Exchange faction card question

UNPARALLELED SUPPLIER (7+ goals): Your access to superior resources makes your team deadlier. You can re-roll a total
number of your or your allies’ weapon or spell damage dice per day equal to your number of goals completed; you must
use the new result.

So if a party member cast a 10d6 fireball and I'm wanting to use one use of this ability on them, do they reroll 1 of the 10 dice or are they rerolling all ten of the dice?

If you have 7 goals completed, you can choose to reroll 7 of their 10 dice for that fireball, but then that's it for the ability for the day. Or you could have them reroll 3 of the 10, and then you have 4 left for the rest of the day, etc.

dang, that makes it less cool if so.

Great if you're running with a Greataxe or Lucerne Hammer, tho ^_^

Yea not a fan of Exchange faction changes. I doubt I'll use Unparalleled Supplier, ever.
Grand Lodge seems to be my new best faction, with the (regain lost secondary prestige boon.)

Seems alright to me.

Fireball!: 10d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 3, 6, 6, 6, 1, 5, 4, 2) = 38 Better than normal.

Pick roll #1, 7 and 10.

Fireball!: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 3) = 8

Increased damage by 7 damage. Would work much better with higher dice sizes, like the person wielding a Glaive or casting something that uses a higher die size.

So for a greatsword you'd pick one of the d6s to reroll when you use this ability?

See my reading is you get to reroll the weapon damage dice or the spell damage dice 7+ times. That means that for a greatsword doing 2d6 you'd roll both and get a new result for the weapon as one use. Which means that a fireball spell doing 10d6 damage would reroll all 10 dice with one use of the ability.

Shadow Lodge

Well, since it says "re-roll a total number of your or your allies’ weapon or spell damage dice", it implies that the number of dice being rerolled is what's counted; otherwise it'd just say you can reroll damage rolls.

Rerolling seven entire 10d6 damage rolls is huge, and a bit beyond the level of benefits these are supposed to give.

Anytime a 1 comes up, just reroll it. Odds are it will increase your damage output by [average roll – 1].

so for a greatsword you pick one of the d6?

See it's the wording they use when you roll the base and not add-ons like flaming.
Vital strike: Roll the weapon’s damage dice for the attack twice

You can re-roll a total number of your or your allies’ weapon damage dice X per day.

Like is the 's in vital strike making that big of a difference? Sorry if I seem to be stubborn, It's just hard to accept that a greatsword would pick one of the 2 to reroll, as I'm not aware of anything else that works similarly. Everything else to me would indicate that the 2d6 is equivalent to 1d12 and so you'd roll both on a re-roll.

Shadow Lodge

The difference is that Vital Strike doesn't specify a limit on those dice.

And as far as the greatsword goes, you can reroll one or both. If you reroll both, it counts as two of your daily limit. If you roll snake eyes, go ahead and reroll both, but it counts as two dice towards your limit. If you roll a one and a six, reroll just one.

right, I get that "i can reroll all 7 of a 7d6 fireball, just use all your uses"

That's why I've been keeping all the questions to what can be done with ONE use. And you're saying that with ONE USE I reroll one die of a greatsword, which just seems really strange. But it's seems like it must be the answer since everyone is agreeing to it.

I think Pathfinder in general references "dice" and "die" inconsistently, so I totally understand that there is the potential for confusion.

If, after GenCon, someone higher up wanted to include this issue in a clarifying post, it certainly wouldn't hurt ^_^

Anyone remember the pre-errata Whimsy Domain?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Each die rerolled is a use of this reward, so rerolling both dice for a greatsword would be two uses of this ability. This gives greataxes a slight edge, but they usually seem to face a bit of an uphill battle in other arenas.

Thanks!

GenCon was QUICK!

Eh, I think it's a trade-off; sure, a greataxe could go from 1 to 12 with one use of this ability, but a greatsword can up an average roll without risk of lowering the damage (reroll a 1 and keep a 6).

Ummm. Is leveling up the only way to learn more than 7 languages?

My character already speaks Dwarven, but next level I intend to pick up 2 more lingos (including one listed on the Season 8 Exchange faction card). So, do I get to tick boxes in both season 7 and season 8 cards because I have met the lingo prereqs on both?
I'll have 7 lingos and 2 of the named lingos - one from each season sheet?

But then I'll have spent skill points on getting to tick two boxes at the same time and that's still a no-no.

Or do I pick one and never ever get to pick the other?

I get that other tasks overlap as well, but figure it's easier to roleplay out of trouble more than once so that there can be many chances to tick more boxes ... but this is harder to duplicate across 2 different season faction cards. Or is it? (Am I missing something here?) Will I just have to pick one season to get the languages box tick and ignore the other?

You put points into linguistics in order to learn languages.

You can only mark boxes on one sheet at a time, and in general only one box per session. If you can mark some of the goals off along with another goal, it is specifically listed on the sheet.

What I've done for this goal is marked it when I couldn't achieve any of the other goals that session. Do it first on the sheet with the most goals. If you can always mark off one of the other goals, great! You are making as good of progress as you can and still have a reserved spot for when an adventure doesn't allow you to otherwise check a goal.
