I just want you to know, I'm not cheating in any way, shape, or form.

Does Hudak get any bonuses for a natch 20 wil save?
If not, paralyzed 1 round, and str 14 for 3 rounds.

No worries - I don't know how you could cheat the dice-roller anyway.

So, everyone is paralysed for at least one round...

Yup, those of us with SLAs that matter have used them already. Alwyn could use one of his if he wanted, but I believe they're all buff-type things and thus unlikely to affect the demon's course of action.

Initiatives reprised and updated:
Hudak: 21
Camlo: 19 (paralysed for 10 minutes)
Elisile: 17
Illes: 7 (paralysed for 10 minutes)
Vethran: 7-
Hezrou: 6
Alwyn: 5

With all of its assailants paralysed, the demon waddles forward speedily and gives Hudak a tremendous shove.

OK, I'm calling this a Bull Rush - he's trying to push Hudak off the boat. Hudak's STR is reduced by the Blasphemy, and as he's paralysed he is helpless (DEX reduced to 0). The hezrou has charged. So versus Hudak's reduced CMD the hezrou's CMB is 1d20 + 19 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 19 + 2 = 24.

Now, looking at Hudak's character sheet, his CMB and CMD seem to be incorrect (or not updated lately, anyway). With a BAB of +8, and STR mod of +6 and a DEX mod of +2, that's a CMB of +14 and a CMD of 26. He's enlarged, which brings his CMD up by 2 (+1 for the STR add, and +1 for being Large) to 28. If we reduce his STR by 10 (-5 to CMD)and his DEX drops to 0 (-7) his CMD drops to 16. So the Bull Rush attempt exceeds his CMD by more than 5, Hudak is pushed 10' back and into the water (since he can't stay on the side of the boat without climbing).

Alwyn.

Map updated.

As the Shoanti falls like a toppled statue into the river, boggards in the water begin to swarm towards him.

If you’ll allow me to be a smart ass, you forgot the deflection bonus from Hudak’s ring of protection which adds to CMD (+1, bringing it to 17 effectively at the moment). I think common sense (and, you know, the rules) will force us to ignore the further +1 dodge bonus from haste. Unfortunately that +1 doesn’t save Hudak from taking a dip.

You are allowed, but don't make a habit of it. And go to bed.

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric 11

Hmmm... I'm not sure what to do here. I could go with Fates' suggestion of delaying a bit so he can enable me to unparalyse multiple party members over the net few turns; however, only two are paralysed, and I honestly don't know how much Camlo can contribute here. So it is tempting to just free up Illes and hit everyone with another wave of positive energy, so we can get the bardic bonuses back online and get me into combat next turn. Thoughts?

Male Human (Varisian) Wizard (Evoker) 9

It's your character, chief. Do what you want with him. If you don't want the channels for more remove paralysis spells, then you can sure as hell use them for cure serious wounds. :)

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric 11

How does it work? More level 2 spell slots?

Alwyn Agnarrson wrote:

I cast it on you, and on your next action you can cast any spell of 3rd-level or lower without losing the slot (as if you'd never cast it). Basically I hand you my spell slots. Alternatively, you could drop a holy smite on this b#%&# and blind it for a round, but that's 4th-level and can't be doubled-up with channel the gift.

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric 11

OK. I think that's the better option - otherwise it'll wipe out Camlo on its turn. We can channel gifts next turn. So:

Alwyn groggily recovers after the demon's foul utterance and counters with one of his own.

No movement; however, I'm standing up, which accounts for my move action. I then cast Holy smite centered on the demon; it may or may not affect the boy in the bubble as well. Damage vs the demon 8d6=32, vs the boggards (in case there are lurkers or half-dead ones around) 4d8=19. Both are blinded. Will DC 19 for half damage and no blindness. SR penetration check 14+8=22.

Hudak!

Male Human (Varisian) Wizard (Evoker) 9

Resilient sphere says that spell effects can't pass through the bubble pretty explicitly, so bubble-boy is safe, but he's locked down for 9 minutes anyway. I don't expect it'll be an issue. Now let's hope he fails that save!

male Human Shoanti Fighter 10 xp 80962

I guess I sink in the water, as I'm paralyzed.

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric 11

Nope - you get to act as the demon tossed you in during the everybody-is-paralysed round.

male Human Shoanti Fighter 10 xp 80962

Sheathe my bastard sword; climb as far up the side of the crate as I can then.

Climbing normal speed,
1d20 + 14 ⇒ (8) + 14 = 22

mn 12-13 is my targeted destination.

OK, sheathing sword is an action, leaving one action for climbing. Climb speed is 1/4 normal, but you are Hasted which gives you a move rate of 60 and therefore a climb speed of 15. That gets you to M-N/11-12. You also provoke an AoO as you climb and are counted as flat-footed.

Hezrou AoO: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (7) + 17 = 24, damage 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15

With his supernaturally enhanced speed, Hudak is back on deck in a trice, albeit wounded from an opportunistic attack from the hezrou.

Camlo's not doing much, so Elisile.

male Human Shoanti Fighter 10 xp 80962

I'll take that over being swarmed by boggards in their natural element.

Elisile pulls out a scroll and attempts to cast black tentacles centred on the R-S-11-12 intersection. Caster level check 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14 vs DC 8.

Spell CMB check: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (5) + 12 = 17. Damge (if applicable): 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9. Note SR does not apply.

Elisile then takes a 5 foot step to J9.

By the way, did Elisile’s telekinetic fist or more importantly Alwyn’s holy smite seem to have any effect on the hezrou? Want to know if we are getting through its spell resistance.

Male Human (Varisian) Wizard (Evoker) 9

Vethran manages to shake off the momentary paralysis, but his limbs still ache with fatigue. He manages to move across the deck towards Alwyn, however, and intones a spell that he bestows upon the cleric.

"It's resistant to most of my magic, do what you can with that!"

Move to K8 and cast channel the gift on Alwyn. His next spell of 3rd-level or less is not expended when cast on his next turn.

Oh, that's a good point, the hezrou never saved against Alwyn's smite. If he fails, he'll be blinded for 1 round, which means he can't take that AoO on Hudak (unless it has blindsense).

Just dottin the thread, dont mind me. On page 58 and climbing :D You guys are awesome.

Woohoo!!!

Will save: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21

Saved for half damage.

Pounded by the power of the spells from Alwyn and Elisile, the hezrou growls. And vanishes.

End of combat - for the moment.

Male Human (Varisian) Wizard (Evoker) 9

"Make preparations while you can, friends! Those fiends are capable of flitting about Golarion as you've seen me jaunt across this deck... but at much greater distances and as often as they wish. He may return in a moment with reinforcements... or he may hunt us for decades. Best to prepare for the former. Demons are not known for their patience."

I'm assuming that the 38 I got on the Kn: Planes check earlier gives me this info.

"Alwyn, if you can return Camlo and Illes to their senses, I've another spell to help you retain your power."

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric 11

Alwyn nods at Vethran. "Let's not waste any time, then. And stay together, in case the demon returns unexpectedly."

Are we still on turns? If so, I spend two turns using Vethran's spells to reanimate Illes and Camlo before starting to heal all and sundry.

Male Halfling Rogue/11 AC:26 HP: 92{92}

As soon as he's animate Camlo runs across the deck, weapons clattering behind him, and dives headlong into an empty barrel, which wobbles precariously.

After a few moments, his head peeps over the top, as he looks surreptitiously for the daemon. "is it gone? W-w-will it s-stay gone?" he stammers.

hp 87 of 87; effects active: mage armour (AC 22); gravity bow, flame arrow Female Elf Wizard (Transmuter) 6 / Ranger 1 / Eldritch Knight 4

Elisile retrieves her bow and keeps it trained on the boggard in the resilient sphere. “Get ready to destroy this one when Vethren’s spell expires Hudak,” she says. "But stay clear for now, lest those black tentacles try to grab you."

“Someone should check if any of the crew have survived below decks.” She glances down sadly at the corpses of those few crew-members who stayed above, either cut down by boggard’s or felled by the hezrou’s blasphemous utterance.

The boggards continue to mill about on the southern shore, their baying croaks echoing in the night. A few begin gathering wood and starting bonfires, but none attempt an attack for the moment. The hezrou is nowhere to be seen.

A few of the crew emerge from from where they had hidden below decks, including the captain. "What did the demon say that upset everyone so much?" asks Murchins. "I heard it, didn't sound so bad. Y'know, sticks and stones?"

hp 87 of 87; effects active: mage armour (AC 22); gravity bow, flame arrow Female Elf Wizard (Transmuter) 6 / Ranger 1 / Eldritch Knight 4

Evil!

The captain casually pulls the wings off a fly while speaking.

Male Human (Varisian) Wizard (Evoker) 9

Are we just assuming that, at some point, we formed a lynching circle around the resilient sphere, Vethran dispelled it, and what happens next is unsuitable for a family show? The bubble lasts 9 minutes, so we could've easily been healed up and rarin' to go by then. :)

I vote yes. Camlo will watch from the barrel.

Events may intervene with that plan.

Too bad he wasn't topside to see how he liked what Alwyn had to say then. I suspect he'd have liked it a lot less.

As the fires burn higher, the boggards begin to fire fire arrows at the boat. They are unskilled and most of their shots fall short, but a few land on the boat. The remaining crew scurry to put them out, but more and more fall as the frogmen try to set the boat ablaze.

Male Human (Varisian) Wizard (Evoker) 9

Vethran centers himself on the deck and, with a dramatic spray of color, erects a massive shimmering bubble around the bulk of the ship.

Tiny hut centered at the middle of the ship (call it N-O/10-11). 20' radius (40' diameter) dark blue bubble grants total concealment to everyone inside it, though missiles and creatures can still pass freely through it. Anyone INSIDE the bubble can see outside with no problem. This spell lasts for 18 hours. I think it'll hold out for the night.

"This should make their shots a little more difficult to land on us, though it offers little protection to the boat itself!"

After erecting the sphere, Vethran looses the wand on his belt and begins retaliating at the archers.

Wand of magic missile. Range: 130 ft. Damage: 2d4+2. Vethran just starts sniping. It has 43 charges.

"And someone deal with the boggard in my bubble! Let me know when you're ready and I'll dismiss the enchantment."

male Human Shoanti Fighter 10 xp 80962

"Batter up!"
Hudak'll move over to there.

male Human Shoanti Fighter 10 xp 80962

Hudak to OP 10-11 when he can;

pow atk
1d20 + 21 ⇒ (18) + 21 = 39

damage
2d8 + 29 ⇒ (5, 1) + 29 = 35

male Human Shoanti Fighter 10 xp 80962

confirm crit
1d20 + 21 ⇒ (10) + 21 = 31

damage
2d8 + 29 ⇒ (6, 8) + 29 = 43

oooooh! Damn. Bet that hurt.

hp 87 of 87; effects active: mage armour (AC 22); gravity bow, flame arrow Female Elf Wizard (Transmuter) 6 / Ranger 1 / Eldritch Knight 4

Elisile dismisses the black tentacles spell before Veth dismisses his resilient sphere and Hudak moves over there.

I AM THE LORD OF ALL HELLFIRE!!!!!

That'll help.

Not many of the boggards are any good with bows, and Vethran's unerring missiles soon kill or drive them off (scratch ten charges from the wand). The fire arrows stop falling and the boggards on the shore seem at a loss as to what to do, milling about aimlessly.

Meanwhile, Hudak executes the remaining boggard when its magical prison fails.

Any effects measures in minutes or rounds have failed by this point.

Aubrey the Demented/Malformed wrote:

Mage armor, protection from arrows, and tiny hut still active for Vethran then.

"We seem to have driven then back for now. Someone should investigate what we've run aground on and get this thing moving again before the demon returns. They cannot see us inside my barrier, so any actions we take within it should be clandestine enough. I cannot leave the confines, however, or the spell is dismissed."

hp 87 of 87; effects active: mage armour (AC 22); gravity bow, flame arrow Female Elf Wizard (Transmuter) 6 / Ranger 1 / Eldritch Knight 4

Elisile has by now returned to her elven form. “Hudak, climb down towards the front of the boat with me,” she says. “We shall try to see what we are stuck on.”

She climbs down the leaning side of the boat, near the front. With lights behind her on the deck, her elven gaze attempts to pierce the water and dark to see what they are lodged on.

Climb: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21, Perception: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (8) + 14 = 22

male Human Shoanti Fighter 10 xp 80962

"Okay...."

climbing
1d20 + 14 ⇒ (14) + 14 = 28

perception
1d20 ⇒ 18

heck, maybe I'll crit the perception.

In the dark it is difficult to see, even with enhanced elven vision. Someone will need to go in to the water to see what is snagging the Otter.

Male Human (Varisian) Wizard (Evoker) 9

Vethran volunteers his everburning torch to whoever is feeling adventurous, but is certainly not going down there himself.

"I can also cause an article of clothing or a brooch to shed light if you wish it, though only one such item at a time."

hp 87 of 87; effects active: mage armour (AC 22); gravity bow, flame arrow Female Elf Wizard (Transmuter) 6 / Ranger 1 / Eldritch Knight 4

“I shall go in if needs be; but before that, Vethran, will you cast your light spell on a piece of debris and drop it into the water here? It may illuminate something under the surface enough for us to see what is in there.”

Male Human (Varisian) Wizard (Evoker) 9

Vethran smirks and illuminates one of the arrows that has landed on the deck, tossing it into the water to serve as a light source. He is careful to remain within the boundary of his evocation as he does so, however.
