Which class?

Advice

Dark Archive

Starting to play in a new campaign (homebrew) where we're all members of a rogue's guild in Absalom. Not sure what race and class to play. Here are my stats (these are set):

STR: 15
DEX: 9
CON: 13
INT: 14
WIS: 16
CHA: 9

Now, I don't want to play a cleric (obvious choice), but it should be a support-type class since I may not make it to all sessions.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

Druid comes to mind as a possible choice.

Hmmmm.... half-orc druid with the wolf domain. I like it! Thanks.

You might consider the Nature Fang archetype. Trades away wild shape and other, lesser Druid abilities for studied target, slayer talents, and a single sneak attack dice. Would suit an urban based Druid fairly well. You still get a companion/domain. My favorite is crocodile. Familiar, grapple stuff, and scaling sneak attack.

Magus is one of the choices.
Some kind of GISH could work well too.

Hobgoblin warpriest?

Urban ranger? Slayer? Combat styles let you ignore feat requirements.

Cavalier? Inquisitor? Share and get Teamwork feats.

Spiritualist would be okay.

Ugh, this build won't work. Melee focused with crappy AC is recipe for dead PC.

I'm currently playing a warpriest in another campaign, so that's out. Thanks though.

Not sure the ranger would be a good choice with a 9 Dexterity.

I'll have to look at the inquisitor and spiritualist. Thanks.

9 Dex always sucks (I just played a dwarf cleric from level 1-14 with 8 Dex), but you can still 2-weapon fight as a 9 Dex ranger or slayer since you can ignore the 15+ Dex requirement.

You can build to be an Intimidate debuffer using that Strength for Intimidate feat. Maybe half-elf for the free Skill Focus or half-orc for the racial bonus to Intimidate?

reliquarian occultist

I would go for an inquisitor not just because of the stats, but also because it would do well in a rogue based campaign. Inquisitors have a lot of skill points and the important rogue skills are class skills so you would not be the weak link of the group when engaging in shady activities. With the right inquisition or archetype you could even be the face of the party even with a low CHA. Your sense motive will be extremely high making it difficult to get anything past you. Spells like invisibility and knock will allow also be extremely useful. Having cure spells and other healing spells will allow you to use wands and scrolls to fulfill the role of healer.

As far as combat goes inquisitors have the ability to go nova that is second only to a shocking grasp magus. A spell or two combined with judgements and bane will allow you to equal or exceed the damage of a martial class.

Slayer that fights with a one handed weapon and a spiked shield. With the slayer talents ignoring the pre-reqs for two-weapon fighting and improved shield bash, you could end up with a reasonable AC even with your crappy dex. A melee focused sanctified slayer inquisitor could work too since you have the wis for it. An avenger vigilante would also fit well with a thieve's guild.
