Noting the Dwarf following him Miagnik halts in his tracks to look back at Beldain.

"This isn't something you want to see. You'll be better off staying here and helping Moralane deal with the remaining undead... You've got a similar fighting style to hers. Make sure you use it and keep at range from the drowned maidens. My magic is too destructive for large groups of regular townsfolk nearby."

One by one the shambling, mindless undead are brought down. Cold waves of bitter sea air and the spray of the north shore storms sweep over the heroes with each foe dispatched. As one monster is destroyed, it seems another, mindless enemy steps up to take its place.

Only the Drowned Maidens are of another purpose. Not intent on fighting against the dwarves and goblins in the street, these two intelligent undead creatures seemed focused on some task, some mission, and once Moralane and Miagnik realized what that mission might be, the drive to stop them became the only thoughts in their minds.

There simply was no time to explain to the strangers they had just met what was at stake, what the Drowned Maidens were after. Throwing themselves into the dangerous task of stopping the maidens they were only able to shout for support, and give simple commands. Hopefully, if they all survived, if they could stop the maidens, at least this time, they could explain everything later.

And stop them they did, but not everyone survived.

The quiet calm of the end of the battle seemed almost impossible to take in, at first. The explosions of the Drowned Maidens as they were finally defeated still rang in their ears as Moralane and Miagnik realized that some of the heroes that had stood with them at the beginning of the night had now fallen.

Those that still stood did what they could to give help to the local villagers, instructing them on what best to do with the bodies of the undead creatures, those bodies that were still recognizable anyway. Most of the undead creatures had exploded in cold and sea spray when they were overcome, but Moralane and Miagnik knew this was not the end of those creatures and after some time passed they would appear again, though for now neither one of them knew or understood just how, where, or when they might reappear.

There was one who might know. There was a being in the town that had been kept a secret from all others for decade, a being of unknown interests, powers, and abilities. All that Moralane and Miagnik knew of this creature was its name, and some legends and lore that surrounded the name.

The Eye of the Lakoradak

Hidden in the basement of a large farmhouse, kept by or the keeper of two once powerful wizards, the Eye was here. Hallister had refused to allow anyone in the previous group to even have any sort of interaction with the Eye, after all, legends said it was a Demi-Lich like creature, dead for thousands of years, that trapped the souls of men and women willing to bargain away their afterlife for knowledge and power, the sort of knowledge and power that every tale always describe as coming with a price.

And it was no secret to Moralane and Miagnik that Hallister was, first and foremost, a man of the Shadow Watch, the dark crusaders dedicated to the destruction of all forms of the undead. To Hallister it did not matter what an undead creature’s intentions might actually be, even the possibility of the existence of an undead creature that was not a threat to living beings could never be entertained by Hall, never. All undead were abominations to be eradicated.

But the Eye was here, and Hallister was not. Maybe now was the time to risk everything to save Hallister from a fate worse than death itself.

Please check in with a post in the OOC thread if you are still here, and still willing to play. The next post, after I see who is left among us, will take the party to the farmhouse and a possible encounter with the Eye of the Lakoradak – OR if the party has some other ideas about where to go or what to do, they should talk among themselves about those plans, and we will put those into action

Hal also had the entrance bricked up and hidden. I think Miagnik might be the only person alive who knows where it is.

Moralane stood near where she thought the entrance to the Eye's sanctum was. "Around here somewhere, right?"

Miagnik adjusted his shoulder and winced in pain. He was sure it was out of place due to the hits he'd taken earlier from the undead abominations.

"Not here, though it's close by. Follow me, we don't have long to go. We might need a hammer. Hal bricked it up." He was unsure as the wisdom of bringing Moralane along but he knew keeping all the information to himself wasn't wise either. He started walking toward the entrance.

Hal never would have allowed us to come back here... but then again he tended to run headlong into situations too.

"We need to get as many answers as we can from the Eye, Moralane. But this thing is terrifying in a way I can't explain. I thought it was going to kill me and Hal but it didn't. It's some sort of Undead creature but that's all I really know.

It's old too and seems to understand everything but it's also beyond caring. Or at least it said it didn't care." he rubbed at his face in worry. "It didn't ask us to give anything last time. Maybe it won't this time either, but it's unpredictable."

He sighed.
"We did what we could for the town. Do you think we'll still be able to get allies from here."

"Well, it looks like we have a few, at least," Moralane said, gesturing to the newcomers that had joined them. She was also unsure of bringing them along, but it didn't seem right to keep them in the dark if they were going to be risking their lives.

I think the intent is that we are all together. I'm not actually sure who's still int he game. Looks like the new folks who are sticking around get to jump right into the deep end. That's kinda cool.
