Question: Demon-sworn Witch's Cruel Hex

The Cruel Hex feature applies non-lethal damage to the target of all hexes, even if the witch wouldn't want it to.

This is a nice damage rider for offensive hexes. I'm just trying to clarify for myself some of the interactions.

1. Are "always on" hexes affected (or at least the "always on" part for hexes with both, like Flight)? I'm assuming "No" or at least once you've taken the damage upon gaining the hex, you heal it and aren't affected again.

2. Would the damage immediately wake the target of Slumber? I'm assuming "Yes."

Thanks

1. I would say you take the damage when it is activated, if it needs to be. If it doesn't then I wouldn't worry about it.

2. Hmm, good question.

For 2, maybe the damage happens first, then the sleep affect....?

Silver Crusade

That would definitely be a benevolent reading, but I believe it happens at the same time.

Granted that's pretty much splitting hairs to get to the same end since in that case I believe the Slumber Hex would go off just fine.

1. No.Otherwise, you have the ultimate weapon for killing by hexes that act for days. Besides, in this case, it is not clear how often to do damage: once per round, once per minute, and so on.

2. A very controversial issue, but I would say that you need to rule in favor of the witch. The damage that is being done by cruel hexes is a significant before level 3-4, so it's more roleplaying feature. I don't think that one of the most useful hexes must stop working because of this.
