Atajay - yep, sling is perfect.
Raveneau - no problem, there will be opportunities to pick things up. A little tougher without your own too, but it will make you have to get more creative. I like the Great Skua. How appropriate for a pirate. Background is fantastic. Very well done.

I'll update the list too, we're getting close.

Gerald/Atajay - Male Human Sorcerer (Stormborn) - Done
Mark/Raveneau Delahaye - Elven Net and Trident Ranger (Rigging Runner) - Done
Balodek/Uriah Hays - Druid (Aquatic) Ocean or Storm -Done
John/Ursion Crispin - Human (Sargavan Chelaxian) Ranger (Skirmisher) - Done
David - Tengu Jinx Eater (Custom Divine Class)
Meowzebub/Gimlet Swain - Halfling Rogue (Pirate, Scout) - Done - just add your background to your profile when you can.
Love - Sea elf/half-elf archer

Only Love and David need to finish and David, I know I have a couple private messages from you to get to. I've been trying to do this and the other PbPs I'm in for the last couple hours while my kids are rolling a pair of cavaliers for Kingmaker that I've been getting a ton of questions about.

I understand, my son has claimed pretty much my whole day today so didn't get to work on it as much as I liked. Most of my private messages are ways to save you work on that Jinx class! ;)

Ha, good news then! They are just headed to bed and I'm caught up on the rest of my games. So, onto your character next.

Update to character selections, David is going to go with a Tengu Phantom, a variant cleric from KQ12. Here's the gist of it:

Phantom:

The gods have enemies everywhere. To safeguard your ideals, you must act before they do, commit any deed, no matter what, to defend the faith from those who prevent your faith from creating its earthly paradise. You must fight from the shadows: always vigilant, always wary of treachery, always seeking advantage. Your accomplishments often go unsung, but that’s necessary. You risk your life constantly, uncovering dirty secrets and carrying out the jobs others can’t and won’t do. Your place in paradise is assured; it isn’t a sin when your god commands you to act in his name.

Role. You lack the full arsenal of your god’s spells, but can channel power in ways that better suit your sneaky nature. Along with your improved skills and ability to dispatch foes quickly, you are a master of espionage and excel at jobs that require stealth and secrecy. Squads of phantoms are often used for infiltration missions. Phantoms make especially good “cultists.”

A cleric build that:
Loses...
Armor Proficiency
Domains
Gains…
Skills (as rogue)
Weapon Proficiency (as rogue)
Sneak Attack (as rogue)
Alters…
Saving Throws
Channel Energy (new feature)
Spontaneous Casting

I don't think it will overlap much with Gimlet and gives a divine character with what should be quite good flavor for this adventure. We'll keep the rest of the abilities a mystery until they pop up (unless you want to peek ahead in KQ).

David will have it done tomorrow. We will get started tomorrow, so Love, we need to get your character in too.

Male Elven Magus (Spell Dancer) 11

Excellent good :)

Casting a quick eye over the other character sheets I'm gonna go meta a bit and change out my Knowledge (Geography) skill point for one in Stealth.

You'll be seeing Stealth from David for sure.

Question for you guys. Is everyone cool with the Peg Legs and Eye Patches rules on page 4 of the Player's Guide? If you would rather not play with them at all, we can go that way, but I think they add an...interesting twist to this AP.

Male Elven Magus (Spell Dancer) 11

I'd be fine with them.

Human Druid (Aquatic) 1

Fine with me.

Male Halfling Rogue (Pirate, Scout) 1

Should be fun

Heck yeah, I love the idea of the peg legs...

Male ***INACTIVE*** Human Ranger 1| AC 19 T 15 FF 14 | HP 11/11 | F +3 R +5 W +1 | Init +3| Perc +5| SM +1

Sure, even though I don't think those rules cover the seagull excrement rationale for an eyepatch.

Should I take offense to that?

Almost done with the crunch other than looking at alternate Tengu birds, like seagull

Hah, looks good Chak'Zirrak...have to see what the pirates come up with there. Last call for Love. We'll be starting within the next couple hours. I don't mind having a little crunch to wrap up.

Chak'Zirrak wrote:

No, it was a reference to an ancient joke.

Chak'Zirrak - Profession (Sailor) is trained only, so be sure to put a rank in there if you want to have it. I don't think the trait bonus alone is sufficient.

Right, moved Knowledge Local to that for this level and will get local next level.

Is the Ironclaw alternate racial trait ok? Wanted to double check that before finalizing. (Replaces sword trained with 2 claw attacks at 1d8)

Ursion I knew what ya meant :)

1d8 seems awfully high when you compare against the sword-trained or the feral mutagen for the alchemist (2 x claw at 1d6 and bite at 1d8, but only when mutagen is in effect). I'm trying to think of other equivalents and all I can think of is the tusks for half-orc.

1d8 does seem really high. Takes two levels of barbarian to get 1d6 claws, and that is only a limited time per day...Ranger needs two levels and Aspect of the Beast feat (I think) to get permanent 1d4 claws.

OK, that's why I wanted to ask right away as it seemed high and it is paired with the bite attack (d3) as well. It was on the Kobold Quarterly stuff on Tengu.

Would d6 be better? Otherwise I will go a different route. (I have a different plan if the claws are a no go)

I'd feel better about 1d4 or not at all. If you have a good alternative, let's go that way.

Sorry for the delay folks. It took me a little longer than expected to pull everything together, but we're off and running.

Item held back (actually three, if that's OK, but they go together): twine and two fishhooks.

Twine and two fishhooks is fine.

male Halfling Cleric of Abadar 3

Sorry love here. Spring attacked. Hayfever. ^&%#*$^ trees having sex in my nose.

Crunch nearly all done. Went Half-elf archer nothing that needs a look at. traits-armor expert & Besmara's Blessing. feats dodge & point blank shot.

Saved item is is a dagger. Gear is still TBD

If I am still in I will get full background and gear asap.

Male Elven Magus (Spell Dancer) 11

Hey Pirate King - are you pulling the images from the pawns pack? They're pretty darn cool if I do say so.

From the paper minis. I was going to use art from the book, but the paper minis have done the whole crew so I'm rolling with those.

Love/Green Sky - will you be heart-broken if I hold you out, at least for now? I've gotten a little worried about trying to run this with seven as I've looked at it more. There are a lot of NPCs for me to keep track of here.

Male Elven Magus (Spell Dancer) 11

I can offer a hand of help to maintain the crew manifest if you like?

I'd think a google docs excel sheet would be useful?

Well only a little heart broken. :7)

I understand Gming is hard work and I was wondering about trying to run an AP with seven.

I still want to play, and the character is finished (finally). So if there is a opening please consider me primed and ready to hop in. Til then consider me a lurker.

Keep the bowstrings dry
~Sky AKA Ernst 'Love' Lowfield.

Will do so Love.

Male Elven Magus (Spell Dancer) 11

This should be a shoe-in for Ursion given his 30ft speed over Gimlet.

Alas even a skilly class like a Ranger cannae fit everything into a build. Really wish they'd combined Swim and Climb the same way they did Balance and Tumble.

Human Druid (Aquatic) 1

As fun as it is getting locked in the bilge the image of the dog pile currently forming at the bottom of the rigging is keeping me smiling. :D

LOL, it is chaos up there right now. Most of us are NOT climbers!

Yes, a lot of swabs in this crew :)

Male Halfling Rogue (Pirate, Scout) 1

I'm loving the Campaign Info Page. A fine labor of love there. :-)

Thanks! I'll keep adding to it. My CoT Campaign has a whole Google Site, but it was started before the added the Campaign Info tab. This ship isn't as big as Westcrown, but there are a lot of people. Just give me a nudge if you ever think of something that I've mentioned that should be referenced there.

Raveneau - I may take you up on your offer at some point, but not yet. People have put together a couple of spreadsheets for running this and I'm toying with one of them. That may help matters. Right now I've got Hero Lab for stats, the spreadsheet for things like who is working where and what is their attitude towards you, and the Campaign Info tab for images and descriptions.

Male ***INACTIVE*** Human Ranger 1| AC 19 T 15 FF 14 | HP 11/11 | F +3 R +5 W +1 | Init +3| Perc +5| SM +1

Definitely appreciate the campaign info (hard to tell the players without a scorecard). Just one question--who's Badger?

Now added. She's the only half-elf on board. Raveneau had asked about elves and half-elves. I'll keep adding them as I have time and as they come up in the story. Once you guys get jobs, I'll have to have most of them added.

Human Druid (Aquatic) 1

Any reply from Magpie?

1 person marked this as a favorite.
Male ***INACTIVE*** Human Ranger 1| AC 19 T 15 FF 14 | HP 11/11 | F +3 R +5 W +1 | Init +3| Perc +5| SM +1

One other comment--the list of things we can easily find anytime should include "Beatings" between "Baskets" and "Blocks and Tackle."

Uriah - yes sorry, I'll get there.
Ursion - hah, perfect!

Male Elven Magus (Spell Dancer) 11

Just a note for Atajay and others about Raveneau the proud and petulant.

The character has grown up in an insulated elven enclave for years and years where he's been told that humans are inferior and elves are the one true race. So he will be a prick-bastard for some time, but that will slowly fade away. He does understand tacitly that he needs friends on board - especially since there are no other elves.

I've been gaming with you guys a while so hopefully you can trust me to make the change gradually and realistically over time - but if you'd prefer I can drop the nasty stuff and keep the negativity focused at the NPCs.

Male Elven Magus (Spell Dancer) 11

Been doing a little research into how we might arm ourselves and there's some pretty cool things we can try...

Marlinspikes / Hand Fids - tools for working hempen rope, and pretty bloody sizeable things also.

My personal favorite - the Monkey's Fist! - which if you're feeling extra fancy can be upgraded to the slungshot

Of course that would play out in thread at any rate - but a quick offline question for our dear benevolent overlord... is the rigging tarred?

The Monkey's Fist is in-game. It's a rope bash and happens to be exactly what caused the 1 point non-lethal to Uriah.

I need to do more researching tarred rigging. They are explicit that the rope is hemp, but give nothing on tarred or not (and I'm not sure where you're going with that yet.

I will let you know OOC that getting your weapons may be easier than you think, but would caution patience with your situation.

Male ***INACTIVE*** Human Ranger 1| AC 19 T 15 FF 14 | HP 11/11 | F +3 R +5 W +1 | Init +3| Perc +5| SM +1

AIUI, standing rigging was typically tarred to protect it from water damage.

Male Elven Magus (Spell Dancer) 11

Actual hemp rope was tarred as it was prone to rot without it (as Ursion stated). It was partially phased out when they started going to abacá (calico hemp) ropes - which were salt-water resistant. That was used for cordage in the 19th century though, so Age of Sail was historically tarred rigging.

Pine tar is a wonderful item that could come to all sorts of uses ;) - and if the rigging is tarred, then it shouldn't be hard to come by, no?

Oh sure, let's say we have pine tar in the hold and some is brought up each day for the riggers with rigging repair work.

On the boat 10 minutes and I've already been beaten unconscious. Lol. It's gonna be a long adventure!

Oh yeah...a helluva long first day. I think you've had it worst so far falling from the rigging and getting beaten. Uriah is only locked in the bilges/brig. Looking a little safer for the rest so far...mua ha ha!
