Balz...How did I get over here by myself?

Podo frowns at his predicament, and desperately sends a sling bullet towards the gnome lined up in front of him.

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12 Sling

1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 Bullet

Gnome (hp=5/5) AC=6 THAC0=20 Illusionist/Thief 1/1 xp 0/0

Gnobby attacks from the shadows and picks the biggest gnoll.

Unfortunately, the gnome is barely noticed.

I think I hit ac7

Female Grey Elf Cleric 4/Ranger 3 (HP 40/40, AC 2; Init +3; Perception +16, Infravison 60ft)

Happy everybody is back. Tarmin, just a reminder as a Ranger you get a +1 per level for damaging humanoids.

and why is Podo attacking the gnome?

There is no honor among thieves? He is roleplaying an evil general?

Male Halfling - Stout; AC-19/16/14, HP 9, CMB -1, CMD 14 Rogue / 1; Init +4, PER +6, F+2, R+7, W+1

Is there a difference between Gnomes and Gnolls"?

The Exchange

Podo and Gnobby both fail to strike their intended targets, though neither is sure if the gnolls actually notice them.

Still need Salla, then the gnolls will go.

Female Grey Elf Cleric 4/Ranger 3 (HP 40/40, AC 2; Init +3; Perception +16, Infravison 60ft)

Sallandrya will aim for any wounded gnolls first, if there are none left she will strike at those closes to her allies.

The Priestess of The Hunter takes aim, 'By Solonor's guiding aim, your pack will fall this day!

First arrow 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 + 2 = 23

1d6 + 2 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 2 + 2 + 1 = 9 dmg

Second arrow 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 + 2 = 16

1d6 + 2 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 2 + 2 + 1 = 9 dmg

The Exchange

DM:

attack Tarmin: 1d20 ⇒ 6
damage Tarmin: 1d6 ⇒ 3
attack Galavaine: 1d20 ⇒ 12
damage Galavaine: 1d6 ⇒ 1

Sallandrya drops the gnoll facing Andre, and puts another arrow into the enemy facing Sir Galavaine, though he stays on his feet. Two of the remaining gnolls charge the elves, the third breaks for the two warriors, though he doesn't quite reach them.

The elves dodge their attacks, and Sir Galavaine catches a weak blow on his sheild, easily turning it aside.

The battle of poor rolls. Group is up, map is up

Male Halfling - Stout; AC-19/16/14, HP 9, CMB -1, CMD 14 Rogue / 1; Init +4, PER +6, F+2, R+7, W+1

Podo moves up around the corner, and fires off another sling bullet at the Gnoll in front of him.

(They are much larger than Gnomes, and should be easier to hit).

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18 Sling

1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 Bullet

Male Human Cleric of Heironeous 5, AC-1/0 Hits 45/45, xp 13,363.5/27,000

Sir Galavaine looks at the battle and senses that this is the moment. When the tide will turn one way or the other. That is now. If they can down one or two in this time then the others will break.

"Do not let any escape. Podo block off their corridor." Then he concentrates on watching the hound-dog before him. Watching the way it nips at him with its weapon. As it steps back he launches a massive overhead strike following through with his bodyweight.

Warhammer of Heironeous 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9, damage 1d6 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 + 1 = 4

But the moment is gone just like a gnoll at speed ..... or on speed.

In a flash, Tarmin lets her bow fall to the ground and her longsword sings as it comes out of its scabbard. With movements both graceful and dangerous, she engages the charging Gnoll.

Attack 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Damage 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Gnome (hp=5/5) AC=6 THAC0=20 Illusionist/Thief 1/1 xp 0/0

Gnobby picks the biggest one and goes for the kidneys.

longsword/dagger: 1d20 + 4 - 1 ⇒ (4) + 4 - 1 = 71d20 - 3 + 4 ⇒ (20) - 3 + 4 = 21

His dagger hits for 2d4 ⇒ (1, 3) = 4 versus the larger creature.

if dagger does d6 versus large damage: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 5) = 9

Female Grey Elf Cleric 4/Ranger 3 (HP 40/40, AC 2; Init +3; Perception +16, Infravison 60ft)

'Let us end this packs ravages.'

Again Salandrya will pick off the wounded gnolls first.

first shot 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 + 2 = 18

1d6 + 2 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 2 + 2 + 1 = 6 dmg

second shot 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 + 2 = 20

1d6 + 2 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 2 + 2 + 1 = 10 dmg

third shot 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 + 2 = 18

1d6 + 2 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 2 + 2 + 1 = 11 dmg

edit - Legolas wishes he was me.

Male Human Paladin 3 [HP: 30/30]

"Aye, be on them!", the paladin echoes Sir Galavaine's cry. "They cannot be allowed to raise the alarm!" He steps forwards to meet the gnolls, stabbing at the one Galavaine has not engaged in melee.

8: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 4) = 12

Tarmin swings at the gnoll, but the beast easily parries her blow. He draws his axe back to strike, a snarl curling his lips, then suddenly stops, falling over. Behind him, Tarmin sees a small blade disappear back into the shadows.

Podo strikes his target squarely in the back of the head. When the creature turns to see where the attack came from, it gives Andre just enough opening to slide his sword between the creatures ribs. He draws it back as the dead gnoll slumps to the ground in time to see Sallandrya's arrows down the remaining two.

A quick search of the bodies reveals a number of coins and a small gem, but no other items of significance or value.

105 cp, 105 sp, 22gp, 1 gem. 78xp

Female Grey Elf Cleric 4/Ranger 3 (HP 40/40, AC 2; Init +3; Perception +16, Infravison 60ft)

Sallandrya looks upon her handiwork and then bows her head, giving thanks and renewed devotion to The Great Hunter.

Tarmin sheathes her unused sword, then bends to pick up her bow. Looking into the shadows she says "Well struck, Gnobby"

Turning to the others she says "Well, my path wasn't quite so interesting as Sallandrya's ", detailing what she and Gnobby discovered on their reconnoiter.

Male Human Paladin 3 [HP: 30/30]

As the gnolls fall, Andre puts his sword into each of their chests and removes their heads as well. "Best to end their suffering now, and make certain that whatever necromancer hides beneath this place cannot use them again. Let's check out the room where they were lairing next - there might be some clue as to what we're dealing with down here."

The Exchange

A search of the gnolls' chamber reveals nothing of interest, some ragged furs and other clothing, foodstuffs, and bedding.

... And hubris brought low by Solonor's grace.

"Your elven arrows are deadly, and that plan to split the gnolls shows great forethought. Solonor, tis lucky to have you Sallandrya." He bows to her.

"That does not mean I think less of you all else. Just that she showed talent in the same way as Gnobby and the ogre. Now is anyone hurt?"

Gnome (hp=5/5) AC=6 THAC0=20 Illusionist/Thief 1/1 xp 0/0

"When we split up we can do much more damage.":

Gnobby seems to joking.

'And I am lucky that The Great Hunter has blessed me with such worthy allies, Sir Galavaine, as well as bestowing upon me the smallest measure of his skill. Those were vile creatures, I am happy their trepidation's have ended.'

Salllandrya looks around.

'We best move their remains back to the filth of their room, at least attempt to hide that there was combat here.'

Anselth may I retrieve half my arrows, right now, after firing ten I think I'm down to two prepared with oil, some silver arrows, and the two magical ones. Also the 78 XP above was for the treasure or the gnolls?

Male Human Cleric of Heironeous 5, AC-1/0 Hits 45/45, xp 13,363.5/27,000

Can you not take the gnoll archers' quivers? They must be pretty full.

Sir Galavaine looks around to see how everyone fares. He looks to see how badly or well off everyone is.

Female Grey Elf Cleric 4/Ranger 3 (HP 40/40, AC 2; Init +3; Perception +16, Infravison 60ft)

I was thinking that too, but I am not sure if a Priest of the Elven god of Archery would use arrows from bested humanoids. Sallandrya has her quirks.

The Exchange

You can get back all of your hits, half of the misses, Tarmin too. That goes for any battle from here out.

Male Human Cleric of Heironeous 5, AC-1/0 Hits 45/45, xp 13,363.5/27,000

Galavaine hands Sallandrya a gnoll quiver and shrugs at her distaste. "I am afraid that needs must. Nothing much has changed. Our doth next battle will be all the easier due to each gnoll slain and the same will happen when we take out the next bandits. Until we have no spells and no arrows and are wounded then we must continue. Press home this advantage for all it is worth. If your god does not wish you to hunt with gnoll arrows then that is your decision. But the party is no worse off than before apart from your arrows. Be brave and the next fight will be all the easier." The holy priest repeats what he has said before and speaks openly to everyone to see if anyone else wants out for now.

If not then he prepares to leave.

Last chance to side with Sallandrya's idea.

Tarmin retrieves what arrows survived her last volley, then tops up her supply from the Gnolls. "I say continue on, the gods favour us this day ."

"There's still room in my sack for more treasure".

Female Grey Elf Cleric 4/Ranger 3 (HP 40/40, AC 2; Init +3; Perception +16, Infravison 60ft)

Sallandrya looks at the arrows given to her then grudgingly thanks Sir Galavaine.

The act seems to hurt her.

'Perhaps some good can come of these dark sheafs.'

heh I was not saying we rest and recuperate because I was out of arrows, I was thinking we just needed to maybe rest up. It looks like we push on though unless the others think we can gain an advantage by resting.

Gnome (hp=5/5) AC=6 THAC0=20 Illusionist/Thief 1/1 xp 0/0

Gnobby reluctantly follows. "I have no spells and have had none for a while."

This was a bad campaign to play a spellcaster. I have cast two spells the entire time. I am averaging one spell cast per 1500xp earned. Another statistic is I have cast one spell per every 6 and a half months of real time that has passed.

Male Human Paladin 3 [HP: 30/30]

Yeah, 1st and 2nd Ed were pretty harsh on spellcasters. Maybe we should look at stopping so Gnobby can contribute some more to the game!

Female Grey Elf Cleric 4/Ranger 3 (HP 40/40, AC 2; Init +3; Perception +16, Infravison 60ft)

True enough, hence maybe why we should rest up, but I don't want to bog down the game, so I will go with the majority. Sallandrya will take the lead if we push on, or play the rear guard if we decide to head upstairs and rest.

Male Human Cleric of Heironeous 5, AC-1/0 Hits 45/45, xp 13,363.5/27,000

I was hoping to carry on until Gnobby's illusionist gains a level and a spell. Multiclassing makes that a bit of a pipedream. Gnobby being able to contribute more is a good reason to stop, I'd get fed up casting one spell twice a year. I can leave it to the dice.

Galavaine looks at the elf's self sacrifice and shakes his head. "Try one. If the arrow is that bad then we can rest. See if you can hit that gnoll's head across the chamber. That's about 35 foot from the archway. Hit and we go on for one more room. Just one more room. Miss and we leave to rest. Let Solonor be your guide."

AC5 perhaps?

Gnome (hp=5/5) AC=6 THAC0=20 Illusionist/Thief 1/1 xp 0/0

At the rate we are at, I gain an illusionist level in 8 more months of real time play.

Male Halfling - Stout; AC-19/16/14, HP 9, CMB -1, CMD 14 Rogue / 1; Init +4, PER +6, F+2, R+7, W+1

I feel your pain. That's why we always used a Manna System with 1st edition.

Female Grey Elf Cleric 4/Ranger 3 (HP 40/40, AC 2; Init +3; Perception +16, Infravison 60ft)

Sallandrya locks eyes with the Sir Galaviane for a brief moment then without word lets fly an enemy arrow, while maintaining eye contact with the brave Cleric.

1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 + 2 = 18

'My fate is tide to yours, the hunt continues, allow me and Podo then to lead us to the next room.'

Male Human Cleric of Heironeous 5, AC-1/0 Hits 45/45, xp 13,363.5/27,000

"Good."

DM:

RE1: 1d6 ⇒ 2

Thus settled. the group prepares again to move out.

If you all ever want to rest, I can fast forward through it (with appropriate random encounter rolls, you guys are bound to get one one day) and put you right back here, refreshed and re-equipped. I want everyone to feel involved, but I don't want the game to progress any more slowly either. Also, the 78 xp was for both the gnolls and their treasure.

Gnome (hp=5/5) AC=6 THAC0=20 Illusionist/Thief 1/1 xp 0/0

Gnobby wraps himself in his cloak and follows Tarmin.
Maybe I'll find a wand.

Male Human Paladin 3 [HP: 30/30]

"[b]Onward then![/b[" The paladin resumes his place in the lead, heading towards the middle door in the southern wall, and listening at it before opening it.

Female Grey Elf Cleric 4/Ranger 3 (HP 40/40, AC 2; Init +3; Perception +16, Infravison 60ft)

Sallandrya arches her eyebrow and then smiles as the bold Paladin plays at being a scout .... a very well armored scout.

She gently motions to Podo to show him how it's done, then moves up to cover her friends.

The Exchange

This one Andre?

Male Halfling - Stout; AC-19/16/14, HP 9, CMB -1, CMD 14 Rogue / 1; Init +4, PER +6, F+2, R+7, W+1

Podo softly walks over and stands beside Andre at the door...listening a good two feet lower, but mimicking his position.

1d100 ⇒ 21 Listen (21%)

Tarmin takes up position a bit past the door, eyes and ears alert for any danger.

Male Human Paladin 3 [HP: 30/30]

That'd be the one, DM.

The Exchange

DM:

Andre reaches for the handle, hearing nothing. Just as he is about to open it, Podo grabs his arm and shakes his head. Deftly concealed in the wall is a mechanism that ties into the door. Podo and Gnobby are unable to trace where it goes, nor are they able to find any way to disengage it.

Gnome (hp=5/5) AC=6 THAC0=20 Illusionist/Thief 1/1 xp 0/0

"Maybe we use a rope and just open it from a safe distance.", the gnome muses out loud.

Dark Archive

Andre withdraws his hand as though it were stung, and looks dutifully impressed. "A good eye, Podo. Is it possible to defeat this from here? And maybe we should check those other doors for traps like this."
