Amalina |

"He seems rather quiet for a hobbit, but it does seem he has he people's gift for moving quietly and without notice." Amalina says with a smile. "It is fortunate he happened along to make our task a bit easier."
She gives the arrow she was sharpening one last glance with a critical eye and then carefully places it back in her quiver. Grabbing the next from the quiver, she inspects the shaft and feathers carefully before starting to methodically grind the whetstone along the the edge of the arrowhead.
"I've never liked the waiting before battle or a hunt." She says quietly, the rhythm of the whetstone softly echoing in the camp. "I always need to find something to do, but hopefully the bandits will be nice and obliging and send a patrol or maybe even Oderic our way soon." She adds with a soft laugh.

Cereidh |

"I like the waiting," Cereidh says. "Nothing done yet, might be nothing needs to be done. Although it never turns out that way," she admits with a sigh.

On the trail of Oderic: early May, 2947. Early evening day 6 from Stonyford
After several hours of camping, Mal appears within twenty feet of the campfire. "A patrol approaches of four. Two look mean, ill-favoured men from the South, armed with bows and knives. Two are grim-faced men, veterans of many battles with spears and hand-axes."
You follow the wild hobbit to lie in wait along the path of the patrol who spots Anar from 120-feet.

Amalina |

Tensing for just a moment as Mal appears, Amalina then relaxes and is quickly ready for battle, Winter at her side. Moving quietly with the others, she finds a spot with a good view and clear shot to the path. Quickly stringing her bow, she waits with several arrows stuck upright and within easy reach. When the four men appear, she grabs an arrow and draws. Releasing a slow breath, her eyes focus in on the same man Mal targets, a few heartbeats pass and she releases the arrow sending it toward her target. Then curses softly as the arrow flies wide. However, at the same moment, Winter rushes forward with a snarl and sinks his teeth deep into the man's flesh.

I'm assuming both Amalina and the hound will go on the same Initiative. If you want to do separate just let me know. Amalina's attack misses, but Winter's should hit for 7 points to the same man as Mal hit.

"Mal" Malaric |

Combat starts 120 ft apart, so I don’t think Winter can close in one move. Yes they go on the same turn.

Thorgrim waited patiently at the side of the road, Notiscide unsheathed and griped in both hands tensely. He thought briefly of the bow he had gambled away, but he was not one to linger overlong on regrets, and, seeing the Southrons march into view, he thought that a bow would soon be returning to his hands anyway.
His plan was to lay in wait, then spring out in surprise as the foemen rushed to close with them, but when the wood-woman's wolf darts out of cover and toward the enemy, with a curse Thorgrim takes of after it.
The calculation was simple. If the wolf tried to bite all four men, they would cut it down before they fell to the rain of arrows. Someone had to save it from its own bloodlust.
And that was him.
He gave it no ill will. Not so long ago he was given to the same urges. And someone had been there to lift his bacon out of the fire. He was glad he could return the favor.
I'm fine with the DM always rolling initiative. Dash action.

Heh. They are 120 ft. away, and even a Dash I think only puts me up 60'. So the good news is I don't think you have Disadvantage. The bad news is that that 2 still probably won't hit. ^_^

Following her shot Amalina whistles a series of trills causing the hound to duck and dodge between the shrubs and trees approaching with more caution following his initial burst toward the opponents.
Commanding the hound to Dodge for this turn.

Wait, the wolf is dodging now? Okay, that sounds like a fine idea.
Seeing that the animal is no longer heading heedlessly into danger, Thorgrim himself holds back, taking pause to size up the enemy and letting the archers continue their work.

Amalina |

Yep, it's dodging. My bad so far this combat. Being so far out to start, kind of threw me for a loop, then a lot of the bow shots missed. Thought I might give him at least a chance to survive and let everyone catch up. :)

The hilltops SING with the resounding stroke as Thorgrim powerfully sends the two-handed Noctiscide through the foeman's clavicle, down and down shearing through muscle, bone, and sinew 'til the blade comes out the other side.
Finishing the circle, Thorgrim twists the sword, freeing it of most of the gore before bending down and wiping it on the dead man's tunic.
Satisfied that no other foes threaten them, Thorgrim sets to the dutiful task of searching the corpses relieving them of valuables they'll have no further use for. An' he thinks on it, the same goes for the captured foeman, so he relieves him of valuables and weapons alike.
Without pausing, he mounts one of the dead bowmen's weapons about himself, fitting its quiver on the opposing hip. He nods, relieved that he now is so outfitted to fight at range once again.

Cereidh |

Cereidh frowns at their unconscious but yet living foe. ”Amalina, not to ask if you have any experience trussing a man like a wild hog, but do you fancy that you might translate your Woodswoman ways to the task all the same?”

Findegil |

Findegil wipes blood from his longsword.
"Aye, we slew well. There are more brigands to attend to once we are ready to move."

Amalina |

Amalina nods at Anar's comment as she finishes binding and gagging the prisoner. She then tends to Winter's wound, removing the arrow and bandaging the area. Fortunately it seemed to be a clean wound didn't go deep. Finally she spends a few minutes recovering her arrows.

![]() |

Once the fallen are stripped, and their weapons stowed neatly in his own pack, Throgrim takes a moment contemplating their prisoner. He would leave this to others, but none seem to jump at the chance, so he bends to the task with his usual stoic commitment.
Dispassionately Thorgrim cuts strips of cloth from the rags the corpses wear, then, efficiently and tightly, binds the unconscious prisoners arms behind his back, and ankles together.
After a time, he splashes some water on the man's face and kicks his foot with his boot. "Wake, dog," he states. It is a command, free of venom.
When the man wakes he roughly takes the man's face and points it to where his former comrades now lie baking in the sun. "You see them? They were strong men. They shared breakfast with you this morning and you were walking with them, making plans for the day, and thinking of sharing clay pots of strong drink around the cookfires this night. Now they are dead."
Thorgrim pauses for breath. He does not openly take out his blade and start sharpening it, nor does he press a knife to the man's throat. Such gaudy shows are not for him. He prefers the straight way, like his sword.
"You are no officer in an army. None are coming for you. We are going to ask you questions. Be truthful, and things go softly. Lie, and things will go hard." He pauses, breaths.
"For now, we have two questions. First, what is the point of your patrol? Raiding, perhaps? Or forage?
Then, you have a new recruit, called Oderic. We have business with him. What is disposition in your camp? Must we slay many of your dog-brothers to gain his attention, or just some tens more?"
Thorgrim grows silent, expecting answer.
Intimidation: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Anyone wanna jump in and give me advantage? Remember, in 5E you don't need to be proficient, you just say "I'm assisting and giving Advantage" and the Player gets another roll. Nice! =)

Amalina |

Amalina and Winter walk over to stand just behind Thorgrim as he questions the prisoner. The big hound growls and rumbles at the bandit, looking especially fierce and angry after having his injury tended.
Placing a gentle hand on his shoulder, Amalina calms him but looks at the prisoner with a cold, hard look of her own. "He knows nothing." She says quietly. "I've known his type. Nothing but a weak minded follower and lackey. Easy prey for the Shadow and his minions." She kneels down, sniffs the air around the prisoner. Glances over to the decapitated body, then back to the prisoner. "You reek of fear and weakness. But now is your chance to prove you are worth the effort to keep you alive." She whispers close to his ear.
There's my Help Action for Aterro.

The grim-faced, defeated warrior sulks. After everyone gets their turn, he spits out. "Foraging. Protecting. What's the difference? Our camp is in there. People are counting on us for game and protection."
"You mean that new Beornling? What about him? What disposition?" He's a bit confused about the sophisticated question.

"Mal" Malaric |

Mal pulls Cereidh aside from the interrogation. The wild hobbit pulls her ear to his level and whispers, "Without the patrol, I can sneak you close enough to camp to show you where your boy sleeps."

Findegil |

Findegil speaks up.
"What is he like?"

![]() |

"The difference, dog, is how hungry your camp is. If they are desperate, our paymaster might consider a bale of grain in exchange for our quarry to be an even trade. But you do not sound like you were going far afield, so that means you have not out-stayed your welcome."
Thorgrim pauses to drink water.
"And by disposition, I mean, is he seen as fodder for the old hands to make sport with, or has he carved for himself a spot of security by the fire? Does he have the ear of your leader, perhaps, or is he just another thief in the den?
And speaking of trades, what do you see in your future? Would your tribe peacefully exchange your own hide for that of Oderic? Or is the chance of a parlay the same as finding a virgin in a whorehouse?
In which case, we would have no further need of you...." He turns, pets the ever-hungry Winter.
