Can we tell why they were moving the boulder?

Male Elf Druid/1 AC:20 HP:24/24

Draconic:
Oh great liberator death sword, we sees lil pink-pink blood bags for the crown brought down yesterday. They go down to the next dark dark to serve the king and his knife. You determine that the pair are actually slaves named Kibbo and Jarrdreg

There is no apparent reason that you can tell why they are hauling away this large chunk of obsidian. You can tell that it was once part of the shattered monolith that once stood in the room and there are carved murals of what looks like dwarves bowing down at an ominous furnace.

Female Human hmam

To Group: the slaves names are Kibbo and Jarrdreg
They said "oh great liberator death sword, we sees lil pink-pink blood bags for the crown brought down yesterday. They go down next dark dark to serve the king and the knife."
I am thinking I will have them show us exactly where the children went. Then decide what to do with them. Any ideas cleric? Ranger can check to see if the tracks are true.

"Azz do you think the kobolds are telling it true."
( try sensing motive on the kobolds)
DM: can I sense motive if I don't understand language?

Male Half-orc Paladin/1

I'll check tracks
survival: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19

Female Human hmam

To DM do I believe and trust the kobolds?

sense motive: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13

Female Human hmam

I will double check tracks if necessary to help Jalriel.

survival: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8

Yes just tough DC

Male Elf Druid/1 AC:20 HP:24/24

There are no obvious tracks. You sense the kobolds seem to be very genuine in what they are saying.

Female Human hmam

To Group: I will "ask" the Kobold slaves about what they know. Ask more about the whereabouts of the children....

I ask about the "king and the knife"

diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24

They seem genuine, but I look closer at them.

sense motive: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28

What did we find on the dead kobolds?

Male Elf Druid/1 AC:20 HP:24/24
Daedeloth wrote:

Poorly maintained short swords and daggers.

Male Elf Druid/1 AC:20 HP:24/24
Azzakan wrote:

[dice=sense motive]1d20 + 8

Draconic/Azzakan:
King big head use lil pink-pinks to drive curse from tribe and caves. He hold them for big ceremony then slicey slicey for lil pin-pinks! Big talk from big head, but we no think him make caves clean. Some evil dark-dark drives us out. You think they are totally on the level but may not know everything.

Female Human hmam

To Group: Sounds like the children are going to be used for a sacrifice to rid a curse from the tribe and caves. The head of the tribe is talking big, but the slaves think it will not work. They think there is something evil that is driving them out. They are being honest with what they think they know.

Let's grab the swords and daggers if we think we can get some gold for them. And let's try to avoid the big evil that is driving the kobolds out until I get more channels back, still only have 2 left.

Female Human hmam

To Daedloth: What? You do not want to face the big evil in a weakened state? I have a feeling we are going to have to face the evil to save the kids. Save your channels until a major battle. We may meet our death this time.

Male Elf Druid/1 AC:20 HP:24/24

What now brave souls?

Male Half-orc Paladin/1

I don't think the children can wait for us to rest...

Lead on.

Male Half-orc Paladin/1

I lead on....as soon as Daedeloth tells me where to go, lol...

further into the depths to find the kids

Male Half-orc Paladin/1

Yes, yes, to the depths we go...

Male Elf Druid/1 AC:20 HP:24/24

You guys are classic

There are exits to the W, N, and E.

Let's go West.

Male Elf Druid/1 AC:20 HP:24/24

The hallway continues straight out of the room for 40', ending in closed double doors. 20' in there is a hallway branching off straight north that goes as far as you can see with your torch/low light vision.

Lets check the hallway branch to the North before checking the double doors.

Female Human hmam

I agree. How do we move faster without much light? It seems we are stalling because of the lack of vision.
To Variel: Do you have any ideas to help with this? Or maybe you can scout ahead and use your vision to help us humans?
It seems to me the children are going to perish in a horrible way unless we do something quickly.

Female Human hmam

To Group: Did we not have a Wand of Light before? Light would be good right about now. I could always throw a bomb to light our way.

We have a light spell which is identical to what the wand of light would have done. We sold the wand.

Male Elf Druid/1 AC:20 HP:24/24
Daedeloth wrote:

The Northern hallway runs about 50 feet before branching in to three different directions W/N/E. The W passage opens in to a larger room through a set of shattered double doors.

Who wants to lead the way into the room with the shattered double doors?

Male Half-orc Paladin/1

I shall lead the way...

Female Human hmam

Sweet lead the way. I am a rouge (hear me roar) and will lead other times. Pitch black caves are somewhat difficult for the human that I am.

To DM: If I sheath my sword, is light still showing? I do not want to interfere with eleven vision.

Female Human hmam

Eleven vision as compared to 20/20. :( :( post

Low-Light Vision

Characters with low-light vision have eyes that are so sensitive to light that they can see twice as far as normal in dim light. Low-light vision is color vision. A spellcaster with low-light vision can read a scroll as long as even the tiniest candle flame is next to him as a source of light.

Characters with low-light vision can see outdoors on a moonlit night as well as they can during the day.

Female Human hmam

Azzakhan rushes forward with his blade aloft (the Beacon of Light) and opens the shattered doors!

Male Elf Druid/1 AC:20 HP:24/24

DM screen:

Jalriel perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25

stirge: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
stirgedamage: 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10

As he leads the way into the room Jalriel cries out Ware! There is something above! and strikes a defensive position as a small swarm of insectoid like creatures with bat wings, a tangle of thin legs, and needle-sharp proboscis swoop down and attack!

One of the sickening beasts skewers Jalriel and begins sucking out blood.

The party may now act.

Jalriel:
Take 10 points of damage, lose 1 point of CON damage, and make a DC 20 Fortitude save

DC 17 knowledge dungeoneering check:
You identify these creatures as stirges and know their bites may cause filth fever

Female Human hmam

To Group: These creatures are known as stirges. I know their bites may cause filth fever.

To DM: What is the best way to kill them? Do I know that?

I use the Beacon of Light to strike the stirge on my friend Jalriel.

fortitude: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17

For the stirge sucking my blood, do I think that I could swing my sword at it or do I think it would be better to grab and pull or simply squeeze it with my prodigious strength?

You could smash it with the pommel of your sword pretty easy.

Male Half-orc Paladin/1

I do so

Horrified by the sudden attack of the stirges the party swings about ineffectively. Jalriel cries out in pain as the beast begins to suck the blood out of his body. The three remaining creatures circle about preparing for another swooping strike.

Initiative!

As the rest of the party continues to struggle to connect with the winged menaces, Variel lays a keen strike on one cutting it in twain.

As he does another slams into his back and begins pumping blood. Azzakan is similarly impaled!

Azzakan:
Take 9 points, lose 1 point of CON, and make a DC 20 Fortitude save

Jalriel:
Take another point of damage and lose an additional point of CON

Same initiative next round.
