First a very important house rule that was not mentioned right from the beginning. Dwarves in this campaign setting do not live to be hundreds of years old, but do live longer than the average human or elf. The longest lived dwarves in this setting reach ages between 155 and 165 years old (this is considered extremely rare) with average old age dwarves living to between 125 and 135 years old, this alone creates the impression among humans that dwarves live for “many generations”.
Religion on Karrita Morianna
The Empire of Atharosse (the Dwarven Empire) is relatively young, as compared to other empires and kingdoms of this campaign world, and was created out of older dwarven city states which held rule over individual islands or island chains in this archipelago. There are many “old world” dwarven deities, and some are represented by different names on different islands, but are actually the same deity across the archipelago. The official deities of the Empire of Atharosse are discussed first.
The regular dwarven “Gods of the Empire” are worshipped on the island of Karrita Morianna, with some small sects around the outer villages which still worship older deities, and on this island a growing following of a merging of an old dwarven god with a new incarnation.
The Gods of the Empire are:
Trembor and Yillise (Homedweller): The Great Father and Mother of all Dwarves
Trembor is lord of all domains, and protector of the island archipelago (A powerful Sea God)and his wife Yillise is the goddess of creation.
Ismaea: The World Witch
She is the sister of Trembor. She is difficult to describe and has an older interpretation that suggest she is the older sister of Trembor, but in modern times is seen as a twin to Trembor. She is often regarded as the creator of the dwarven race (not to be confused with Yillise who is seen as the Mother of all dwarves, but not as the creator of the dwarven race). Ismaea is called the World Witch, and the Good Goddess (not because her nature...
the quote doesn't list them all - But I can give more details if you cannot find what you are looking for.

Rownig's player didn't want another player picking up his character (totally reasonable) so I'm building a level 3 rogue now.
She'll be a delightful little know-it-all who totally deserves a spot on the team. Yup, you need her. Definitely.
She'll be very good at disarming traps. Not so good at spotting them. Not too terribly useful otherwise. Lol.
Do we know if we're using automatic bonus progression or background skills yet?
Edit: Since we start with wealth by level, is a Mithral Shirt available? It's basically the same price as +1 studded leather but just a lot better.

Yes random level determination is in use. Also, as a reminder, all characters (including the ones from the previous game moving to this game) should be built using the Automatic Bonus Progression rules
About the level thing - I'm not trying to hamstring anyone, just want to try to create a sort of "semi-believable" situation where the existing heroes walk into a tavern looking to hire help and they are not confronted with a room full of 5th level characters. I know it can seem like progression in PbP can be slow, and I will try to level up lower level characters at an accelerated pace, but you still might need to have at least one or two encounters under your belt before you are catching up to the others.

MY goal is to open the game thread in the next day or so (and fill it with posts that reflect the situation, and environment of the Town of Three Willows - I have this great two level map of a town district I want to use for the first "encounter")
The thread should get postings from the existing characters as they search for a suitable place to hire heroes to help them rescue their friend
I will want to make final character selections from this recruitment no later than Thursday or Friday, so new players can begin posting by the upcoming weekend
NOTE - I will be travelling to Hawai'i, Oahu, for our daughter's wedding from February 5th to the 12th, so expect a lull in posting in all my games around that time

Miagnik |

Heh, I like the simple backstory for Dinura. Shady business dealings with nearby Goblin work camps could be very exciting for a clever but otherwise bored farm girl. There have also been recent upheavals between various religious factions and rising tensions among the goblin tribes. Most Dwarves in the larger cities seem content to just ignore or, in the case of Dwarven nobility, seem too busy with their own internal troubles to really be able or willing to deal with it.
Rumors circulate that the current Royal family of Goblins have disappeared which has only further agitated the factions. Although there are now rumors that the princesses of the royal family may have been sighted again traveling through the nearby area. In fact, you may have heard of them visiting recently!
In addition, there was a raid by some sort of horrible freezing undead that raided and broke down a shop in the town.

Updating Miagnik with Automatic bonus progression. Largely this minimally impacts my character but I do have 2 questions of interest.
It does slightly alter one of the magic items I received, The Ring of the Dragon King, which was a ring that had a +1 deflection bonus as one of its abilities.
The 5th level deflection bonus makes this a superfluous addition but does it retain that ability? Perhaps still granting it to a lower level character as we may have a few.
Also, do the automatic level progression bonuses exist alongside the inherent stat increases from every 4 hit dice, or do they replace them? My instinct is to say they coincide with each other, but I haven't found anything saying otherwise.

Dinura Copperkeep (Lazyclownfish)
Beldain Rockdust (thewanderer123)
Kurgan Kegstalker (Grumbaki)
Barnabas Stoneshaper (Billybrainpan)
These four character submissions look great – consider yourself accepted into the game
I’m still looking forward to three more submissions, two clerics and a paladin, so get those in soon if you can
Answers to some questions
Automatic progression and Animal Companions – I can’t find anything definitive on this, but I’ve seen suggestions that the animal companion should use the same table, at 4 levels below the character – I don’t like that. Let’s use the same table for animal companion, counting the companion’s level as half the PC level, rounded down.
Miagnik – I am going to ask you to remove the +1 deflection bonus to AC provided by the magic ring, making it just a Ring of Spell Storing with no special properties. The ALPB does not eliminate or take the place of the standard ability increases at every 4th level (as far as I can tell).

Tick in the Barrel – Agos Cheimon
Love this character – consider yourself in the game, but please make some minor adjustments to your character background,
Remember, in this setting Dwarves DO NOT live to be hundreds of years old
145 is about as old as a dwarf will get in this setting, and a mature dwarf is probably in his 40’s, not ready to settle down yet, but old enough to have seen a few things.

You mean the submissions are accepted, not that our characters have been selected, right?

Description: Black eyes and tightly braided black hair riven with silver and white, Brolma focuses with intensity on everyone and everything with equal focus. She is slow to speak and tends to be elusive in her meaning, a self perceived prerequisite to knowledge: answers do not come easy.
Background:
When I came to the temple I sat by the hearth and stared in the forge, captivated in a way no other child might express. I heard a song of our people sang by our true mother in the cold dust and flickering light. I came to speak with the most quiet of the brothers and sisters, came to know the stories of the less obvious or celebrated. Always Ismaea whispered of the histories past and the flames long undone.
The ash is the heart of the diamond. The song the heart of our history. I sing it quietly for those who wish it and mark their skin with the spent flame so they remember where we come from. Whispers come to me of trouble. The heart of the earth, where the dark dust dwells and the light flickers and the song is most quiet. Will Ismaea call me there? The answer will surely come soon...

I've been dragging this out for a few weeks now,so I meant to say that those four (and Agos) are accepted to the game.
I might accept two more, I really want to see JonGarret's Paladin, and I think there is another cleric build I was waiting for (need to go back and read the thread again), but I do want to get started soon

Baradesh Ironheart |

Thank you for waiting - this is Jon, by the way.
Sorry, it's not perfect - I guess I'm not feeling quite as creative as usual, so the Personality section especially is lacking. I'll wrinkle out the flaws at some point, hopefully - if it's good enough to get in, of course.
Basically, Baradesh here uses the Dwarf Longhammer to unpleasant effect, as he uses Pushing Attack to force enemies back and get Attacks of Opportunity.
His basic story is that as he becomes more powerful his body is turning to stone - which is not the most comfortable thing ever. As he grows more powerful the more pain he is as his very flesh turns to cold, dead rock. Eventually, he'll have to make a decision...but so far strength of will, faith and a desire to help is winning.

Okay This recruit is now closed
It will be a big group of adventurers in the tavern in Three Willows when Miagnik, Moralane, Chuffer, and Mixz come looking to hire someone to help them rescue their friend Hallister.
Because there are so many I would like to make this suggestion. When The four original characters try to hire those they need, they can decide who they will hire and any characters who are not hired will be offered another game set at the same time on the same island (this also is being put out there for those who made a character for this game but not altogether interested in joining such a large group).
These characters are welcome to role play the encounter with the other characters in the tavern and hear the offer that is made.
Dinura Copperkeep (Lazyclownfish) Rogue
Beldain Rockdust (thewanderer123) Ranger
Kurgan Kegstalker (Grumbaki)
Barnabas Stoneshaper (Billybrainpan) Druid
Agos Cheimón (goodwicki) Cleric
Baradesh Ironheart (JonGarrett) Paladin
Brolma Emberrock (PirateDevon) Cleric
This makes 7 characters to add to four existing characters. If everyone joins that is a party of 11. Not too many, I can manage that, but I will expect people to be talking to each other and everyone who is participating may find they have to read a lot more posts than they were expecting.
I will try to open the game thread tomorrow. There will be a post that transitions the four existing characters to Dwarbon's house ( and those characters can post to each other their comments about what they want to do next, like visit a tavern and hire heroes) and there will be a post to introduce everyone else at the tavern
Because two different scenes will be playing out all I ask is that you put an OOC tag at the top of your game posts which clearly identifies which scene you are participating in
At Dwarbon's House
or
At the Miner's Lantern

Hallister Silverspike |

At least it's a crew of proper Dwarves comin' after me an not another bunch'a psychotic goblins.
So here's what yer gonna do- Get yer asses over t' the Gameplay thread, make a placeholder post, then delete it. That'll fix you to the game so it shows up in your Campaigns tab, but it won't make Terquem cranky by uglying up his brand new thread. He's very sensitive.
After that, report in to Discussion and get the party started.
...an' I swear t' the Helmsman hisself that if any o' ye turn out t' be some kind'a princess, I'm just gonna stay in this goddamn cell...
