Won't: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Won't: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Kong runs screaming like a little girl?
Holding back, this time, Kong tries hitting one of the big ones with slumber. (DC 14)
Lina the Unbroken |
Will Lina save?: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Difficult terrain means Lina can't move much, but she trudges forward until she has a clean shot, drawing and firing her bow.
To hit: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Jacob Friedrich Schönherr |
Will: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Will: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
"We've seen this before - we can hold against them!" Jacob strides to the front, ignoring the fearmongering, and takes a stab at the large creature.
Rapier: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
mdt |
Jacob moves up past Luna, finding the cave itself is relatively free of bat guano, allowing him to actually attack. Although he misses. As does Lina.
The bat swarm flutters up and swirls around Luna and Jacob.
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4 Gain 1 bleed
The two larger bats chirp and the lead one bites at Jacob while attacking Luna with it's tail, the second stuck behind it's friend.
Bite: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Tail: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
The bite misses Jacob, but the tail stabs into Luna's shoulder.
Tail: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Neri up, then a new round.
'Kong' Groder |
No save for the bat? Slumber?
mdt |
Sorry, missed that
Will Save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
One of the bat's falls asleep, then falls to the ground.
Fall: 1d6 ⇒ 5
The sudden stop to it's fall awakens the now wounded bat.
This makes a small change to the above, Luna didn't take a hit, as the second bat would have flown forward, and bitten at Jacob and missed. The two bats are now over/under each other, one on the ground, one flying above.

Dc14 fort save per hit. Lose 1 str on failed save
Neri surges forward past his allies and into the swarm. He lashes out at the flying bat twice while he tries to maintain concentration on his spell. Necromantic runes dance along the rings on the whip handle, playing a chilling song as they tink together.
no computer atm. Move into square with bats, behind Jacob. I think I covered all the contingencies. Including damage from next two posts and bleed on next turn, 26 hp, 2 mythic remaining.

Swarm Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3 Gain 1 bleed
Attack of Opportunity, Neri: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
The first attack misses the bat, the second hits.

swift action: weapon is +1. Standard=Attack. Move=Withdraw out of swarm. 15 feet, just to the right of Lina. No mods added relating to any action Jacob may take.
Neri keeps his mouth tightly clamped shut as he concentrates on maintaining the spell in the swarm... and promptly fails as three tiny bats fall out of the sky with no impact on the swarm. The whip cracks upwards once more(or downwards, if Jacob downs the bat), Neri's own cobalt light licking along the whip's surface.
Then he slips back out of the swarm with a curse. "I can't get any luck with these flipping spells."
mdt |
If anything hits your hand, you can discharge the spell, yes? Well, the swarm is hitting you all over... I'm thinking you would have trouble not discharging it into random bats that fly into the hand, yes?
Neri Voler |
Good point. So I still have my surge, since he wouldn't possibly keep concentration? Edited to remove superfluous stuff... and added his slaughter of three random bats.
Neri Voler |
Swarms just suck :p. But it is what it is, no big :) Luna's racking up the kill count, at least :) remind Neri to never suggest underground again. Underground -sucks- for Neri.
Lina the Unbroken |
Neri, once we level up I'll craft you some Pearls of Power II and then you can fireball everything.
Jacob Friedrich Schönherr |
Jacob had no qualm in counterattacking their mammalian opponents.
Rapier: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
There may be something behind these bats - they aren't fleeing from the light as many otherwise may.
Luna Rook |
Luna takes a step back then tries to throw a bomb into the swarm next to Jacob hoping she might hit the swarm and the larger bat with the splash.
5ft step back, precise bomb to spare Jacob,1 bomb left, 5 splash damage, One more round of Shaken after this
To hit: 1d20 + 8 - 2 ⇒ (13) + 8 - 2 = 19
Damage: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (6, 3) + 3 = 12
mdt |
Luna, you can't do direct damage to the swarm with the bomb, but you can the bat. You would be better off throwing the bomb at the large bat, and letting the splash hit the swarm. Do you want to do that instead?
mdt |
Jacob's stab with the rapier misses the bat, but Neri's whip rips open a stitch on the side of the bat.
Then Luna's bomb hits the wound, tearing it open and sending a spray of blood over Jacob as the bat is thrown violently to the ground.
The other bat flutters up from the ground, and bites at Jacob.
Bite: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
Damage, Bite: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (4, 4) + 3 = 11
The bat's fangs sink deep into Jacob's side.
Jacob get's an attack of opportunity as the bat flutters up off the cave floor. Lina/Kong up.
'Kong' Groder |
Kong tries slumber on the other big, scary (noisy!) bat.
'Kong' Groder |
Oops - switch that to evil eye for -2 AC.
Lina the Unbroken |
Lina will move forward, and hack away at the swarm.

Jacob Friedrich Schönherr |
Rapier: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Between Kong's hex and Lina's mettle, Jacob was finding his rhythm in this skirmish.
mdt |
Bat Will: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Lina steps up and stabs the bat, moving through the swarm to do so.
Swarm Damage, Lina: 1d6 ⇒ 3 1 pt bleed
Will Save, Lina: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Lina ignores the biting bats and successfully stabs the bats.

Round 3
Initiative Jacob: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Initiative Kong: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (6) + 0 = 6
Initiative Luna: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Initiative Lina: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
Initiative Neri: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Initiative Big Bat: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Initiative Bat Swarm: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
Swarm Damage, Jacob: 1d6 ⇒ 5
Swarm Damage, Lina: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Bat Bite, Jacob: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Bat Tail Sting, Lina: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Bite Damage, Jacob: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (2, 1) + 3 = 6
Jacob is bitten again, and then between the flurry of bats, and the bites from the larger bat, he can't see the bat to attack it again. He looks around helplessly for the light, but everything is dark and red, and he falls forward to the ground, bloody and bleeding.
Everyone else (Jacob's attack (posted earlier) negated due to his being at -5 HP). Mythic auto-stabilization can't kick in due to the bleeding, 1 hp per turn. Being animals, the swarm won't bother to bite a down'd opponent (if they were vermin, they would).
With Jacob down, the swarm moves to engulf Luna again. The large bat adjusts forward to close with Lina.
Damage, Luna: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Neri Voler |
Fort: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Fleet Charge: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23
If hits, Arcana Point for max damage on next attack. 9 Damage, same for next attack.
Attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26
Damage Taken from swarm: 1d6 ⇒ 5
Neri sees Jacob go down with chunks ripped out of him and growls another curse. But he had to trust Luna to take out the swarm.
Hold action until swarm is either detonated, or Luna does something else. Swift = Fleet Charge, 1 mythic spent. Arcana for max damage. Standard = Attack. Arcana for max damage.
One arm wraps around the lower part of his face, covering his ears, nose, and mouth as he rushes -back- into the [dispersing?] swarm, the cobalt whip cracking out twice more at the flying bat, the whip seemingly guided by some sort of insightful magic.
20HP including bleed and swarm damage to self just now. 25 HP if Luna kills the swarm this round. 2 Arcana left. 1 Mythic left.
Lina the Unbroken |
Err, would I still take damage from the swarm if I'm attacking it? Since I've got a 5-foot-reach, I'm not sure how that works against swarms.
Neri Voler |
If you check the map, the swarm is a 2x2 square that's surrounding the two squares in front of the bat. You could totally fire an arrow in without any problems, but the swarm is stopping us from getting to the bats without standing in the swarm.
'Kong' Groder |
Kong does his best to stay away from the bats. It's unnatural, being frightened like this, and pretty new to him.
He'll try to daze the big one.
Spell Failure: 1d100 ⇒ 37
It's DC 13.
mdt |
Reach is pretty much useless against swarms
Kong, you need to make a concentration check to cast the spell, DC is 15+Spell Level, not a percentile check. So add your caster level and bonus stat together and roll 1d20. You may have special abilities from Mythic, depending on what mythic path you took, so double check those
Neri Voler |
Daze won't affect nonhumanoids either way :( Unless it's Daze Monster?
Lina the Unbroken |
Yeah, but I attacked the Swarm, not the Bat, which is what I was asking about.
Neri Voler |
As long as you aren't in the swarm's square, you have nothing to worry about via retaliation.
Luna Rook |
Luna hesitated but decided it was worth the waste.
"Last bomb." She warned the party as she took a step back and targeted the large bat.
5ft step, precise bomb, Out of bombs, 5 splash but this is my last round of shaken
To hit: 1d20 + 8 - 2 ⇒ (4) + 8 - 2 = 10
damage: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (2, 6) + 3 = 11
mdt |
Yeah, the lance didn't do anything to the swarm. I assume you used the precise to stop Jacob from taking damage specifically?
Luna's bomb misses the bat, but the splash damage still hits it, and the swarm. The swarm disperses, the last few bats flutter off screeching.
Lina the Unbroken |
I've been mostly using the hammer, actually... I probably should've mentioned, because it deals exactly the same amount damage. Doesn't really matter now though.

Round 4
Initiative Jacob: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Initiative Kong: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (2) + 0 = 2
Initiative Luna: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Initiative Lina: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Initiative Neri: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Initiative Big Bat: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Bat Bite, Lina: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
Bat Tail Sting, Luna: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Sting damage, Luna: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
The big bat chirps and bites at Lina, and drives it's tail sting at Luna. Lina's armor protects her easily from the bite, but Luna's doesn't stop the tail spike as it slams into her stomach, punching through the lighter leather.
Jacob now at -6 HP. Everyone else now up.
Neri Voler |
attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 12v. Flatfooted.
attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20
arcana to maximize either (9 damage) if they hit, once more. Which of last turns attacks hit, so I can mark off arcana? Move- 5 feet, if necessary, swift-surprise strike, standard-attack. Edit: Also, kindle officially won't let me move my piece at all, now :p. I'll get it at lunch. Forgot to move me last nightm
Neri adjusts his position, and the whip snakes out, then flies towards the bat, seemingly of its own accord, the cobalt energy guiding it once more, before Neri once again slams the whip towards its armored hide.
'Kong' Groder |
Ugh. I'm so limited in time lately, here. It fails, one way or the other, then. Can I get to Jacob without going through the swarm? I'm not seeing him on the map. BTW, that was for casting in armor, not concentration. Do I need a concentration check for something? I will cast defensively, if need be.
Kong will attempt a CLW on Jacob if he can.
Luna Rook |
That should at least stop the bleeding so he will auto stabilze
Since Kong took care of Jacob Luna would try to take down the remaining bat with her whip.
To hit: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16
Damage: 1d4 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 1 = 7
Neri Voler |
casting near the bats requires a concentration check of 15+spell level. That's why Neri's trying so hard to explode the bat, so we can cast again. Dc 16 for clw if it's still alive when it's Kong's turn. :) Also, you're fine, methinks. It's just got a lot of complications. :p. Pretty sure all of them have affected Neri, so I've kept track :p. Other than he disease. Neri is now at 24 hp after bleed. No mythic left. 0-4 arcana remaining depending on hits.
Lina the Unbroken |
Didn't realize we're up again.
Lina will power attack with her hammer.
To hit: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Damage: 1d8 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15
Nope.
mdt |
Between the bomb and Luna's whip, the last bat goes down.
Kong, doesn't matter now, even without your spell, it's dead. But yeah, the big bats make any caster within 100ft have to make a concentration check, DC 15+spell level, to get a spell off. Imagine trying to put a 1920 spring driven pocket watch together from parts while someone is scraping a nail along a chalk board in your ear.
'Kong' Groder |
No problem. Just really strapped for time this week, and not keeping up like I'd like to. Just moved to Austin on Tuesday.
CLW: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Neri Voler |
Neri would cast his infernal healing spell on Jacob, as well. It wouldn't be pleasant, but it certainly got the job done... Then he'd set out to close up any wounds that may still be bleeding.
Jacob will heal 10 more hp over 1 minute.
Heal: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Heal: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Heal: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Any attempts he makes over the next few rounds fail, though.
Lina the Unbroken |
Heal (self): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Lina stops her own bleeding. "Jacob, you okay? Maybe you should stay behind me if we see any more of those."
Luna Rook |
Luna would try to tend to her own wounds as well.
Heal: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
And she'd keep trying until the bleeding stopped.
Can I take 10 with a surge or take 20 to stop it?
