Inquisitors don't get Abadar's Truthtelling?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Shadow Lodge

I was planning on having an NPC Inquisitor with this spell when I realized it's not on their list. Given that interrogations are kind of their thing, and Abadar's Truthtelling is one of the best interrogation spells (a single-target ZOT that visibly indicates that the target is affected) this seems like an oversight.

Thoughts?

It's a variant of Zone of Truth that's specific to worshipers of Abadar; why should it be on the general Inquisitor's spell list?

Now, if your Inquisitor is specifically a servant of Abadar, I'd say you have a good case to make to your GM that it should be available to him that way... but not to all Inquisitors.

Golarion deities tend to grant their diving spell casters unique spells.

I don't see why an Inquisitor couldn't add Abadar's Truthtelling to his list.

Just to name an example; "Clerics and Oracles of Pharasma can prepare False Life as a 2nd-level spell, Clairaudience/Clairvoyance as a 3rd-level spell, and Moment of Prescience as an 8th-level spell." If I recall right, those are all normally either Wizard/Sorcerer spells or domain specific spells.

Euh, learning from Vampire the Requiem: simply order them to answer their first question with "red" when you indicate a blue tablecloth. If they succeed...

Unless they're compelled to follow orders, they could always choose to disobey and accurately identify the colour of the tablecloth, thus leading you to believe they're affected by the ZOT.

It's specified as being available to clerics and paladins who worship Abadar, so I'd expect it to also be specified as available to Inquisitors who worship Abadar, but Inquisitors aren't mentioned (possibly because it was originally published before Inquisitors existed and no one thought to add a deity-specific spell to their list).

It's an NPC, and I haven't specified a deity yet.

1: You're making an npc, ergo you're the DM.

2: You say the inquisitor gets the spell.

3: You're the DM, ergo, what you say goes.

4: Profit

Abadar's truthtelling was published in Gods and Magic.

Gods and Magic is a 2008 book for D&D 3.5 (pre-Pathfinder).

The inquisitor class wasn't published until 2010.

Therefore, Abadar's truthtelling wouldn't mention the inquisitor class because at the time the spell was published, the class (and the game system that class is for) didn't exist yet. :)

It's a perfectly reasonable spell to add to the inquisitor list.

Why would I want that awful spell from that awful EVIL (erm LAWFUL) enemy-god ? Icky-bad Lawful ?
