Daaneth Qilat |
You forgot my name already? I think you've been drinking too much friend. Daaneth laughs and takes a quick drink while he and Vessani are joined by a third person.
Things are always ugly when Imps are involved. Shoot first, shoot again later, it's all they know, but at least they've got the means to lock up those thugs that feel the same way. Since it needs repeating anyway, I'm Daaneth. What brings you boys to Krai Ven?
The togruta takes abother hearty drink and laughs as the hooded man threatens Vessani. He over heats the human woman mention something about a job, and it finally clicks that she must be Fiala. He makes a mental note to follow up with her after another drink or two. A quick job might be a fun time.
Jarl Tehnos |
Fialla walks over to Jarl and NT-2B and says, "Well, that's the best I'll do for information out of them. Still, it's something, and I'll look for more while you're working for me. Assuming you still want the job, of course?"
Jarl grins, "If a little blaster shootout makes me turn tail and run, you don't want me for this job or any job the way this galaxy is heading. of course I want the job.
You know any of these yahoos who decided to get into this shoot out fro the sidelines?"
NT-2B |
NT-2B stares blankly at Fialla's job offer, and then at Jarl as he accepts. "Our partnership is beginning more chaotically than I theorised. I anticipated a grace period of 3 weeks. This may affect my calculations for our estimated life spans."
His eyes go over to the trio of creatures that had stood up to the battle. "Though we can attempt to adjust odds. I believe you call it "stacking the deck"." He turns back to Fialla. "How large is your crew intended to be?"
Galactic Lore: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
Does "Judgment is coming?" mean anything to me? Is it attributed to a certain set of beliefs or anything that I may have heard of? Actually, with that roll, probably not, haha.
Vessani |
Vessani merely shrugs as the hooded man threatens him. It wouldn't be the first time, and it more than likely wouldn't be the last. Answering the Togruta, he says, "Looking for work, gotta keep busy doing whatever I can." His biological hand clenches slightly as he takes another drink, this one more moderate than the last. Turning to the other two that joined them, he says, "Well, boys, pull up a stool and grab a drink. It seems that the little tussle is gonna serve a purpose after all!"
Quick question: Would my character recognize Jarl, Jace, or Jeren? We all either served in the GRA or were involved in the war some how.
Jace Concorkill |
Jace worked in the medical field with his Master. Even though he didnt develop the talent for healing is Master was a powerful Jedi healer.
Jeren Vallin |
I suppose it is possible, though not very probable. They could have seen one another in passing maaaybe, but considering the number of Jedi (usually with their hooded robes on) involved in the war, the number of clone troopers and the number of others taking part in it, especially combined with the number of missions and the number of planets those missions took place on, plus the number of years since then... Well, that is a lot of numbers! And Jeren was nowhere near the scene-stealer like Obi-Wan, Anakin and Ahsoka were. ;-)
As far as he is concerned, he recognizes none of the rest of the PCs, or at the very least he does not remember them if he happened to pass by one of them during the war.
Jeren Vallin |
"Jeren," he introduces himself, pulling his cloak's hood down and offering his hand for a handshake. After he takes a moment to relax and drink a sip or two of his new cup of caf, he turns to the one who called Daaneth.
"Not much really. Just a stop for a bit of rest before moving on to my next destination," he says off-handedly. "I like traveling so I may as well do a bit of it. One never knows when one might need to finally settle down." He shrugs then. "Not that I would say no to a bit of work if I happen to find some. Traveling does not usually pay for itself."
"A purpose, huh?" The question is directed to the Zabrak, as Jeren's eyes linger perhaps just a moment or twoo too long on his cybernetic arm. "What would that be? Meeting new people, having a bit of a chat to pass the time? Or do you know of any people hiring?"
GM Phntm888 |
Looking at the four sitting by the bar, she says, to Jarl, "I've seen the Togruta pass through a time or two, the others no. But, they seem to have their heads about them."
Walking over to Daaneth, she says, "I've seen you in here a time or two, and I just saw that you're capable in a fight. You want a job?"
Looking at Vessani, she says, "Same goes for you, Zabrak. And your two friends, I guess." She looks over Jace and Jeren, then seems to do a bit of a double-take on Jeren, as though she's really studying him.
Jeren Vallin |
Noticing Fialla looking at him intently, Jeren remains calm, though there is a hint of nervousness in his expression, nervousness that could perhaps simply be explained away as being the result of finding himself stared at.
"Yes?" He colors his words with just the right amount of awkwardness and annoyance, nothing exaggerated. "Not that I am not thankful for the offer, as I could crtainly use some work and the credits that come along with it. But -and I hope you do not take this the wrong way- you are staring. Is something the matter?"
Not sure if it is appropriate, but it does seem as if it also is Saga Edition's version of Sense Motive among other things, so here is a Perception check in case it is needed.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
GM Phntm888 |
"My apologies, I felt like I'd seen you somewhere before. I can't place you though, so it must just be a similarity of features." Turning to the group, she says, "So, you guys want the job?"
You think she's telling the truth, but still thinking about it.
If those of you with a GAR background want to know each other ahead of time, I have no problem with it. But it's up to you guys.
Daaneth Qilat |
I take it you're the newest Merchant Guild member in these parts? I'm always looking for work, as long it doesn't involve slavin' or spice. Not just good at fighting either, I've got plenty of flight experience.
Daaneth knocks back the rest of his drink, and motions for another. May as well celebrate, looks like things were going to be interesting with a group like this.
Vessani |
Vessani shrugged as he turned towards the merchant woman. "Yeah, I'm good in a fight, though I've got skills in other areas. What you lookin' for in a crew member?" he asked, wanting to get all the details before signing on to anything.
Daaneth Qilat |
Daaneth swallows his next drink whole then stands up from the bar. He sweeps his montrals behind his head to keep them out of the way and pats the backs of both men adjacent to him.
Haha, sounds like we're about to have some more fun guys!
Turning to Fiala he flashes another smile and nods his head in the direction of the docks.
Let's go and see what you're flying then.
He introduces himself again and makes a comment about how they better leave soon because now every thug and brute in the bar has heard his name three times. Internally he's actually a little concerned it's going to get back to someone that he might owe money to, or maybe that hooded guy actually has friends he should be avoiding.
Jeren Vallin |
"I have heard that before," Jeren retorts, complementing his dismissive tone with a shrug for good measure. "I must have one of those faces, I suppose."
"As for the job," he continues, glad that the subject has been changed, "I certainly have nothing better to do, so hearing you out may be worth it." For a brief moment, he considers opening himself to the Force to allow for some insight into this situation he appears to have found himself in, but he decides against it, at least for now. He may as well hear what the offer actually is about first.
As Fialla mentions a ship, he turns to the others. "Any of you know how to fly a ship? Not my area of expertise, I have to say."
Vessani |
Vessani shakes his head at the question. "Don't look at me, I acknowledge that I much prefer to have my boots planet-side. Flying is not one of my favorite things in the galaxy," he admits with a grimace. "Doesn't stop me from riding in one. Just don't expect to find me behind the controls."
GM Phntm888 |
"Excellent! Come with me and I'll show you the White Dwarf." Gathering her protocol droid and Gord with a gesture, she leads the way out of the cantina and heads towards one of the docking bays.
Opening the door to the docking bay, she leads you into a large hangar. It looks to have space for 4 transport ships, though only 2 are present. One is a Corellian Engineering Corporation YT-1950, and the other...
"Here she is. The new Fondor Shipyards Dewback-class Space Transport. One of the first off the line. She's the latest addition to my fleet. I'll show you around."
Leading you up the docking ramp, she shows you the ship. It has 2 very spacious cargo bays, a decent lounge with attached galley, a nearly pristine engine room. The crew area consists of a captain's room, a mate's room (2 beds) and a bunk room (6 beds). There are also 3 small passenger cabins.
As you return to the lounge, Fialla says, "Here are the terms if you're going to work for me. First of all, the ship is your responsibility. That includes maintenance, fuel, and repairs. If you wanna make any upgrades, you're perfectly welcome to. That also means you have a fair degree of autonomy for yourselves. You pick the cargoes and other jobs you want to do, and I get 20% of the profits since I own the ship. How you divvy up the rest is up to you. If I need you to do a specific job, I'll contact you and pay you for it. So, what do you say? You up to the challenge?"
Vessani |
Vessani looked around the ship curiously, noting the different rooms and tech already on the ship. When she mentioned upgrades, he perked up a little. He was pretty good with machines, though not a real mechanic, so he wouldn't mind getting his hands a little greasy. When she got around to the contract, he nodded to himself. It was a fairly standard contract, all things told, and it seemed like an easy job. Walking up to the woman, he held out his hand and said, "Ma'am, you've got yourself a deal. Ready to ship out as soon as I get acquainted with the ship and we get our first order."
Jarl Tehnos |
Jarl stays quiet as the tour of the ship is conducted, he is a bit surprised at the level of control Fialla is willing to give a bunch of spacers she barely knows but its her credits not his so why even pipe up about it?
"You got an order you want us to fulfill right out of the gate Boss?
Though before we take any jobs we should really size each other up and know who knows what and who can do what, not good to be out in the middle of the galaxy and not be sure how reliable your crew is. Gotta say though, you all seemed pretty unfazed by that firefight in the cantina so that's a good sign.
I'll start, I'm Jarl, I have some significant Piloting experience and about as much combat experience as you are gonna find out here in mid-rim for someone who isn't wearing clone... I mean stormtrooper armor".
Daaneth Qilat |
Two pilots eh? For a bird this size that should ease things up a bit, but who is pilot and who is copilot? Maybe we should test our skills against each other Jarl, could be a good time!
I've also got pretty good aim with a blaster, left my rifle back with some friends or I'd be slinging that around too. Spent most of my life hunting game, so I'm decent at tracking, pretty good at not getting ambushed. Had to talk Imps off my boat more than a few times too.
Daaneth takes a seat and looks at Fialla, This is me accepting the job by the way. 80% split six ways ain't the best deal ever, but it's a nice change of pace. Just gotta let my crew know I'm taking a sabbatical. They just brought on another pilot so they shouldn't mind...much.
Jarl Tehnos |
Jarl shrugs, "You can be the pilot Daaneth was it? That gives you the fancy quarters. I will take the mate's room as I will need room for Not2bee here.
A man has to treat his Droid like family, especially if said Driod keeps that man in one piece!"
Vessani |
"I'm good wherever I happen to pass out," Vessani says with a shrug. Didn't always get to choose my sleeping area during the war so I can sleep anywhere. As for skills, like I said earlier, I much prefer being planet-side. I'm good at getting to locations unnoticed, I'm handy with a blaster, and I'm not bad with machinery, though I'll be the first to admit I'm not exactly a trained mechanic. Mostly just tricks and stuff I've picked up over the years."[/b]
Looking around the ship once again, he says, "This is a good boat, no doubt. Looking forward to serving on her."
Daaneth Qilat |
Aw, that's no fun, I thought you old soldier types liked a challenge. Won't say no to the bigger quarters though, that's a sweet deal.
I guess I don't see an issue with you taking a passengers room Jace, but if we take on any transport missions you may need to give it up temporarily. Can't expect people to pay us to move them in bunks. No money there. I take it that means you're in too?
Daaneth looks over his new pack, and realizes he's getting excited. He turns his attention on his new boss.
So, like Jarl said, I take it you have a maiden voyage in mind the newly form White Dwarf crew?
GM Phntm888 |
"Excellent. I'm glad you're all on board. Let's make it official. Gibby, hand out the contracts." Her protocol droid hands each of you a data pad with a contract spelling out the terms of your agreement.
Once you all sign and return them, she says, "Great! I think we're all gonna make a lot of money out of this deal. Your first job is a simple cargo transport. I managed to get my hands on some nice Fijisi wood from Cartooine, and a buyer on Ciutruc IV. I'll have it brought up and delivered in about an hour. You'll each get paid 750 credits upon delivery. After you make the delivery, your next job is up to you. Here's all the paperwork for the ship, and the signature pad for the cargo."
With a wave, Fialla exits the ship, leaving you to familiarize yourselves with the controls. After about an hour, Gord and a few other workers show up with several cargo crates. They signal you to lower the starboard cargo elevator.
Vessani |
"Arrgh, men, we here be privateers!" Vessani exclaims in a fake, old-world pirate accent. "I hereby claim the title of Cap'n Vess, Scourge of the Hyper Lanes. You, First Mate Daan, get these landlubbers a-movin'! We be getting cargo ta be shipped, and I don't wanna fail our patron!"
After the incredulous looks, he just shrugs and translates. "Well, we should probably sort out the specifics of what we'll each be doing on the ship, including the captain position," he says, looking at the others. "Regardless of what I just said, I really don't want to be captain. I'll leave that to someone who actually likes being in this giant metal coffin."
Jace Concorkill |
I am content to be a mere crew member. I might suggest that any humans in the group be the captain in light of the xenophobic nature of the Empire under Palpatine. suggests the vurk.
Daaneth Qilat |
Jace makes an excellent point. I don't mind flying this bird, but maybe barking orders should be left to one of you who has experience with it. We'll need a someone on the weapons, an engineer, someone running Sys Ops, and maybe a body giving me some back up in the cockpit.
Daaneth ticks each role off on his fingers. That's six positions, and six of us, so looks like everyone will be pulling some weight. Either way, I'm gonna go check out the cockpit and check out the controls. Vessani, I know a bit about fixin' ships up too, so maybe we could work together and figure out what we want to keep an eye on. The Dwarf is in better shape than my last ship, but things are bound to break eventually.
Jarl Tehnos |
"Weapons and back up in the cockpit are duties I can attend to, plenty of training in those areas. Not2bee is a Medical Droid but can you also assist with SysOps my friend?" Jarl asks "his" new Droid.
A strange thought, owning a Droid.
Jeren Vallin |
"If the Captain should be a human due to how things are nowadays," Jeren offers his opinion, "and Jace may very well be correct in that regard, then that leaves Jarl and myself. And since I know little of the workings of a ship or the tactics associated with space combat, I should think he is the better candidate for that." He shrugs. "Besides, he can also act as co-pilot to Daaneth, right?"
Looking at the others, he continues after thinking for a moment. "Vessani could act as the ship's mechanic, perhaps with a little help from someone else," he proposes, taking a look at the Togruta. "And Jace has already said he is trained in healing and medicine, so alongside NT-2B..."
He pauses for a second before addressing the droid. "Or is it Not2bee? You two could share the ship doctor's duties, right? And I am fairly certain that you are more than a little knowledgeable in other areas as well."
"As for me, I will admit I have little skill where ship duties and operations are concerned. I am pretty handy with my fists or a knife and I can move about quickly and quietly in general, but other than that..." He shrugs and smiles "Whatever I can do to lend a hand while we are on the ship."
NT-2B |
"Weapons and back up in the cockpit are duties I can attend to, plenty of training in those areas. Not2bee is a Medical Droid but can you also assist with SysOps my friend?" Jarl asks "his" new Droid.
A strange thought, owning a Droid.
"Affirmative." NT-2B begins. "I am particularly versed in Droid programming, maintenance, and repair, but I do not forsee any problems of helping with the ship. Since it is new, we are unlikely to need much along those lines for some time, anyway. I should have trouble getting up to speed."
NT-2B nods to Jeren. "Either designation is acceptable. And you are correct." NT-2B gives another nod, finding this acceptable. "After concluding several calculations, I have found that having each of us cross-trained in multiple areas will increase our overall odds of survival."
Vessani |
"I'm good with engineer, and if I train up a little, could probably take over for systems operator after a while," Vessani offered. "But yeah, if people double up on duties, then it should help our survival out in the inky depths. By the way, NT-2B or Jace, you have any history with working on cybernetic prosthetics?"
Daaneth Qilat |
I don't know Jeren, sounds like your pretty good at sizing up a situation to me. Maybe we should just wait and see what happens. Maybe someone wI'll naturally take charge. That's always what happens in hunts.
Daaneth looks over the droid with thinly veiled distaste. Never been a big fan of droids, but Not2bee has a point. At the very least it looks like we have a pretty intelligent crew. We may even be able to function without a commander.
Having already received his crew assignment Daaneth will eventually walk the ship, look over the controls and when it's time he'll head to the cargo bay.
NT-2B |
"I'm good with engineer, and if I train up a little, could probably take over for systems operator after a while," Vessani offered. "But yeah, if people double up on duties, then it should help our survival out in the inky depths. By the way, NT-2B or Jace, you have any history with working on cybernetic prosthetics?"
NT-2B turns to Vessani. "Not specifically, but there is little difference between mechanical upgrades and surgery. Metal and flesh are more similar than many... organic life-forms care to admit. I believe I would feel comfortable combining those two sides of my programming."
Daaneth looks over the droid with thinly veiled distaste. Never been a big fan of droids, but Not2bee has a point.
"Many are not," NT-2B begins, leaving a clear absence where many droids would say "Sir". His voice goes slightly colder. "I shall endeavour to adjust your opinion of us."
"As far as splitting command, a singular voice would be more optimal. During the heat of battle, conflicting orders can cost precious seconds. Perhaps an experiment is in order? I would be happy to create a hypothetical situation and see how each potential candidate reacts to it. An alternative proposal is to try to alternate, either at different stages of a mission, or perhaps over multiple missions?" NT-2B contemplates for a moment. "This may becoming confusing to some, though. I suspect we'd find that each will have their own strengths and weaknesses. However, the hope is that one candidate may rise visibly above the others."
Vessani |
"Count me out of the running for captain," Vessani said, walking over to the caf machine and getting a cup. He could use the extra fortification. "I tried my hand at leading during the war and it didn't work out so well. Expect me to speak up if I think a plan isn't good, or with some other idea, but otherwise I'll leave it to someone else." Nodding to NT-2B, he added, "Yeah, I do some work on it when I have to, but I'd much rather have someone who knows what their doing working on it. It's a pretty standard prosthetic, so no worrying about any surprises."
Jace Concorkill |
Not knowing much about his new companions that the Force has brought him together with the vurk is hesitant to volunteer for more, knowing that his training as a counselor might be of great benefit to the motley crew.
GM Phntm888 |
Once the elevator is lowered, Gord and the haulers load up the crates of Fijisi wood. As they finish, Gord hands Daaneth a data pad, listing their delivery contact as Thurman Halfgrin of Halfgrin Construction Group, LLC. There is also a message from Fialla.
It appears the criminal Vessani shot is no longer in custody. The troopers were ambushed and he was taken. The other two thugs were killed, and several Stormtroopers are injured. Watch your backs in case he comes looking for revenge.
