Baldwin- How do you feel about retraining rules? Just curious.
I'm glad everyone else has found the Handy Haversack- I just finished organizing mine!
I put sections for each pocket with their respective weight capacities. Dunno if anyone else is OCD about stuff like that, but I'm a sucker for random minor details.
Oh I made sure those side packets were not over capacity too. I can't help it. I found a small tent fits perfectly in a side pouch, it's 20lbs.

Retraining rarely comes up in the games that I run - either table top or PbP - I'm pretty liberal at letting the players tinker with their builds. If they took a feat or skill and don't really use it for instance, that stuff is typically hand-waved (or done in the background). Most of my games don't have many consecutive days of downtown, the downtime there is usually involves intensive roleplay between characters and NPCs. For instance, if there is a romantic interest that tends to happen in the downtown. I'm open to retraining idea, if it becomes necessary, but it's unlikely that I will stop the flow of the game for one player to do significant alterations.
Note: there is one part of this campaign that is time oriented so that could kink any retraining.
Is there something you specific you have in mind?

REMINDER THAT RECRUITMENT CLOSES WEDNESDAY, JULY 9TH, AT 10:00 PM
I have had a lot of interest in this game, I'm going to shorten the recruitment time to Wednesday, July 9th, at 10:00 pm. This should provide anyone interested in this game an opportunity to complete their characters. If you are just catching up from the holiday weekend don't panic there is time to build and submit a character.

Is your character ready for review?

Is there something you specific you have in mind?
As a bard gains versatile performance, the performance skill bonus starts to cover other skills, which makes the skill ranks put into the overrided a waste. Of course, if you don't have any ranks in certain skills before you pick up your 2nd or 3rd versatile performance, you might get killed because of it.
Let's say I put a rank in sense motive at 4th level, and then at level 6 picked up versatile performance for sing, which would let my perform: sing cover sense motive. At that point I would like to retrain the rank of sense motive into something else so the skill point is not wasted.
Part of me feels like this is getting my cake and eating it too, though.
Is your character ready for review?
Almost. The crunch is done, and I have notes for a backstory. I said I would be finished yesterday, but I was delayed, my apologies. I will turn my notes into a brief background tonight and if selected I will spend some time fleshing it out.
Astrianna Sparacello
This is Galorit, the crunch is complete and contains a breakdown of everything but the gold expenditure (which was done in a program anyway).
I welcome any feedback, I have never made a bard before. I have to say it was a lot of fun though.
Backstory will be smoothed out and changed from an incomprehensible stream of conciousness tonight.

Baldwin, because of the aforementioned problem I am, most regrettably, withdrawing interest. I wish you a great campaign!
Best of luck to all the rest of you! Baldwin's got some hard decisions to make in selection, I can say that much! :)

This is the beginning of sixteenbiticon's submission.
With Paizo being down all day I've been doing what I can in Hero Lab, but I still have much work ahead of me. Here is what I have so far if you wanted to take a look.
Edit: Keep in mind this is just a quick copy and paste from Hero Lab. I still have quite a bit of formatting and editing to do. Not to mention gear and background.

The Rules Again:
Core Races
Cat Folk
Changeling
Goblins
Kitsune
alchemist, gunslinger, and summoner. Note: guns and black powder may be introduced later in the game. If it is introduced then it is going to be a new invention that the players will come across. There will be some DM boons at that time.
CRB, APG, UE, UM, UC, Shackles material. As DM I will use the RC books that I own, and I also will use a lot of 3PP material, especially from Raging Swann, Rite Publishing, and Frog God Games.
There are parts of permitted books that I do not use including but not limited to: Word of Power and Spell Duels, so it’s best to double check with the DM.
I do not permit ARG (except for the non-core races that I’ve permitted).
No ACG.
I’m not going to use the RC players guide for two reasons: 1. I don’t own it, and 2. I don’t want the players to have to buy the book. That being said if you own the book and want to use something from the book in your character build feel free to PM me with the details for consideration.
Eastern equipment doesn’t really fit this adventure, so think twice if you design an eastern themed character, gear will be hard to come by and wickedly expensive.
Point Buy 20, plus your 4th level Stat bonus
No score below a 10, before racial adjustment.
Traits: 1 trait from the APG and 1 trait from Skull & Shackles
Everyone’s base begins: 1 level of either aristocrat, expert or warrior. Consider this your pre-adventuring life. This is a way to give players a small HD, skill, and save bonus. You begin with 1 NPC level and 4 Class levels.
Starting wealth: 6,000 gp. You can have no more than 2,500 GP in any one item.
Alignment: No real alignment restrictions, except you must work well together. I’m obviously not going to have LG and CE players in the same group. Depending on the party selection, I may ask a player to change their alignment to ensure party cooperation.
Hit Points: Max HP’s for your NPC level and class level one, thereafter you roll HPs. Reroll 1’s.
Ability scores and Skills: Explain how you arrive at your ability scores and skill totals. This makes it easy for me, so I do not have to deconstructive builds.
Item Creation: Scrolls and potions should be fine in down time but I doubt there will be enough time and suitable location to craft other items. I try to run a balanced game but unfortunately the balance tips when characters create their and their party members ultimate gear for a fraction of the cost.
Second Wind: Every character gets the innate ability to heal themselves 1d4+1 HP, 2/day, as a standard action.
Develop a brief description/background: I know many players spend a lot of time creating their background, and as a DM I respect that, and try to incorporate some (not all) links into the game. However, what matters more to me as a DM is your posting history. I do read game threads and I will see if there a history of vanishing from games. That being said, if you are new to PBP I do encourage you to submit a character – I was new once too. I have been known to choose one relatively inexperienced player per game, as I feel this helps to pay it forward.
Adult Themed: This will be adult themed, but well within Paizo's PBP standards. When in doubt put it behind a spoiler.
I’m looking for players that can work together and post more than a simple line, or two, of dice stats – descriptive actions will make it enjoyable to read. I try to be descriptive in my posting.
1. I do not retcon actions. I keep a brisk game pace. It becomes problematic for me to redo actions and consequences. Sorry.
2. A natural "1" on an attack roll is a possible fumble. The player makes a DC10 DEX check, including any ability modifier in the roll. A number below a 10 means you have either dropped your melee weapon or snapped your bow/crossbow string or your thrown weapon was dropped.
3. Roll HPs each level, reroll 1’s.
4. I will occasionally dip into the sanity/madness rules if the situation arises.
5. Just because something appears in a book does not make it automatically available for game play.
6. I will occasionally make an error in a rule interpretation. If that happens, cite the rule link for reconsideration. I will often, but not always, adjust the results. Just because something is arguably RAW does not make it automatically acceptable in this game. Please do not be a rules lawyer and argue every point that gets tedious.
There may be others, GM reserves right to amend.
I’m an attentive DM and I post a boatload. This game will be quick paced, probably quicker than most PBP players are use to, my games consistently average 20 to 40 (or more) posts a day. I would like to see 2 posts out of the players. I understand that this can and will fluctuate with real life, but you can see from my previous games that I am a consistent and reliable poster.
I understand real life happens but warn us if you cannot post for a while. It is frustrating when someone drops off the boards without a notice. Communication is key and it’s simple courtesy.
I'm not a big fan of mega-game breaking builds, just because it’s arguably RAW doesn’t make it acceptable in my game. Power-gaming and cookie cutter builds lifted from some forum’s post or guide are frowned upon. I’m not looking for perfect builds but rather well balance characters.
A word of thanks to STR Ranger for his compliment on my DM style. If anyone has ever gamed with him, you know he comes up with incredible builds, but what makes STR Ranger different is he is an excellent roleplayer, who does not let his powerful builds overwhelm the story and other players.

Good times!
Question - given the fact that "Zayne" has chose this Avatar as well, would choosing a new Avatar at this time make things easier? If so, please let me know. Thanks :)
baldwin the merciful
You have Male Human (Taldan) Aristocrat 1/Rogue (Swashbuckler) L3 on your character sheet but you are missing a class level. You should get 1 NPC level and 4 Class levels.
FYI form an previous question:
The NPC does not count for anything but HD, class skills, skill point totals, saves and BAB. It does not count towards feat or when ability stat bonuses apply.
It's simply giving a little character boost showing that you had a life before focusing your attention on your adventuring class.
I see you DM several games and play in a few, which is the most active game that you are in as either a DM or player? I ask because my games move at quick pace and it's easy for the post count to mount up.
baldwin the merciful
I see you are relatively new to the PbP and that's not really an issue and i usually try to bring someone on that does not have much PbP experience. Paying it forward. I was new to the board a little over two years ago. That being said, if you are selected are you going to be able to handle a fast paced game. It's easy for the post unread post counts to rack up in my games. I'm probably one of the more active DM's on the board.
How do you see this character developing?

So what motivates this character? Is it the excitement of gambling and being on the fringe of the law?

As I've mentioned previously in this thread, every single one of my pbp campaigns have ended in the GM disappearing at or around the first combat, so one of the main reasons I am very interested in your game is the fact that you are obviously a very reliable gm.
In terms of my posting ability, I am lucky to work at a job where I can post as much as needed during the day. The evening/nighttime is a bit harder since I am a new father and work an early shift. In terms of the weekends, I can usually post in the early morning since I wake up before the rest of my family.
In terms of Rata's development, I look forward to testing the bounds of his alignment as he hunts down the remaining crew members of the Wailing Gypsy of which I can develop, or you can, or we can collaborate on. I really like the idea of having a colorful cast of pirates to track down to exact my vengeance. I think this will mesh well with the planned non-linearity of your game. You can provide me all manner of leads and/or red herrings to persue. The potential for fun is definitely there. All the while with Kaliza at his side, of course.
Also, I wonder what his motivations will be once he discovers the fate of his father. Will he give up his vendetta, or see it through to the end to avenge Usha?
And, of course, I look forward to enriching his relationships with the rest of the party members (favorable or otherwise).
In terms of mechanics, STR Ranger has provided me with some help on that front. I would like to pursue a line of feats and/or abilities that will enable Rata to get the most out of his dual-wielding (ITWF, Two Weapon Rend, Dazing Assault, etc.) Also I want to strengthen the tactical bond between him and his companion (and some of the other members of the party) by taking some teamwork feats (outflank, paired opportunists, coordinated charge, etc.)
I also want to pursue the bounty hunter aspect a bit more, I will spend most of tomorrow ironing out the details of his background while trying to make some smart gear purchases. I already have the climber's kit, grappling arrows, and nets. I want to put some more thought into this.
Sorry for the long response. As you can tell this character has been on my mind a lot, and now that I have a cohesive concept, the juices are very much flowing.
Edit: Sorry, one more thing I forgot to mention is that I am a one game man, so if I get into this game, I will be in it and no other. That's another reason I haven't played in very many pbp campaigns.

David "Dirk" Hawkins
Oh, you're gonna hafta. Cause when I'm through with you you'll be naught but a fish floppn' on the floor.
David glances up at the response, but merely chuckles at the Shoanti's bluster.
"Aye... Welll, I reckon we'll just have to see how that plays out, then, chief," he says with a little grin as he pulls out a cheroot from his jacket and lights it with a wave of his hand.
Taking a long pull from it and exhaling a stream of smoke he nods amicably.
"For now I'm square with just waiting on the skipper to rustle up the crew straight; but if he's got us both pegged as shipmates then maybe that's a dance we'll end up doing later," he adds as he takes another leisurely pull from his cheroot.

which is the most active game that you are in as either a DM or player?
Well, I guess currently it's a tossup between;
The Worldwound Incursion - Game Master DireMercand
Shards of the Titanswar - Game Master EldonG
But neither one could hold a candle to the first week of The Seer's Journey - DM Downrightamazed.
We were doing something like 40 posts a day then.
Astrianna Sparacello
How many times a day do you post on average? I'm a graduate student and spend a lot of time on or near a computer- I can make a minimum of 5 or so detailed posts a day at least, unless I'm otherwise preoccupied (which I will tell you). My other campaign with DM Nerk usually involves 2 or more posts a day, but he is currently on vacation and we've lost some momentum.
You said you use maptools? Do we all connect to it, or do you update our actions and we see the display? I love maptools, but I was never able to get anyone to connect to it.
I have written a brief (uh.. relatively...) backstory for Astrianna, as well as outlining her appearance and personality. I plan to add more if selected, though I don't expect every character from her past to appear. I believe you can find the answer to your question in her personality, as she seeks a life outside the mundane and enjoys taking a mixture of calculated or wild risks for the high. Fringe of the law makes it all the easier.
