Game Master Killer Pixie

The year is 1473 on Earth. The age of the printed book has just begun, as the Ottomans dwarves, led by Mehmet II, conquer Eastern Europe and Turkey, and Leonardo da Vinci works on his first drawings.

The long walk down the stairs begins.

Lucius:
When you have taken a few steps down, you starts seeing something in the room at the bottom, first, they are less than shadows, but you quickly distinguish humanoid figures, at least two. You believe you are hearing a very low, indistinguishable, whispering.

Lucius thrusts his arm out, halting any further progress down the stairs. Turning to Gul he makes a firm 'stay' gesture and waits to see his order obeyed before placing his finger on his lips and then goes slowly down the steps, trying to pick out the sounds ahead of him.

Lucius:
You take a few steps down and you can see them clearly. Three creatures, similar to the corpse you found, are walking up the stairs, pointing at your group. When they see you better, they start sprinting up the stairs, shouting something incomprehensible at you. Their straight swords are rised, and they wear scaled chestplates.

You start hearing voices, and your torch soon iluminates three creatures, apparently of the same race as the corpse. They wear scaled metal armor, and they are running towards Lucius with their swords unseathed.

Lucius, no fool, hurries back up the stairs, choosing to trust in his companions skill at arms to protect him rather than faith alone. As he does so his form blurs and two Lucius's begin moving in tandem.

Retreat up the stairs and activate copycat (domain power).

The creatures are apparently led by a warrior with a shield. His ears are very long, and his skin is pitch black. The two at his sides, with skin blue and purple, turn their swords at the same time, showing they are also warhammers at the other side of the hilt.

Misimba's turn!

Seeing the creatures rushing his group, Misimba twirls his sling-staff and releases an iron ball at the purple skinned beast.

Lucius stumbles backwards up the stairs, cursing fluently in latin. Before he moves however his eyes turn black and a wave of energy flies from his head, passing through the oncoming drow with an unpleasant crackling sound.

Channel Negative Energy if I can hit them and not us, then retreat up the stairs. If I cant channel then just retreat.

Channel (DC13 Will to halve): 1d6 ⇒ 5

Added 10 bullets for Misimba.

The ball dissapears in the distance, and, almost a second later, you see the purple skinned creature jumping to a side, crashing against wall while trying to avoid the shot. Your aim was perfect.

The warrior in the middle grabs a small object hanging from his neck with the left hand, and he touches his forehead, his chest, and both shoulders with the right one, as he recites in Latin. "In nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti. Amen." and he runs up, pointing at you and cheering his companions.

Elven Tongues Speakers:
In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Knowledge (Religion) DC 15 and Perception DC 21 (For Lucius, Michel and Misimba) or 22 (For the others):
You realize that this creature has used the catholic version of this blessing, with his whole hand, instead of the three fingers usually used by the Bizantines.

The creature reaches Lucius, who is already near his companions, and confronts him.

Lucius, you're already almost at the level of the others, so no need to retreat. It's your turn!

Misimba does not have know: religion....so should he just roll perception?

Gül, startled, fires her crossbow into the darkness, hoping to hit the warrior in the middle.
crossbow attack: 1d20 ⇒ 2
crossbow damage: 1d10 ⇒ 7

Seeing how close the enemies are, she then decides to get ready for melee.

standard action: attack with crossbow
move action: put crossbow away
if she's more than 5 feet away from Michel, she'll also 5-foot step closer

@Misimba you can't make a knowledge check above DC10 without skill points, so I'd guess so...unless a perception check by itself does nothing

This is probably going to get him stabbed but he missed the Catholic bit so his appeal has to be more generic...

That is what I was not sure about...if the perception roll by itself had any meaning

As Michel hits the leader in the face with the Sansetsukon, and Gül's bolt hits only the wall, Lucius is interrupted by the blue skinned foe, who swings the sword-hammer at him. The priest manages to jump back moments before.

"We will not aid, you barbarians! The child is an abomination!" the purple warrior shouts with anger.

Everyone sees the warrior crossing himself, but you need to pass both checks to see the spoiler.

Ognos fires a Ray of Frost at the nearest foe:

Bull Rush: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17

The little demonic horn on Lucius' head can see Ognos raising his left hand and saying some strange words, as a line of ice sprouts from his left pinky, making flitter his torch and flying towards the priest and the warrior he is fighting with. Unfortunately, it is hard for Ognos to hit his enemy and not his companion, and the magic ray misses both, freezing a large part of the wall and nothing else.

"Should we help?" There is fright in Abel and Octavia's faces, but she has her dagger readied in her hand, and they seem willing to fight.

At the other side of the stairs, the plue creature is already supporting the other two and, grabbing his weapon by the blade of the sword and the head of the hammer, attempts to push Michel back with the hilt, but the At'a'Jutsu artist grabs the handle and pushes back, making his foe stumble against the wall.

Latin (Elven):
"You will die, savage scum!" He ignores Michel, who is also busy with the other two creatures, and looks at Misimba, the slinger, showing his yellowish teeth.

"You can try monster, but you will not succeed!", the halfling calls back and fires another bullet from his slingstaff.

Gül begins chanting something strange.

Could you please define the effect in mechanical terms? Lucius has darkvision so he might well be able to see, but not if it's magical darkness. We need a bit more in the way of specifics here! Please! :) Don't leave us lost in the dark...

it's magical darkness that absorbs normal light, so for example torches don't give light in the affected area nor can you see torches on one side of the area from the opposite side, but the darkness isn't supernaturally dark ala deeper darkness (darkvision works fine as long as the area isn't supernaturally dark)
Also: see discussion thread XD

What she said. You're right, though. I'll be more descriptive with that kind of things from now on.

Misimba cannot see anything, so slowly begins to back away from the last place he say the enemy.

One second Michel was cracking skulls, the next he was virtually blind.

He calls out to the elves, "The darkness cannot protect you, villains. The light of God will always prevail."

Despite his declaration, he makes no move against them, instead standing absurdly still with his eyes shut.

Ready an action to attack the next creature who attacks me in melee. I should be able to pinpoint their square that way right?

Lucius, still able to see through the darkness, realises he has very little he can do and retreats up the stairs calling as he does so. "Brother Michel, there is one a few paces in front of you, slightly to your left." Adjust directions as accurate since I'm not quite sure where they are!

Pass rest of actions

It's okay, real life happens, just make sure to tell me if you're taking a long time off so someone bots you if that's okay for you.

High is hit and low is miss from now on, fair enough, but there's really no way you could know you're about to be attacked if you're blinded, so I suggest we make the readied attack happen after the triggering condition and not before as usual. It kinda makes sense. Okay?

Attack Roll: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Damage: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (5, 5) + 7 = 17

If you can see:
Lucius succesfully retreats, but instantly realizes he left a gap in one side of the stairs. The blue and purple elves advance, unstoppable by Michel (since he can't see), and wildly swing their hammers. Ognos is hit in his temple and Gül in the knees first, to make her fall, and then in the face, when she is at the blue elf's height. Both collapse.

Ognos:
You hear steps coming towards you. First, you can hear is Lucius, who passes close to you, but there is someone else. You feel an intense pain in the head and black out.

Attack Roll: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Damage: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (5, 5) + 7 = 17

Attack Roll: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Damage: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (3, 3) + 7 = 13

If you can see:
It's even easier for the purple warrior. He puts down Misimba and Michel with one swing, though this last one manages to stumble and weakly attack with the sansetsukon, which his enemy easily diverts with his hand.

Misimba:
You can't see anything, so the hit comes suddenly and your little body flies back, everything going even blacker than before.

Michel:
At'a'Jutsu masters are always aware of their surroundings with all their senses, but, in this case, it's not enough to avoid being hit in your belly. You manage to stumble and weakly attack with the sansetsukon, but it is diverted, and you fall in the hard cold ground, hitting your head and vomiting, before blacking out.

Lucius:
The leader, who has stayed back while your companions where being defeated, steps ahead, and puts the blade of his sword downwards, above the fallen Michel. "Stop the beasts now. Leave. Or your friends will die", he says in Latin.

Male Half-Orc Sorcerer (inactive)

Killer Pixie:
Was that nonlethal damage?

Ognos:
Not really, but I think it's under control. You'll be okay, if Lucius makes good choices and you don't get terribly unlucky.

"I swear to you, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ and his representative, Pope Sixtus IV that I have no knowledge of these beasts which you speak of. My companions and I ventured here in search of a missing child. May the Lord above strike me down if I lie."

"Then, our church is corrupted. If you are not controlling the beasts, there is no reason we should keep your friends alive, monster." The elf rises his sword, ready to strike down Michel, but a shout in an unknown language comes from behind him. He looks back and doubts for a second, before running back down the stairs. The other warriors follow him, ignoring Abel, Lucius and Octavia, who are frozen in fear.

He then rises and checks the others, trying to establish if anyone is in immediate danger and provide care if needed.

When Michel wakes up Lucius explains shortly. "Someone called them off and they fled. We need to get the others to safety, I can heal somone else but I need time to pray first." He snaps at Octavia and Abel to help Michel with the bodies and begins organising the retreat.

I think the best place to retreat to is back up the rope. Then I can take 15 minutes to pray and fix someone else up. Obviously if someone looks like dying they get the Infernal Healing instead of Michel - I went for the strongest PC for heavy lifting :D

Male Half-Orc Sorcerer (inactive)

I'll take the 16 HP heal, I guess. Since I probably have the lowest HP as a matter of course.

Ognos wakes up feeling quite groggy.
But thankful he's still alive and follows along with leaving the cave.

the 3 heal checks are probably vs dc15 to stabilize us (we're no longer losing HP, but we're not awake either, it isn't a number of bonus HP...)

Male Half-Orc Sorcerer (inactive)

Sorry! My bad!
Totally confused those with cure spells.
Wishful thinking!

That would mean Ognos stable at -10 HP.
I think.
Just 2 HP from pushing up the daisies!

Duma is growling above, looking at you.

Lucius runs ahead to Michel and takes an eyedropper of a red liquid out of his pouch, letting a drop fall in Michel's ear and waiting for him to wake up as he goes to Ognos, Gül and Misimba, stabilizing the heads of the first two and making them lay straight.

"Will they be fine?" asks Abel. Ognos is bleeding a bit and Gül's nose is broken, but they will be indeed fine. Michel starts to move.

"What did you gave to him? To Michel?" inquires his wife.

Michel:
You are in the streets of a city, with no memory of how you got there, but your master, Klah Nakai, is at your side. Two men are walking towards you on the sidewalk, heatedly arguing. Suddenly, on of them stops and punchs the other in the face. You see Klah Nakai laughing histerically and, suddenly, you're on the stairs, deep into Otlukbeli's ground again. You don't feel any pain, but something weird, something evil.

Before Michel stands, you feel a strong invisible push coming from down the stairs, and the sound of an explosion. You can see a ball of fire in the room downstairs, before it is covered and the place goes dark again, except for the torch in the floor, that is once again sheding a weak light.

Michel revives with a sputter and a start, turning to his side to cough up some phlegm.
After the shock of his near death experience, the dark cave and thunderous explosion was quite welcome. Stumbling back to his feet, his head spun and he fought to keep the contents of his stomach. The nausea dissipates, but a different sense of unease remains.

"What did you give to me? I feel... strange." Michel asks as he finds the torchlight.

"What happened to those elves? And what in the- Lord's name was that loud noise?"

If there really is a beast down there then it either set that blast off or the blast was aimed at it. Either way we need to get out of here! I need information. Why is the church so weak out here?

As Michel and He strain to move the bodies Lucius asks over his shoulder to Octavia and Abel. "Where is the nearest christian church?"

About a minute after, Ognos is mostly cured.
Sort of conscious (at 0 HP), but in much better shape than he was.

"I... What was that?" Abel looks around, confused, while Lucius is praying.

"The church..."Octavia can't finish what she is saying and falls to her knees, sobbing. "Azad! Was he... down there?" Abel gasps and looks at Michel, waiting for an answer.

Ognos:
You are in a road in the field. You can't remember how you got there, but Prelett is at your side, smiling and holding your hand. A wagon, drawn by two white horses, is quickly approaching, but there is a sawed trunk in the middle of the road. Before you can do anything, the horses trip on the log and the carriage tips over. The driver is in front of you, bleeding and not moving. Prelett laughs histerically, and you wake up on the stairs. There is no pain anywhere, but something worse, a feeling of pure evil.

Male Half-Orc Sorcerer (inactive)

Ognos suddenly wakes with a jolt and starts babbling:

"AGH! I was being tormented by Prelett!"
"We're surrounded by relentless evil down here."

Then he blinks a few times.

"Hmph! Ironic that a warning of evil would come
to me from that thieving strumpet back in Pest!"

Lucius approaches Ognos and helps him stand up.

"I am sorry, Octavia. We will go back here soon, with help. Maybe we can find Abel, he could be fine."

"No!" Octavia shakes her head and starts running down the stairs.

"Wait!" shouts Abel, and follows her.

Still feeling groggy, and more than a little, Ognos asks:

"That's not good! Can they see in the dark? I can't."
