I think I found the twin's theme song?
Oh We're Not Gonna Take It
no, We Ain't Gonna Take It
oh We're Not Gonna Take It Anymore
we've Got The Right To Choose And
there Ain't No Way We'll Lose It
this Is Our Life, This Is Our Song
we'll Fight The Powers That Be Just
don't Pick Our Destiny 'cause
you Don't Know Us, You Don't Belong
oh We're Not Gonna Take It
no, We Ain't Gonna Take It
oh We're Not Gonna Take It Anymore
oh You're So Condescending
your Gall Is Never Ending
we Don't Want Nothin', Not A Thing From You
your Life Is Trite And Jaded
boring And Confiscated
if That's Your Best, Your Best Won't Do

Tanjvats |

Tanjvats would be staying at the lodge, if that's available (uncomfortably waiting for the next mission). If not, he'd be in the closet inn possible where he can have a private room.
Last bit of record-keeping: You said we could have 1 rank in a Craft or PRofession skill of our choice, right? I was going to take Profession (Scribe) to mesh with my back-story (and to use my Scribe Scroll feat).
If that's not the case, I've got a skill rank to move before we start!
Assuming that's the case:
Profession (scribe) to scribe scroll of cure light wounds: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Profession (scribe) to scribe scroll of Comprehend Languages: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15

The game is live, not quite much to go off yet beyond when and how you react. You guys won't run into one another until my second post.

4d6 - 1 ⇒ (4, 5, 1, 4) - 1 = 13
4d6 - 2 ⇒ (3, 2, 2, 4) - 2 = 9
4d6 - 1 ⇒ (3, 2, 6, 1) - 1 = 11
4d6 - 2 ⇒ (4, 2, 6, 3) - 2 = 13
4d6 - 2 ⇒ (3, 3, 3, 2) - 2 = 9
4d6 - 1 ⇒ (1, 6, 2, 1) - 1 = 9
+2 point modifier... Rerolling!
4d6 - 1 ⇒ (6, 6, 6, 1) - 1 = 18
4d6 - 1 ⇒ (6, 6, 4, 1) - 1 = 16
4d6 - 1 ⇒ (1, 2, 4, 1) - 1 = 7
4d6 - 2 ⇒ (3, 4, 2, 5) - 2 = 12
4d6 - 1 ⇒ (6, 1, 1, 6) - 1 = 13
4d6 - 1 ⇒ (2, 5, 1, 1) - 1 = 8
+6 Modifier.
4d6 - 2 ⇒ (2, 4, 3, 2) - 2 = 9
"So everyone roll 1 more score and replace your lowest if it is higher than it."... Replacing the 7
Character/class wise... I'm thinking something Tankyish. Most likely a fighter variant of some kind.

Isn't it a spellcraft check for magic items?
Each type of magic item (arms & armor, scrolls, potions, etc) has a different set of skills that may be used. For scribe scroll they are:
SpellcraftCraft (calligraphy), or
Profession (Scribe)
I don't know how I'll do this as I advance. Spellcraft is a much better investment of a skill rank, and one needs to keep up with the rising caster levels of item creation.

Soooo, did everyone notice that I started the game thread?
I've been just holding back the flood waters in the rush of discussion, waiting until all was ready to start. I have all prepared, cautiously release the flood gates.... and a single tumbleweed rolls out. I'm not calling you a tumbleweed Shalafi (as he is the only one that posted).
Like seriously, look at the tabs at the top, and my last post here.... we're off, the game is afoot.

Dareon Niroden |

Where do you live in Magnimar? Do you stay at the lodge (do they require rent for extended stays, I have no idea)? Do you have your own place, or rent a place with your twin? If the Lodge wanted to get a hold of you, where would they send either a missive or a runner?
If you do stay at the lodge, I would imagine it works like a "do your part while you're here" arrangement. So if you stay there, what do you do to help out (and I don't mean not real work jobs 'I line up the books in the shelves')?
Dareon will live at Heidmarch Manor, as he hasn't exactly the money to live on his own yet. While at the manor, Dareon essentially does all of the Heidmarchs' finances for them, as he's shown a much greater propensity for bookwork than they have.
Also, I'm not gonna be terribly available over the next couple of days. I'm moving and I don't have great and reliable computer access. I'll try to post when I can.

FuriaRi0T Presents Gaileyon Madstout!
I'm not finished with the backstory... However I have the character pretty much built. I have a backstory 100% in mind - I just have to get to sleep for work tomorrow... I've already stayed up way to late as it is!
I'll add the rest tomorrow after the period of 'Playing Adult'.
Gimme any critique you may have - the more the better.

Well, I was originally going to make a Fighter of some kind. Then I found the Armored Hulk Archetype... HP and Armor. Match made in heaven.
Working on getting my back-story from my brain into a document. Should have it sometime within the next few hours!

You guys may recognize each other visually from around the lodge, but may not necessarily be familiar enough to know names. Though, for each of the spoile... Alabaster Outcasts, (Dareon, Fade and Elra) you could make a Knowledge (local or Nobility) DC 10 to know of them from their family's notoriety.
EDIT: as a DC 10 knowledge, it can be made untrained

Aardvark DM |

Not really a fan of Superman
Shalafi, if you preview the post you roll the knowledges in, you can post accordingly within the same post.

Aardvark DM |

I posted images of Sheila and Koriah in the Campaign tab for those of you that want a visual.

Faedrin Lantherion |

I enjoyed the film too. I thought Amy Adams did a really good job as Lois actually and that she showed a tenacity to get to the bottom of a story that was really missing in Superman Returns. Still, I think Erica Durance's take on the chacter in Smallville remains my favorite.
Michael Shannon's Zod was chilling. I really liked the intensity and gravity he brought to the role. It was a lot different from Terrance Stamp's portrayal of the character, and in the end I find myself liking Shannon's more.
This is the Superman movie I'd wanted Superman Returns to be. I would have loved to have seen Brandon Routh get a shot at the role with a script like this instead of the largely nostalgic and ineffective one he got back in '06. Not to take anything away from Cavill's performance, but I was a huge fan of Routh's take on the role.

![]() |

Well, Superman Returns was ACTUALLY a continuation of the Original movies. So he HAD to try to be Reeves. I actually really liked Brandon Routh as Superman. Ironically, Henry Cavill was passed up for the role with Superman Returns. He was told he was too young at the time.
I, also, was really thrilled with his performance. I liked Lois as well, personally. However I do think towards the ending she was a little too soft. In the beginning she did a great job as the hardened, no B.S. reporter. I was also thrilled with Michael Shannon's performance - I agree that he captures all of his moments really well.
This movie was a 100% reboot. Supposedly, starting with this one, all the newer movies are leading to a JLA movie. So, new Batman... New Green Lantern *crosses fingers for Nathan Fillion*, a Flash Movie, Martian Manhunter, Wonder Woman, and Aqua Man. Our movie watching days are most definitely going to be full.

Aardvark DM |

Elrawein, just for clarification. Was the question to Koriah Azmeren just musing out loud, or intended to speak to her directly? Because she is not in the room with you guys. The 6 of you are otherwise alone in the library with the box and notes.

Enjoying this a little more than I should be.
I'm going to laugh if Lucre, which means money, ends up being a play on the word of cruel, which is probably going to be some bit of foreshadowing for later. .. ... Cruel > Money > Greed > Transmutation
I've not done this AP before and now I'm all the more pumped for it.
That's of course assuming Lucre is right, which I kind of doubt.

Aardvark DM |

Okay, just a couple things I want to clarify about how I run certain things in PbP.
First, Perception checks will only be prompted if there is something to 'notice' (as in passing by something that may stand out as odd). Searching anything will be an action declared by the player and rolled by them in the post they declare it.
So if there is something hiding, or an observation to make, I will put in a spoiler with the DC on it (much like I did with the knowledge of Koriah) and you can roll and determine whether you succeed. Same with monster knowledges (when I remember them).
If you want to search a room for secret doors, traps, or not obvious loot, you declare you are searching, and roll a perception. I will NOT ask for perception checks to find such things, as 'searching' for things is an active action, whereas 'noticing' things is passive.
With combat, only Tanjvats is familiar with how I run it. I almost always do a battlemap (coworkers/boss permitting). The link to the map will be posted after the initiative counter (or a statement of no map updates if I do not post one).
I roll initiative for all (monsters and PC's) to speed up the process, but it will always be alphabetically (except all monsters are after the PC's) so there is no risk of appearing to arrange scores favorably.
I also format each round to cycle through the names. It will look similiar to the following
Round 1:
Dareon -
Monster 2 -
Elrawein -
Oz -
Faedrin - Drew weapon, missed monster 1
Monster 1 - missed Faedrin
Tanjvats - Moved to Q13, cast Bless
Monster 3 - 3 damage hit Gaileyon
Gaileyon - drew weapon, hit Monster 3
So the person at the top is the next to take their turn.
The text after the dash is what they did last turn
The gap between the top names and bottom names is the start of the round. So in the above example, after Dareon, Monster 2, Elrawein, and Oz go, it will be the top of Round 2.
I prefer to go in turn order, but I understand posting if you think you will be away when your turn comes up. or if the actions before you will be unlikely to affect your turn.
For monster knowledge, I try to remember to put in spoilers with DC's but often forget or don't have time. If there isn't one, you can roll a generic d20 labeled monster knowledge, and I will add the appropriate mods for you. I do NOT put in their stats when you know of them. I try to put a textual accounting of how it may have been recorded passed along. So for Troll regen, I may put, "they are often said to close wounds and even regrow limbs right before your eyes. It is fairly well known that fire or acid will put a stop to it."
Any questions?

![]() |

I'm fine with it, but I just read it as "S*#%'s getting ready to come out of this box."
Also, Monster knowledge, aren't those specific to certain monsters? Undead: Divine, Outsider: Plains, anything else: Nature, Elementals and such: Arcane, etc, etc?

Aardvark DM |

Yes, each monster falls under a certain knowledge category. What I was saying is, if you don't know and want to make a check, just roll a single d20, and I will add your appropriate modifier. Sometimes you won't be trained in it, and just won't know.

Elrawien Lantherion |

I will need to probably see it run to get a better feel.
I really despise Singer as a director though especially given the poor line Storm had in the first XMEN movie when she fought the Toad.
I really am dreading his destruction of the Days of Futures Past story.

Aardvark DM |

I just wanted to say, I had to do a lot of shuffling of icons on the map until I got what I consider the best split based on action.
I put the twins side-by-side
I put the dwarf away from the table in his irritation.
I put Dareon and Elrawein nearest the table as they were being the most active on the box.
I put Tanjvats near the two as he was looking to help, but wasn't quite as invested as the other two.
I put Faedrin beside the dwarf, as he was talking to him, and not as concerned over the box.
I had originally put Oz in the upper left corner (as the darkest spot in the room), but moved him to a space where he could put the warning hand on Dareon.
The whole thing was like a logic puzzle I had to solve for who was next to who, beside who, doing what, in the little confines of the room itself.

Aardvark DM |

You can post out of order, but just know that if someone going before you would make your action inviable, I may need to ask what the alternate plan is. Or you could pre-write contingent actions. As a player I hate going all at once, and being last as I end up with 15 contingent actions. If he does this, but if he doesn't, but if this happens instead, but it doesn't do this. In the off chance it does however.... ad nauseum.
I think the game has too much in it that relies on what the others do first, that it makes it hard to have every contingency covered, and half the time they do something I wasn't ready with a contingency for.
Again, that being said, I have had games where they all post at once, and I've just adapted. As a player, I wait until those that go before me have posted (you may have noticed this Lein, but maybe not since Kori is rarely at the bottom of the order).

Aardvark DM |

The word 'Map' under the initiative count is a link. If you click on the word itself it should take you to another page where I host the maps. Hope that helps.

Dareon Niroden |

Hey, Elrawien - a tip and a question - Put your out-of-character text in [ooc] colors, and include some in-character inner dialogue when you do things - it keeps things interesting to read.
Also, what spell are you casting?
