Rise of the Runelords Book1 PFS (Private)

Recruitment

1 to 50 of 81 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | next > last >>

I'm only running the first book for PFS, but if people want I can run the whole book and not just the PFS portion of it for fun, though the non-sanctioned part won't count.
This game is for those who responded to me in the PFS recruitment lodge.
Common Question and background info: DM, you sure you don't want to run all six books, after all you are running beyond the PFS portion of the book? No I am doing this because I have two stars, but my PFS says I only have 29 GM table Credits. What happened was when I reported my Iron Gods game I accidentally reported it twice and then deleted the duplicate, but my profile still kept the two stars. This is done to earn my 2nd star the right way. And because I want to give the community one PFS game they would enjoy, since it will be my last Pathfinder game I DM. Starfinder I like much better than Pathfinder version 1, and Starfinder is my new D&D hobby.
7 Player limit, Starts Monday April 22

Thanks DoubleGold!

Mighty noble of you to run something for the community!

Let me know if you want actual PFS characters here or just some dudes with different character creation rules. I'm good either way.

Yes, actual PFS characters. Though if you get killed during the non-sanctioned part of this game or use ammo it doesn't count. I'll let you know when playing the non-sanctioned part of it.

The Concordance

Ok... lemme see:

Sanctioned Content Key
Adventure Sanctioned Content Levels
“Burnt Offerings” Thistletop (areas C1–E10) 3–5

--> For levels 3-5 I have:

Bloodrager 4
Cleric 4 (still in PbP land somewhere)
Any pregen...

So let's go with the Oread Bloodrager 4 then (changed the alias to him).

Thanks DG!

Oh, wow, I'll try to make the non-sanctioned part quick then, ie. Parts A and B, since you will all fly through it anyway being no less than level 3. Playing the first two parts though will give you all a feel for the story and knowing what to expect. Didn't realize the sanctioned part started later, most APs they star early, like Mummy's Mask.

Grand Archive

I'd like to apply with my level 3 dhampir necromancer wizard. He is a thessalonian specialist (with the boon) so it would be very fitting to play him in this series!

The Concordance

They have it the same way with Hell's Rebels (part 3 of each book is sanctioned) so I've decided to run just part 3 and provide an 'RP summary' of the earlier parts. (i.e. the Pathfinder Society sends reinforcement for a previous party that has failed)

Hello! It would be really nice to be able to play an adventure path or a module with more background and also the possibility to deep dive into the the world and especially get to build a connection to the other PCs and NPCs. This is what I really miss when playing PFS. When player characters grow together this makes the story come alive. ;-)

So I would be happy if I could join your game and would also like to continue playing beyond any PFS sanctioned content. ;-)

Grand Lodge

Hey I'm looking forward to this thanks for running it.

Scarab Sages

This the PC I'd like to use.
I'm risking a Protege boon character and he's on the low side of the levels for the sanctioned content (level 3), but he can buy some "get out of jail free" gear.

His Inspiring Sword ability makes him consistently useful even when he's not slinging spells, and his Potent Magic ability makes what spells he does use be extra powerful.

The Concordance

Ah! Aroden Reincarnated! you are still alive! again! :)

I have heard you vanquished a nasty skeleton who wouldn't stop blabbing deep in the Crypt of the Everflame!

;)

Dark Archive

This is zer0darkfire's character if it helps him get into the game

Grand Lodge

I'm seeing 2 wizards and bloodrager so far. I have an investigator(4) or a druid archer(3) in range. I can play whichever the final group needs more.

Just checked I also have two fives but they may be a little much Evangelist clerics with an animal companion and a flying mounted lance inquisitor. Both 5. Feel free to share thoughts.

Liberty's Edge

This is Grayson, he should be a 4th level character by the time we get to this. He is a 2nd level monk/acrobat rogue, both unchained who is pretty good in a fight and being sneaky. He is good at looking up ahead to see what is going on and reporting back and works great with people who can flank with him since he can flurry with his tonfa. He can use alchemical weapons too to help do things like thunderstones and alchemist fires.

Liberty's Edge

Amaron Blackthorn is the character that was going to reply and then I saw the level range and the druid is not in that range.

I would say the evangelist cleric or the druid would be good additions for utility casting. Pretty sure we'll have enough wands of CLW and any of your characters could use those.

Evangelist cleric gets Countersong which is a greatly underrated ability that can save the entire party (e.g. harpies). I never like doing a PFS scenario without a bard. And, sure, Clr5 would be on the powerful side but still in tier; in my experience APs are tougher than most scenarios. And 3rd-level cleric spells are amazing (like Dispel Magic).

Liberty's Edge

By when will we hear who is chosen?

He notified us 'chosen ones' on the recruitment thread. Wait... are you trying to make a stealth check to slip into this game undetected? :P

Liberty's Edge

No, I had expressed interest in the Recruitment threads on my druid and came here under the impression that since he had chosen those who responded, but I guess not.

GM, I sent you a PM after your first post instead of writing in the recruitment thread but as you referenced my PM to you in the recruitment thread I assumed I would be able to post here too. ;-)

Scarab Sages

I believe he invited everybody who expressed interest in the other thread to come here and post a character, and he would take 7.

Liberty's Edge

Oh well.

In terms of a character, I would like to play the Warpriest Iconic pregen lvl 4 or level 7 depending on the tier of the group. :-D

Liberty's Edge

I might be getting two threads mixed up, I thought I read in the Recruitment thread about people being chosen, I thought for this. Has a decision been made here?

Liberty's Edge

If I did I apologize

Please make sure you post at least once with your PFS character by Monday, it also lets me check him for mechanical accuracy, passives that will affect battle and other stuff, I don't care about your chronicles, cause if not posting with character, I'll probably just skip over you.

Liberty's Edge

Who made it in?

Um, Decision is still going on, it ain't Monday yet.

GM Nowruz:

Hello DoubleGold, see my Iconic Shaman profile completed on level 7 although of course I would change the profile to level 4 if we play low tier.

Have a great weekend everybody!

Liberty's Edge

Oh okay.

He will be leveling to 4th. He just finished the scenario he was in and am just waiting on the chronicle.

Sorry for the confusion - I was like Gray Son writing with the wrong thread in mind! :-( Thus the level 4 or 7 is obviously wrong for Runelords. Please forget what I wrote!

I would create a first level halfling bard for this AP. :-)

The Concordance

Guys read the thread: we need level 3-5 for this one
Sanctioned Content Key
Adventure Sanctioned Content Levels
“Burnt Offerings” Thistletop (areas C1–E10) 3–5

@Jeydahvu: The GM indicated that we could play the non-sanctioned part as well. I could of course bring a PFS character of level 3-5 but would rather play the AP including the non-sanctioned part as well, thus I indicated the level 1 character.

How would that work?

Would you gain enough XP to gain 2 levels before the PFS sanctioned content begins?
Would we also gain XP during that time?

Either you are level 1 while we are 3-5, or you are level 3 while we advance to 5-7, or you gain XP and we don't.

I was under the impression that PFS characters don't gain any XP for the non-sanctioned part, so you'd still be level 1 for the content that wants us in the 3-5 range.

Liberty's Edge

I don't think there is any advantage for playing the non sanctioned part other than completing a part of the story.

Gray Son wrote:

If there was a multi-quote button I Would use it.

@Aroden and Nowruz: When playing the non-pfs part of it, you may use any character you'd like, but when the PFS part of it comes, you must use the PFS character someone levels 3 to 5. As Gray Son stated, there is no advantage for playing the non sanction part other than completing a part of the story, so a level three PFS character would still be level 3 and a level 1 character would still be level 1 when we start the PFS portion. And almost no downside to it since if your PFS character died during the non-PFS portion it would not be official as well as resources spent. The only downside is that the game would be slightly longer.

Thanks, I have of course thought about how this could work for me personally:I have a PFS bard/bloodrager level 3 currently that I would reserve for this AP. I would level the character back to level 1 and start this AP where I could include the experiences up to level 3 into the backstory. The progression in the AP up to level 3 would have no relevance in PFS but when we start with PFS content I will have a PFS character that still knows the AP history and the NPCs. ;-)

Liberty's Edge

That is the only benefit I think, Nowruz. What would happen if he were to die in the non sanctioned parts of the AP though?

You are right Gray Son that I would need to create a new character then for the AP but a character death in the non-sanctioned part of the AP has no impact on PFS.

I would need to take another level 3-5 PFS character of mine and proceed as I detailed above again-

But guys, if the majority wants to play only the PFS content then I would of course play that, too! ;-)

The Concordance

My vote is that we either play this in module mode with PFS characters or in campaign mode with non-PFS characters and get credit applied to a PFS character later.

My preference is getting a general summary of the non-sanctioned parts by the GM (i.e. 'the story so far...') so that we can jump into the sanctioned portion right away with our level 3-5 PFS PCs.

When playing F2F APs, it takes about 2 to 3 years for all 6 books, so approximately 6 months per book. I cannot even envision how long it will take in PbP if we don't stick to the sanctioned portions...

I agree with Jeydahvu on this.

Liberty's Edge

That seems to make more sense as a character would be tied up for longer with no benefit to the character.

I have a character who has been tied up for over a year in an Iron Gods campaign and it kinda sucks because I havent been able to put her in any of the game days or anything else :(

I guess I could fast forward the story a little, saying you guys did that, telling the story and a gist of what was there, dungeon filled with goblins and orcs, etc. and do a battle or two in those sections, then move on. Say 2 pre-PFS battles, like the tough ones, then pick up where you left off

See people interested
1. Jeydahvu
2. Aroden
3. Gray Son
4. Noral (which PFS character you using)?
5. Manus
6. Grand Lodge

edit: looks like I could recruit for one more.

Great news, 2 Tables. Exactly 2 Pre-game PFS encounters, though the two tables won't have the same two. 4 more people will be joining us. Those six that posted here already are guaranteed a spot.

Table 1
Table 2

You can discuss it out amongst yourselves who wants to pair with who, or just go to a table.

Liberty's Edge

I am fine with what ever group I am in. I will go to Table One and dot in.

Liberty's Edge

This is going to be fun, he just leveled to 4th and I am so looking forward to trying him out with a new martial arts style.

Nowruz, do you want to play on the same table?

Just to be clear, the tables don't have to be even, but I will stop a table at six people.

Liberty's Edge

I think that DM Patpony is looking for a game, Doublegold. I told him about this one.

Scarab Sages

Okay, given that the dhampir wizard has gone to Table 1, Aroden, Once and Future God of Humanity, will be at Table 2.

He's a utility caster with a great at-will aura buff, and a few neat tricks enabled by Foresight.

Grand Lodge

If there are still spots i'll opt in on table 2
