"Interesting," Larissa says after hearing the description. "So, are they dangerous? Do they attack people? Or do they just keep asking about this staff?"

Male Minotaur Ranger (Hunter) 4 | Init +2 | HP 25/25 | AC 15 | Saves: S+5/D+4/C+1/I+0/W+1/C0 | Perc +3

"They can be dangerous in large groups...and they usually travel in such groups. I think we need to find out where to take this Staff, and quickly, before we bring ruin down on Solance!"

Male half-ogre fighter (champion) 4 | AC 17 | hp 40/40 | Init +0 (-4) | Saves: Str +6, Con +5 | Passive Per 14

"Moon-dancer mentioned her visions, and that crazy old man, he seemed to know something... but then, old age could be catching up to him," the young half-ogre looks to the door, "So what'll it be? City on black wings? Xak Tsaroth? Theros Ironfeld?"

Female Kagonesti Bard 4; AC 15; HP 27/27; Saves Str +1, Dex +5, Con +1, Int -1, Wis +2; Cha +5; Init +3; Passive Perception 14

"Let's check with Theros - I trust his judgment and he always had a good idea of what was going on in Solace. Then we ought to get out of town, maybe camp in the woods nearby while we decide our next move."

Init +3 | AC 16(13) | HP 26/26 | Saves: S+2/D+3/C+4/I+3/W+0/C-1 | Perc +2 | 2Wind: [X] | Surge: [X] | ArcRec: [ ] | Spells: 1st (1/2) | Insp: [ ]

Larissa nods at Moondancer. "Agreed. We need information, and we need to get this town out of the line of fire, so to speak. I'm in favor of your plan."

Male half-ogre fighter (champion) 4 | AC 17 | hp 40/40 | Init +0 (-4) | Saves: Str +6, Con +5 | Passive Per 14

"Let's go then. Best to move now, and draw them Draconians and goblins away! Otik, Tika, can you take care of the boy? See that he gets back to his parents..."

Rael gives a little frown at the idea of more camping but nods as the others agree. He cleans his daggers and sheath them in their hidden spots.

" Sorry about all this mess Otik. " He says offering some gold pieces.

Male half-ogre fighter (champion) 4 | AC 17 | hp 40/40 | Init +0 (-4) | Saves: Str +6, Con +5 | Passive Per 14

Real, they use steel pieces (convert your gold to steel) as steel has much more use in these hard times than gold...

Otik agrees to take care of the lad.

Heading to town, you notice lots of other individuals including draconians and hobgoblins littering the streets. They have carts and are attempting to put people in them.

Stealth check DC10 to get to the smithy unnoticed.

Huh? Do you mean like gathering masses of dead bodies and chucking them into carts to get them off the streets? Do you mean they're like "free candy" creeps trying to swindle people into getting in the van cart? Do you mean they're grabbing people and forcing them in, kind of like the emptying of the Thieves' Forest in The Princess Bride? Something else? I'm not really sure what's happening here.

Hazarding a guess, they are forcing people in. If it is anything like I think, the carts are basically cages on wheels.

Anyone with any insight can tell that Urgo will not sneak by while people are being threatened and oppressed. He tenses and looks to his friends, "I am sorry."

Then he steps out into the open and begins making his way toward the draconians, issuing a challenge as he draws his heavy blade.

At this point, I would suggest that someone try to dissuade Urgo from this course of action. Urgo has a strong sense of duty and honor, and it may take some good arguments to get him to withdraw. This is more difficult than the books, because we do not have Goldmoon to protect. (As Urgo is the possessor of the staff, he is the one that is the focus of danger, and the Measure does not allow him to run from a threat.) Anyway, sorry! I kinda wish we didn't see this... >.<

Half-Elf Rogue (Arcane Trickster) | AC: 16 | HP: 13/27 | Init: +4 | Perc: +5 | Spell Slots used: 1st: 0/2 | Hit Dice used: 2/4 | Saves: S: -1, D: +6, Co: +1, I: +4, W: +1, Ch: +1 | Character Sheet

I'm assuming there are overwhelming numbers?

Rael grabs Urgo by the arm and attempts to stop the Half Ogre. His feet scrape across the ground searching for traction.

" Urgo, be serious, if we confront these enemies now we will most likely share the townspeoples fate and the Staff will fall into the Hobgoblins hands. "

Male Minotaur Ranger (Hunter) 4 | Init +2 | HP 25/25 | AC 15 | Saves: S+5/D+4/C+1/I+0/W+1/C0 | Perc +3

Bel also steps in front of his friend, his bulk blocking Urgo from moving forward.

"This is not the time or place my friend. Think of all the innocents who will die if we attempt to battle these lizards right here...right now. We will free them, you have my word on it, but we first must solve the riddle of that staff you carry. They seem very keen on getting it, and we cannot let that happen. Come, let us get away from here while we still can.

"Urgo, remember what we talked about after those bandits burned Hake's barn - there's a time and a place," Moondancer says. "You can't plow a field in winter - planting before the thaw only wastes your seeds."

She hopes her words and those of the others will get through to the big man, but if they don't, she prepares to cast a sleep spell on him. It wouldn't be the first time ...

Init +3 | AC 16(13) | HP 26/26 | Saves: S+2/D+3/C+4/I+3/W+0/C-1 | Perc +2 | 2Wind: [X] | Surge: [X] | ArcRec: [ ] | Spells: 1st (1/2) | Insp: [ ]

Larissa's face goes cold and hard. "If you throw yourself into defeat and thereby make yourself incapable of helping, then you become a failure to your code. A dead man saves no one."

Male half-ogre fighter (champion) 4 | AC 17 | hp 40/40 | Init +0 (-4) | Saves: Str +6, Con +5 | Passive Per 14

It is easy to see his eyes rimming with tears, "They are suffering... We cannot just leave them!"

"Then it's agreed; we'll do what we have to in order to help them, instead of dying and leaving them with nobody to help them, like you were about to do."

Male half-ogre fighter (champion) 4 | AC 17 | hp 40/40 | Init +0 (-4) | Saves: Str +6, Con +5 | Passive Per 14

Urgo pulls the rolled up staff off his back and looks at it, then back at his friends, as if cycling through a difficult decision. It almost seems like he is going to hand the staff to Larissa, but slings it over his back.

"Very well, but I will not skulk in the shadows like a kender. let us take the shortcut to the smithy, round the Vallenwoods. Hopefully, the draconians will not be as concentrated on that path."

I am assuming that since we are from Solace, we can pick our way using the path of the most cover, without any rolls.

Yes, they are cages on wheels with overwhelming numbers. Sorry if that was unclear.

I am still going to need those stealth checks.

A group of three hobgoblins looks at your group and yells, Halt! We are in search of a blue crystal staff do you know where it is.

Trying to cow the hobgoblins, Bel steps out and speaks quietly to them.

"Now you would not want to die in trying to stop a group of powerful warriors who have nothing to do with what you are looking for, now do you?"

Intimidate: 1d20 ⇒ 14

Everyone look fierce and help Bel out!!

1 hobgoblin drops to the ground the other are taken aback for a minute, while you make your break.

Going to do a chase scene here (I need to review the rules) look for a post tonight/tomorrow.

Urgo instinctively takes a step toward the hobgoblins, but with a sharp look from Larissa, he snarls and turns to follow the party in escape!

Ooo cool. The chase rules from the DMG? I'm keen to give them a go :)

Lantern Lodge

Okay, from what I am understanding we are going to be going into an initiative format. For simplicity sake
you guys: 1d20 ⇒ 20
baddies: 1d20 ⇒ 4

And I did give you a free round from the intimidate, so please post your first two actions, remember that taking a dash action everyround will incur exhaustion levels.

Because this is in a very crowded area and have many things to hide behind I am giving you advantage on you rounds. Please roll Dexterity (Stealth) at the end of every round if you pass the complications. Also, if you are hidden please state whether you are staying in that hiding spot or continuing with the rest of the companions.

complication: 1d20 ⇒ 16 No Complication.

I am giving you a group of baddies consisting of 3 draconians and 6 hobgoblins

Male half-ogre fighter (champion) 4 | AC 17 | hp 40/40 | Init +0 (-4) | Saves: Str +6, Con +5 | Passive Per 14

What kind of actions can we take?

Lantern Lodge

Male

Regular move, dash, hide, and then there are complications, luckily there aren't any this first round. It ends until you can't pass a complication, hide, or the participants drop from exhaustion.

You only have a number of dash actions available to your character equal to 3+ con modifier. Each additional one will require a con check dc 10 or incur exhaustion level. At 5 exhaustion levels your speed becomes zero and you are out of the chase, at 6 you are dead.

You started with 10' of space between you and them. You have two moves to do thanks to your intimidate and luck of the dice.

Male half-ogre fighter (champion) 4 | AC 17 | hp 40/40 | Init +0 (-4) | Saves: Str +6, Con +5 | Passive Per 14

Well, I guess we should start with a dash then, to put as much distance as possible. Urgo will toss the staff to Moon-dancer and usher everyone on, then bring up the rear.

EDIT: Dash twice, since we have two actions.

Init +3 | AC 16(13) | HP 26/26 | Saves: S+2/D+3/C+4/I+3/W+0/C-1 | Perc +2 | 2Wind: [X] | Surge: [X] | ArcRec: [ ] | Spells: 1st (1/2) | Insp: [ ]

Larissa wordlessly lowers herself into a runner's posture for an all-out sprint.

Double dash here as well.

Female Kagonesti Bard 4; AC 15; HP 27/27; Saves Str +1, Dex +5, Con +1, Int -1, Wis +2; Cha +5; Init +3; Passive Perception 14

Catching the staff in a free hand, Moondancer takes off at a sprint, hoping to lose her pursuers in the crowd.

Double dash, then hiding.

Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19

With advantage: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26

Male Minotaur Ranger (Hunter) 4 | Init +2 | HP 25/25 | AC 15 | Saves: S+5/D+4/C+1/I+0/W+1/C0 | Perc +3

Bel stays to the back of the group with Urgo

Double dash

Half-Elf Rogue (Arcane Trickster) | AC: 16 | HP: 13/27 | Init: +4 | Perc: +5 | Spell Slots used: 1st: 0/2 | Hit Dice used: 2/4 | Saves: S: -1, D: +6, Co: +1, I: +4, W: +1, Ch: +1 | Character Sheet

So I can dash 4 times without con checks.

Rael darts forward with the group but quickly spies a good hiding spot and darts behind some stacked barrels.

Stealth: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Adv: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21

1st round: Move and Dash.

2nd Round: Move and Dash and then hide as a bonus action?

My intention is to hide until the enemies and then follow stealthy behind them.

Lantern Lodge

Male

The group continues to follow the group keeping close on the group. Rael and Moon-Dancer manage to loose the throng of pursuers.

complication: 1d20 ⇒ 16 No complication. Man, this is pretty bland.

Male half-ogre fighter (champion) 4 | AC 17 | hp 40/40 | Init +0 (-4) | Saves: Str +6, Con +5 | Passive Per 14

Is there anything that I can throw or pull down to create an obstacle for our pursuers?

Female Kagonesti Bard 4; AC 15; HP 27/27; Saves Str +1, Dex +5, Con +1, Int -1, Wis +2; Cha +5; Init +3; Passive Perception 14

Moondancer will follow at a safe distance, trying to determine if there's anything she can do to help the others lose their pursuers.

I'm not really clear about our surroundings. Are we among the handful of ground-level buildings in Solace? Is there anything around I could do to create a distraction for the others? Can we make a break for the woods?

Lantern Lodge

Male

Sorry, I should have been more discriptive. You are in an urban environment. There are empty vendor stalls all around so if you wanted to create an obstacle I will require an athletics roll to represent you pulling some crates, knocking some jars in the way, sudden turns, etc. It will require them to get an equal Athletics roll or better. You can set the DC lower if you want. Those who are now following behind the pursuers will be required to make the same roll or a similar one to represent finding a new path.

Male half-ogre fighter (champion) 4 | AC 17 | hp 40/40 | Init +0 (-4) | Saves: Str +6, Con +5 | Passive Per 14

Urgo calls to Beliminorgath, "Bel! Move that cart, and I'll take that one!"

The intent is to either create a barrier that will add time, or if they are close enough, to roll into them as they come up.

Athletics: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19

Half-Elf Rogue (Arcane Trickster) | AC: 16 | HP: 13/27 | Init: +4 | Perc: +5 | Spell Slots used: 1st: 0/2 | Hit Dice used: 2/4 | Saves: S: -1, D: +6, Co: +1, I: +4, W: +1, Ch: +1 | Character Sheet

Rael pokes his head up from behind the barrels checking that the coast is clear then he walks out.

" You should get clear with that " He says to Moondancer, pointing at the wrapped up staff. " I'll cause a distraction. Meet us at the smithy! "

Rael makes a few gestures, Chants a few arcane words and then waves a close copy of the wrapped staff above his head.

" Are you brutes looking for this? " he shouts at the hobgoblin and Draconians backs hoping to draw their attention. Then he dashes down a side alley he knows hoping to lead them away before finding a new hiding spot.

Action: Cast minor illusion to create the illusion of the staff. Spell Save DC: 12
Then as a bonus action I would like to use my rogue cunning action to Dash and then my regular move as well so I'm 60 ft away down a side alley.

2/4 Free Dashes used.

Male half-ogre fighter (champion) 4 | AC 17 | hp 40/40 | Init +0 (-4) | Saves: Str +6, Con +5 | Passive Per 14

Ooo, I like that one! DM, can I nominate Rael for inspiration?

Male Minotaur Ranger (Hunter) 4 | Init +2 | HP 25/25 | AC 15 | Saves: S+5/D+4/C+1/I+0/W+1/C0 | Perc +3

Indeed an excellent idea! Do you still want to try and block the path Urgo? I was thinking as they turn, Bel could charge them, doing a gore attack, then withdraw
