@everyone: would you mind terribly if i were to recruit someone to take over Durjaya the penitent? Don't think twilsemail is coming back anytime soon :-(
Honestly, we're so early in this, and Durjaya has had so little contribution, I think we can let someone create whatever character they want, and we can just pretend they've been there all along.

Rickmeister |

Yeah, that was my second suggestion. If they don't mind (and people rarely do) I would ask that they keep the name if possible, and adjust accordingly.
Would be good though if they could go divine, maybe even some healing, as I believe you are lacking in that field. But again, it's their choice, not mine :D

Rickmeister |

Thanks Valeeran :)
I'll open up recruitment, unless anyone here knows a really good roleplayer, interested in this?

Velera Eli'ret |

Hi everyone.
I saw that Rickmeister was out recruiting.
I've been looking through some of the pages here on this campaign and noticed that you lost your Paladin, i would like to fill those shoes with another Paladin, a Sacred Servant Archtype if it is aviable.
http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/paladin/archetypes/paizo---pal adin-archetypes/sacred-servant
I have been roleplaying for years, started when i was 17 (currently at 28), and have been playing pathfinder since it came out of beta early 2009.
I am not very experienced with email based play, but i like to think of myself as a fast learner.

Rickmeister |

Well, submit your character and we'll see what we can do with it. You have read the dos and donts, so show me what you got.
You wouldn't happen to want to play a half-orc named Durjaya, with that archetype, now would you? :D
Oh, also noticed you are completely new to the boards. Will you be able to post adequately?

I am new to the boards.
Checking them out many times a day and submitting my own responses should not be a problem, i have already read everything that has happened so far in the campaign and as far as i can see the half orc paladin vanished very early. My question, i would rather play a Character i made earlier today, SHE is a female human Paladin with the mentioned archetype.
Im not sure how i link her to the boards, but does this link work for you?

Under the "my characters" menu there was an ID of some sort on my character, # 104917-1

Rickmeister |

Right now I'm leaning towards meta-swapping them, since it's not going to easy anyway to "get rid of" Durjaya. Him suddenly becoming a her really doesn't matter that much, since there's been almost no interaction with Durjaya.
Velera (nice picture btw), you can create your character using the rules I mentioned in the recruitment thread (if you haven't already).
If you could tell me when you'll be ready to play, that would be appreciated. ;)
Also: SHOUT OUT TO ALL MY OTHER PEEPS OUT THERE! You still hanging on there? Or is "Labor Day" something grand in the US?

Thank you for your compliment Rick!
You should be able to see my complete Character with this Link.http://paizo.com/people/Velera/profile
She is created using 25 point buy and with 24k gold, looked like the others used those rules :)
Im do not know how to post my character, can someone tell me? :)

![]() |

Not sur ewhat you mean by "post your character" It is currently listed as a PFS character, and the full sheet is under the alias profile. If you are referring to the little cheat sheet of stats under peoples names. You write everything in the Class box in the profile section.

Rickmeister |

Actually Velera, you can post with your "alternate" by clicking on it in the "Post as..."
Oh, and it's 20-point buy :P

Rickmeister |

Can you post with "Velera", since that name has her profile attached to it? Easier for me...
Or, put everything Eli'ret has onto the profile page of Velera, is the same :)
((And could you take care of the mini-stats under your name?

Hmm, when i post stuff with Velera Eli'ret the picture is shown, but you asked me if i could post with the Velera alias instead, and when i do no picture is shown:\

Oh yeah, IIRC, Benaditi hesitated a moment before he referred to Biyu as a man... anyone (Shan?) want to roll sense motive to pick up on that, and figure out that he's the blue dragon in disguise getting us to do his dirty work for him? :)

If you give me an ingame hint i can do a Detect Evil on him atleast! I was not inside the tent, so i did not hear anything that was verbally exchanged.

Rickmeister |

Mine aswell. However keep in mind that on the board, people from all over the world are participating. And sometimes, the sleep is stronger than their desire to play :p

Anja Grava |

Nice one Anja with the intimidate!
Sorry to say he doesn't respond to it well :(
No spoilers, but is there a reason that he doesn't respond to it? The tengu before didn't really respond to intimidation either. Is it a characteristic of the game world? I had wanted to try intimidation as a tactic at this level, so I built Anja to that advantage, but if the skill is going to be purposeless in this world, I'd rather redesign her to try some other build.

Rickmeister |

Bali, you lazy bard, get off of your lazy arse and put on your lazy shoes so you can come and sing us a lazy song at lazy Thornkeep.
Get it? ;)

Rickmeister |

Anja, the Tengu responded to it, but it might not have been very clear. Things would have gone a little different otherwise.
Don't have to rebuild it, this rabbit just stopped listening to your mighty roar it would seem, so isn't intimidated by it :)
Maybe a good question for feedback on you all.
Do you reckon someone intimidated becomes "friendly" for the duration, or more like a reluctant "I'll answer your questions, you big bully!" kind of way?

![]() |

I usually play/see Intimidated people played as "I'll happily answer your questions so you don't cut my heart out with a spoon."

Anja Grava |

Yeah, I kinda feel that a successful check means that you've convinced the target that you are capable of following through with whatever threat you may have used during the check.
So when the tengu turns around and says, in effect, "Bring it on! I'll kick your ass!" that doesn't sound like he's been convinced that Anja would beat him senseless. And when he turns back around and only answers her questions because Valeeran repeated them, it's actually disregarding the effect of a successful check as the PRD explains it: "If successful, the target gives you the information you desire, takes actions that do not endanger it, or otherwise offers limited assistance."
A more difficult question for me with any of these social skills (diplomacy, bluff, intimidate, perform), and I think this may come into play with the rabbit encounter, is: how do you integrate the role-play with the die-roll?
What I mean is, let's say a bard is telling a story. The player posts a fantastic story, but, after modifiers, he rolls a 3. So does the character succeed, because the player posted a great story, or does he fail because the player rolled a 3? As a GM, do you count the great story as a modifier, like +2, or do you just ignore it in the game and consider the dice alone to determine the result? Or do you ignore the roll completely and judge the content of the story alone?
I tend to feel that you either give a little modifier for the creative story or use the dice as it rolls. Otherwise, you penalize other players for not having the same talent. For example, a less creative player wouldn't be able to play a bard because he can't come up with a creative song like his character should be able to. Or an unfriendly player couldn't play a charismatic rogue because he doesn't know how to chat up a stranger to earn their trust, even though his character could. Conversely, we never make a player do 20 one-handed push-ups to prove that his fighter can pass a strength check.
The reason I wonder if this is a question in the encounter with the rabbit, is I would think that rolling a 40 would mean that Anja should have done a good enough job threatening him to keep his attention. Maybe the NPC is written to have a short attention span, and as a GM, you may look at the wall of text and judge that the actual threat didn't come until too late in the 'story,' but that would feel like only the content of the roleplay is being given any consideration. Would an intimidation check of 40 combined with a short threat of "Give us Sonnorae's gem or I hurt you!" been more successful than Anja's long-winded story?
The other thing I considered was maybe the module explicitly explains that the NPC has no fear of pain or death, so he'll disregard any threats of physical violence (but threatening to show his Playbunny collection to the Rabbit Queen would be taken very seriously). I'll be fine with that, but this is the second character that's disregarded convincing threats of physical violence, which is why I asked if this is a characteristic of all storykin. I know they don't die, so maybe they also don't feel pain. If that's the case, I'd rather rebuild Anja, because I'd feel she's about as useful as a sailor in the desert.

Rickmeister |

Good answer :)
If you want to repurpose some skill points, I definitely don't have a problem with it. I will attempt to do the "bullied" better after this one (Who is effectively not impressed, which should stun Anja as everyone else around her is now scared of her :P ) so you don't have to :)

Anja Grava |

Anyone have a way to make him visible? Glitterdust or bag of chalk, or whatever?
Also, do we need to recast our healer again? That slot's starting to feel like the drummer of Spinal Tap...

![]() |

I'm curious about the visibility potential as well. Anja and I are pretty hosed if we can't see the guy.
Also, I hope not on the healer part. I'm hoping she's just been quiet, like I have been, letting the duel play out.

Rickmeister |

I urge you not the be quiet, but to still post once a day. This way it feels more alive, even if you say nothing more than "Shan-yu looks on, his eyes fixed on Khar." :)
Oh, and be sure to comment if you're going to join the fight or not!
@ Velera, where are you? :)

Anja Grava |

As a reminder, He ignores all cover and concealment. While I doubt an 18 hits, if it does the rabbit just took 183 damage...
Rabbit stew for dinner, it is! Anyone take ranks in cooking?

Rickmeister |

DM: Thank God the bunny has a decent AC!
Rick: Zen-archer rolled three twenties! Awesome!
Also: Twelve days since Velera posted. Find another replacement? What say you?
