There is no apparent reason that you can tell why they are hauling away this large chunk of obsidian. You can tell that it was once part of the shattered monolith that once stood in the room and there are carved murals of what looks like dwarves bowing down at an ominous furnace.

To Group: the slaves names are Kibbo and Jarrdreg
They said "oh great liberator death sword, we sees lil pink-pink blood bags for the crown brought down yesterday. They go down next dark dark to serve the king and the knife."
I am thinking I will have them show us exactly where the children went. Then decide what to do with them. Any ideas cleric? Ranger can check to see if the tracks are true.

To Group: I will "ask" the Kobold slaves about what they know. Ask more about the whereabouts of the children....
I ask about the "king and the knife"

They seem genuine, but I look closer at them.

To Group: Sounds like the children are going to be used for a sacrifice to rid a curse from the tribe and caves. The head of the tribe is talking big, but the slaves think it will not work. They think there is something evil that is driving them out. They are being honest with what they think they know.

I agree. How do we move faster without much light? It seems we are stalling because of the lack of vision.
To Variel: Do you have any ideas to help with this? Or maybe you can scout ahead and use your vision to help us humans?
It seems to me the children are going to perish in a horrible way unless we do something quickly.

Lets check the hallway branch to the North before checking the double doors.
The Northern hallway runs about 50 feet before branching in to three different directions W/N/E. The W passage opens in to a larger room through a set of shattered double doors.

Sweet lead the way. I am a rouge (hear me roar) and will lead other times. Pitch black caves are somewhat difficult for the human that I am.
To DM: If I sheath my sword, is light still showing? I do not want to interfere with eleven vision.
Low-Light Vision
Characters with low-light vision have eyes that are so sensitive to light that they can see twice as far as normal in dim light. Low-light vision is color vision. A spellcaster with low-light vision can read a scroll as long as even the tiniest candle flame is next to him as a source of light.
Characters with low-light vision can see outdoors on a moonlit night as well as they can during the day.

As he leads the way into the room Jalriel cries out Ware! There is something above! and strikes a defensive position as a small swarm of insectoid like creatures with bat wings, a tangle of thin legs, and needle-sharp proboscis swoop down and attack!
One of the sickening beasts skewers Jalriel and begins sucking out blood.
The party may now act.

For the stirge sucking my blood, do I think that I could swing my sword at it or do I think it would be better to grab and pull or simply squeeze it with my prodigious strength?
You could smash it with the pommel of your sword pretty easy.

Horrified by the sudden attack of the stirges the party swings about ineffectively. Jalriel cries out in pain as the beast begins to suck the blood out of his body. The three remaining creatures circle about preparing for another swooping strike.
Initiative!

As the rest of the party continues to struggle to connect with the winged menaces, Variel lays a keen strike on one cutting it in twain.
As he does another slams into his back and begins pumping blood. Azzakan is similarly impaled!
Same initiative next round.
