Sir Galavaine of Verbobonc |

Thanks Sallandrya. Slight amendment on the morning activities.
Sir Galavaine will take the mysterious cloak, potion and scroll to Rufus and Byrne in the hope that they can identify the items. He spends sufficient time to get a decent answer. If the mage cannot help but the Church can then the holy priest moves onto Calmert.
The knight finds walking hard, it feels like waddling with all those pies resting inside his stomach. Never take on a halfling or gnome again. Not at pie eating anyway.

Sallandrya Iramine Thainel |

I feel like we may have missed something, did we cover everything?
We found remains and belongings of two members of Hommlett, did we report both those? I know one was of import for the Druid which was taken care of. Also, did anyone inquire to Jozan after we left? He was the guy that was in the Inn before we left for the moat house. Willing to head back to the adventure I just want to cover all our bases.
We can also pass the scrolls to Pettry to see if he can use them.

Sir Galavaine of Verbobonc |

Probably need to go to the traders with some of this cash. Buy arrows and hopefully better armour for Andre and anyone else that can use some. Sir Galavaine has a very good AC already so others can use some of his wealth.
Sir Galavaine tests the items with Pettry if the mage and church prove unhelpful.

Apologies folks. Work killed me and I was struggling to pack to travel in a shortened timeframe, and I forgot the module. Thankfully, I was able to have my .pdf sent to me, but I can't run inkscape on this computer I found, so if we get back to the moathouse, I won't be able to map it until Saturday when I get back.
Pettry examines the scrolls and the potion, and assures Sir Galavaine that the potion will allow the drinker to direct the actions of undead (undead control), while the second is a trio of magic user spells, which brings a grin to the young mage's face, while sir Galavaine himself realizes he can read the second scroll, and it will ward the target against the attacks of the unliving (Protection from undead). The cloak needs no identifying. Tarmin fills the priest in on it. "It's not truly magic, it just appears to be. It was woven by one of my people and will aid whomever wears it to remain hidden from prying eyes." (elven cloak).
Who is going to the trading post besides Andre? Also, I just updated the list with the spoils of the fight with the seafood and the gnolls, as well as who I could remember having what.

Sir Galavaine of Verbobonc |

The holy warrior hands over the potion to Gnobby with a second glance. He shakes his head at Andre above the gnome but says nothing.
The cloak he leaves with the elves for them to decide and follows Andre. "If you need more wealth then I will help. The townsfolk have been most kind here. They deserve our protection."

In the morning, Andre and Sir Galavaine lead the way to a large, wooden building. Outside the door, a shield and lantern are suspended from chains. The shield is painted, showing a sword and a cheese. This is the local trading post, wherein a merchant apparently provides for the needs of villagers, travellers and adventurers alike.
The whole front building is filled with various goods. The barn has animals, saddles, and the like available to any willing to pay the price. Two men, a rotund man named Rannos and a tall, thin man named Gramag, are standing behind the counter when the group enters.

As the group browses, the two shopkeeps quote them prices for the items they handle or pause at. While the purchase price for goods they wish to sell is fair (50%, as normal), the cost of most items is inflated, The price for their one set of armor, a chain suit, even moreso at 113 gp. Weapons are consistently 120% of what they would cost elsewhere, with the exception of polearms or shields, which are marked up the mere 10% that most of the other, more mundane items are quoted to them as. The men stubbornly refuse to haggle, stating that they have to make a living out here.
Everything on your equipment list is listed at full value. If there are any mundane items you don't want to sell, let me know, otherwise I will strike everything and give you 50% of list (sans the items held by individuals and gems, as there is a moneychanger in town). I assume we want arrows for Tarmin and Salla, which will cost 2gp, 4sp per dozen. If anyone wants anything else, let me know and adjust your inventory, remember that the chainmail is the only armor in the shop, so only one character can buy it. I will adjust your wealth accordingly.

Gnobby the Gnome |

Gnobby looks at the shopkeepers and cannot refrain from speaking as he shakes his fist at them: "These prices are ridiculous. I cannot believe the authorities don't arrest you for profiteering. Charging people besieged by evil this much to defend themselves, you should be ashamed. You give honest thieves a bad name."

Andre Girard |

Andre sells all the equipment the group had recovered, and begins passing out the coin. "I agree with my little friend here. The Wise Fool encountered a Shopkeep like yourselves at one point in his travels. The Wise Fool went to him and saw he was charging five silvers for a loaf of bread! 'Why is this?', asked the Fool. 'It is simple,' the Shopkeep replied. 'I am in a small town, and the villagers have nowhere else to go. Am I not allowed to make a living?' The Fool simply shook his head and said, 'You are, sir, but they are not required to purchase from you. You make nothing of your own, and are dependent upon them. Perhaps you should keep that in mind.' The Shopkeep ordered the Wise Fool out, and he left readily. The Fool passed through this same village a year later, only to find the shop under new ownership. Prices were much fairer, and the Fool inquired on this. 'Oh, the old Shopkeep died the next day,' said the new Owner. 'Buried in a pauper's grave. The only people that came to his funeral were those to whom he held debts.' The Fool bought that loaf of bread that day, and shared it with the new Owner. 'May your funeral be visited by all of those you hold dear,' was his response before he went on his travels again.
"Money may help you in this life, but one cannot buy themselves passage into the Heavens." He purchases a few things from them, and makes his way to the shrine to donate the rest of the money to them.

The shopkeep eyes the two friends coldly. "Feel free to procure your supplies elsewhere next time if you think my prices unfair." He talks quietly with his partner as the group leaves.
Thus re-equipped (I still need to know what all was purchased), the party makes their way back to the moathouse more swiftly than their first trip. They are able to slip into the moathouse without incident, and make their way cautiously down the stairs. The area is empty, though the doors to the two store rooms have been flung open in an obvious search for the intruders.

Sir Galavaine of Verbobonc |

Just loud enough as they leave, Sir Galavaine adds, "...and sometimes our wisdom falls on stony ground. The seeds wither and die."
He clasps Andre's shoulder with renewed friendship in his example and turns his back on the shop.
Sir Galavaine has no church in town to tithe money too. But as an old school game it would make sense to pay something over. Would it be possible to tithe some wealth to the Lords Rufus and Byrne for increased patrols in the area and better equipment for the local militia? Out of his 212gp he will keep 100 and give over the rest.

Gnobby the Gnome |

As the group departs, Gnobby returns to the shop with a conspiratorial whisper. He moves to a table and takes out his dagger and shortword and imagines the jeweled daggers and swords he has seen before.
When the shopkeeper is distracted, Gnobby begins an encantation. He concentrates on his illusion and waves the shopkeeper over to his side. He can be seen to drop a series of daggers and longswords with jewel-studded hilts into a large sack. After his done, he cinches up the sack.
He turns to the shopkeeper. "How much will you give me for what is in this sack? I would not like word of this transaction to get out, so I understand the price will be reduced to pay for your discretion."
If Gnobby gets a reasonable offer on this sack full of cheap hardware, he will take it. Either way, he quickly departs the store and joins his friends on a trip to the moathouse.

Gnobby the Gnome |

Gnobby nods. Before departing he shares some information with a look of contempt for the truth of the following statement: "I was warned by a good person that this exchange we are doing is dishonest, and the goods would turn to base metals if I continued. But I was also warned by many a goodie two-shoes to refrain from lots of pleasurable activities when I was young, and no dire consequences followed."
Gnobby points to his hands, "No warts here!!"
Before departing, Gnobby adds: "I think discretion here is key. Rufus and Burne don't want to get involved here."

Sallandrya Iramine Thainel |

Sally, Tarmin stopped by and talked with the Druid
I was aware of that but I thought there were other lose ends with regards to the remains we found at the moathouse.
Anselth were there any inquires to the missing Jozan?

Sallandrya Iramine Thainel |

"A potion to control the unliving? That way lies evil, friends. We should give that to the temple for destruction."
Or we could use the potion to have the undead fight and destroy themselves.

Sallandrya Iramine Thainel |

Sallandrya will not go to the trading post with tho others, she will try to maintain that she is not part of this group as to better observe the town's reactions to her friends.
Minor recton please - Sallandrya will ask Andre to please ask if they have a strength bow available for sale, and if not if she can have one ordered for purchase.
How much gold did we get by the way?
I checked the campaign info but I don't think the final total is there.

Andre Girard |

I should have remembered that, thanks, Salla!
Andre examines the haul they've amassed just in their initial foray. "That's not insignificant. Pick out what you need from this, and we can sell the rest. They'll be ready for us this time, so we'll need to be twice as prepared as before."
Assuming we sell everything but the magical equipment, that comes to a grand total of 2534 gp and 28 cp. Assuming we sell for half, and that we split it evenly six ways, that's 211.19 gp each. The only things I kept out of this was the shield +1 that I'm using, the arrows +1 that I suspect the elfmaids will be fighting over, the holy water, and the mysterious cloak, scroll and potion. Let me know if anyone else wants anything!
For easy perusal...
For my part, all I'm picking up are a few essentials - a hammer and a dozen iron spikes, just in case we decide to barricade ourselves somewhere (or block off a section of dungeon), a larger quiver, another dozen arrows, a whetstone and a waterskin. That's well within my budget. The remainder I will set aside with Ostler to purchase room and board here for approximately a month, as well as stabling for my horse. The rest, however much that may be, is donated to the temple to St. Cuthbert. No saving cash for this poor knight!

OK, Everything's slowed down quite a bit. Let me get everyone to check in in the discussion thread and itemize anything your character purchased in town, even if it's nothing. I apologize for how it's tapered off, let's get back to the moathouse and moving forward. At this point, there's little more to be gained from additional time in Hommlett.

Sir Galavaine of Verbobonc |

"Let us clear some of the areas we missed along the way. Someone should keep watch in case they are preparing to attack. There are some cells close enough to look in now. Can Podo and Gnobby do the honours?"
Sir Galavaine refers to his map and points out one or two areas that should be investigated. His meticulous and organised methods show a slow and steady approach.

The four cells prove empty, with nothing interesting remaining behind. The silence seems almost more unnatural than before, knowing that the defenders must be alerted to the potential for another attack.
These were the cells that the zombies had been in. Unfortunately I am having computer issues again, so i can't update the map to clear them.

Sir Galavaine of Verbobonc |

"Let's move on. To the rooms next to the ogre. Perhaps a different direction would suffice to surprise them a little. My ambush would be later on or back in the courtyard in truth."
Head to the darkness beyond the large four pillar chamber. Rangers and rogues followed by paladin, wizard and then priest.
Sir Galavaine keeps a lantern lit and shining forwards to help others see. He is ready to hand it over to Pettry.

Andre Girard |

"A wise tactic, Sir Galavaine," Andre agrees. "We must have put a larger dent into their forces than I imagined - I would have expected a sentry or two here to delay us and report our intrusion. Stay wary, but perhaps we are closer to victory here than we originally believed."

Walking around the room, the group remembers why they hadn't proceeded farther - There is no door other than the one that led to the "pantry" where they found the captives. Podo idly brushes his fingers along the east wall, dreaming of pies and shiny things, when his finger catches in the stonework. Looking more closely, he finds the faint outline of a door. He and Gnobby check it thoroughly, but finding and hearing nothing, they open the hidden passage to find a narrow stair descending further. Andre again takes the point, travelling carefully down. When he reaches the bottom, Tarmin joins him and whispers in his ear, "This was as far as we made it before the fight with the gnolls."
