Sword in the... petrified monster?

Advice

In a campaign I'm running, very much a sandbox style game, a local area of interest is a field of petrified warriors. In the center of this field is a large petrified beast of some kind, with a Khopesh lodged in it. Originally meant as one more area of curiosity, two of my players have become fascinated with it, and want to remove the blade from the petrified monster.
While I have figured out some of the outlines of all this, as well as the blades cosmetic features (the blade is broken off just after the area that is in the beast, and when restored the blade reforms out of a ruby-like material that acts as non-fragile obsidian) but I can't figure out it's magical properties.
The blade is meant for a 4th level party, but they're pretty under WBL at the moment. Any suggestions?

Level 4 is roughly enough for a +1 weapon on a character, if following WBL, should be enough to catch up.

You could simply keep it a +1 khopesh and increase his value with jewelry and other decorations.

The khopesh could also simply have more value to someone else due to history, essentially making it more important by giving it a name instead of "+1 khopesh" it can become "Enchanted Khopesh of Azir IV, the god-king".

Of course, I don't know how you run your campaign...if your world has magic mart everywhere and the likes, feel free to ignore my suggestion.

If it delivered a fatal blow like this then maybe it has a property related to dealing crits - keen perhaps. Or bane vs. the monster's type, or something which might have negated the petrification effect which hit everything else there (Runeforged: Dominant/Commanding).

How about a "scaling item" per Pathfinder Unchained. Sure it's +1 right now, but there is some lore associated with it, and it will grow as the PC levels up.

I did this once.

In my home game, I had the group come across a petrified troll, a glowing sword stuck through its chest. The troll's stony claws still gripped a skeleton inside a suit of full plate around the neck, the ancient warrior and his foe locked in an eternal struggle even in death.

Then the glowing sword started talking, saying it was an intelligent magic item that had been trapped for a hundred years inside the troll. It begged the group to rescue it, warning them that there were dangerous monsters guarding the area.

So my players went in, slayed the monsters, and then tried pulling the sword out of the troll.

Of course, it was a mimic.
