I've decided I will not retrain Arloric's weapon proficiency after all. I'm sticking with longswords. Sorry for bugging you all about it!

Here's how the silence will work.

As an emanation, the spell constantly radiates its effect outward, updating and shifting as the area changes. If you place silence on the door, it will emanate outward from both sides of the door - you don't pick one side and then have it emanate only on that side, any more than if you cast it on a person it targets one point on their body and emanates out from there, with their body blocking part of the emanation and creating a "noise shadow." The entire target emanates the aura of silence for the duration.

This means that you won't make any noise breaking down the door or shutters, but you won't be able to hear anything, either. Also, if there's someone on the other side, they may become aware that the silence effect has fallen.

You don't know where the shutters lead; they are on the second floor, so they don't go into the ground floor room. If you had an idea of what was on the other side you could make an informed decision about whether silence would tip your hand or not.

What if it's cast on a point on the ground in front of the door? That is what I am getting at when I say "cast on one side of the door". I mean, it's cast somewhere that envelops the door, but only one side of it is facing the emanation.

Current map: Below the Library of Kaer Maga

Sure, you can do that. The door will block the emanation until you break a hole through it, at which point the emanation will come through that hole (the aforementioned "noise shadow").

Ahhh, what the heck. Let's be bold. If we put Silence on the door itself, that may alert someone to our presence, but...if someone is there to be caught up in Silence, then they are also right in front of the door, too. This way, we'll make them move if they want to shout a warning.

I say we do this:

1. I cast Bless (1 min/level)
2. I cast Protection from Evil (1 min/level) on someone who wants it. At the same time, Merlin casts Enlarge Person on Uriel
3. Everyone holds until after I act in initiative, I cast Silence on the door, and then you all start beating the crap out of it. (Looks like 2-4 people can contribute to this effort since it's double-doors).

Silence will last 3 rounds. I suspect we'll break the door in 2 - 3 rounds. Leaving:

4. Rush in and pound the first demon or tiefling we see.

Additionally, just as a formatting feature, would you prefer that I put all my rolls under spoilers? Is it easier to read the turn summaries that way?

Azura, I believe Merlin moved into the corner last round.

If he didn't move the token, he didn't move.

He's not competing with anyone for the space; moving or not moving isn't going to stop any of the tieflings from completing their actions.
