic just to say, "Hey, these arecs might not be as common, but they're still important." I know it's finalised, but maybe just a Half-Orc Monk and Half-Elf Paladin or something?

The last Iconic will be a half elf sword & sorcery multiclass.

For the first party, they wanted the traditional party. Elves are much more recognizable then halflings and gnomes, so they're out for the first group. Seoni's the busty spellcaster, so that works. So cleric or rogue for the elf? Rogue. The only thing they really could have done differently IMHO was made a dwarf cleric, but I know the Kyra fanboys wouldn't like that very much. ;)

While some of the race-class combinations may initially seem odd, I think Paizo did well in stepping outside the usual lines. An elf rogue, while somewhat unusual, works nicely; bonuses to Dex, Spot, Listen, and Search checks are nothing to sneeze at for a rogue, not to mention the free Search checks for hidden doors. And since gnomes in Golarion are heavily associated with the fey, it isn't so out of character that the gnome iconic be a druid. And I just like the idea of Harsk. I see them just as Paizo reimagining old ideas and looking at things from a new angle. Anyway, that's my 2 cp.

You said it. We must be thankful for the beautiful, busty Varisian women, may the gods bless them! ;)
