Pressing on the group begins to look for somewhere to camp for the night. Eventually they find a flat area relatively clear of brush and trees. While setting up camp and gathering firewood 1d5 ⇒ 1 Kievan comes across some more remains several meters outside the clearing. This time they are those of half a dozen mostly devoured sheep.

Survival DC 12:
More wolf tracks near the remains. These are much fresher than the last ones. It appears that these are the tracks of a whole pack.

Knowledge Nature DC 10 (Can take 10 if trained):
These are the hill sheep that are occasionally herded by the poorer of the inhabitants of Gesh. Those are wolf tracks.

Heal DC 15:
These sheep were killed within the past few days, by multiple predators that kill using teeth.

As he examined the corpses, he casually snapped a bloody sheep fibula with his heel. The bird returned, descending in a small gust. It chose one of the choicer chunks and swallowed it down.

Onyx dismounts and starts to groom her horse, then looking at the man of the wilds she asks.

"well how do we do this camp thing? I have not done this before and with wild animals here aborts you say, what should we do do you think, to be as safe as we can be?"

Kievan doesn't have a horse, and can make all of those DC's by taking 10, as well.

"Be wary, all, and nobody leave the clearing after dark. The wolves may still be near, as this is obviously their hunting ground. We will also keep watch in shifts."

Kievan orders Vigi to guard and defend the area, then does what he can to set up a defensible camp.


So two horses and a dinosaur still need added to the map. Doing that now. What order for the watches?

Everyone except Octavian and Onyx are sleeping. If you're sleeping and normally wear medium or heavy armor, you don't have it on currently. Right now only Onyx and Soruss are aware that the wolves are approaching. The fire is casting dim light (20% miss chance without darkvision) out to the yellow ring, anything past that is dark. Trees have trunks in them (the brown circles) only those squares are impassable. The greenery without trunks is bushes, meaning difficult terrain. The rocks and fallen tree trunks are also difficult terrain. The wolves are approaching from upwind, so scent is limited to 15'.

Octavian glances about and seeing the falconer alone and surrounded drops his bow and moves to aid him drawing his sword as he does and swings his sword but misses due to the gloom.

Onyx steps back and focuses her gaze on one of the wolves nearest her (#8), and a spurt of blood comes shooting out of its snout as it yelps in pain.

Kievan steps back and casts a spell on his cudgel, while Vigi attacks the wolf on him. The two similarly sized animals match off, and only one of the dinosaur's claws manages to dig into the mammal. Red blood begins to flow from a scratch in the wolf's haunch.

In armor as DR rules, you don't need to roll to confirm crits. He has to make a critical defense roll and beat your attack roll. Also you forgot the miss chance.

Octavian moves to assist the surrounded Rastavar, bringing his long blade to bear on one of the wolves. He scores a long inch deep slice along its side.

Initiative 9

Rastavar calls his hawk down to buffet the wolf which rears up to snap at the bird, leaving his belly exposed to the hunter's long blade which he plunges hilt deep into the beast's belly. The wolf lets out a terrible yelp as its life blood flows in a great gout onto the dirt.

It's staggered and shaken. Looks to be barely alive.

The wolves step in and attack, howling and snapping their teeth. Except for the one that Rastavar hit, which withdraws, its tail between its legs.

The way I read shillelagh, the weapon is treated as +1, so would bypass the wolf's DR?

So, just to confirm - Vigi's got 6 DR, so the first wolf won't have hurt him at all. The second wolf got a critical hit (you rolled the critical defense roll for Vigi, though at a +8 instead of a +9?), so Vigi took 4 damage from that?

Vigi moves to a more defensible position, then attacks the damaged wolf (assuming it's still alive).
