The worst, most memorable puns you've seen at the gaming table

Gamer Life General Discussion

I bet I'm not the only one here who both loves and hates a good pun. It might just be my experience, but when I'm in a session I see an abundance of them pop up. Though, truthfully, most of them are mine ;P

I've got tons of them.

Stereotypical anti-paladin bent on apocalypse? Better name him Malice.

Can't think of a name for your kingdom? Call it Carmile and it's cities Subaru, Audi, and Nissan. Throw in route 66 and call it done.

Or, my first and personal favorite: Name your tengu Ten'shun and claim that your namesake rises every time you get up in the morning.

Am I really just a Loon? Yes

But puns are always fun in the end, and this thread can exist to document all the horrifying wordplay encountered during our gaming. (Seriously though, why don't we gain EXP from Pun encounters?)

This should be in the gamer talk forum

Scarab Sages

In a battle in a winery's storage warehouse a ghoul in an area of darkness spell stumbles into a open vat of wine.. after the fight when asked one player replies to leave the ghoul in the vat..

Why? So we can have wine ghoullers on the trip home..

Gaseous Form really saved my life against that duelist. Or perhaps I really mist the point.

I have a 37 Know(engineering) to ID the elemental. What else did knowledge (planes) mean?

Did you hear about the necromancer whose minions turned on him? He was certainly in a grave situation.

Summoning is tough, I really find when I try I'm between a Roc and a hard place.

A small horselike beast of burden, named "Oatey".

I had an archer named Sterling and a sprite named Soda.

Slightly meta, but I was building a massive-reach bloodrager for a high-level campaign. And, of course, the eventual comparisons to Dhalsim came up. Cue the pun I'd been preparing for a while:

"Dhalsim? I barely know him!"

only works if you mispronounce the name

4/10

better luck next time, buddy

4E game, dwarf wizard turned into a fire elemental or something.

My response:
"Someone call 911, shorty fire burning"

Scarab Sages

I was in a game of TORG for a while before it sadly ground to a halt when an important player stopped showing up at an important moment - anyways, long before then, in an earlier "episode" (since that's kind of how TORG runs), we were flying a Nile Empires fighter plane we'd hijacked (the Nile Empires being a realm of 1920s/1930s Pulp Fiction reality, so with the exception of Pulp Super-Science, the technology level was what you'd see in Indiana Jones), and were in a dogfight with two similar planes chasing us, while at the same time fighting a big bruiser of an enemy who'd gotten on our plane with us (think Shirtless-Mustache-Nazi-Who-Gets-Eaten-By-Plane-Rotors from Raiders of the Lost Ark), so our melee guys were preoccupied with that, leaving me, the token Orrorshan, to operate the plane's rotating gun dome since my Tech Axiom just barely made me compatible with them (this takes understanding of the TORG system) to fight off the enemy planes. I don't remember if I did particularly well, but in the end, it didn't matter...because suddenly, both planes did so bad on the Piloting rolls at the same time that they crashed right into each other in midair, taking themselves out of our hair.

Anyways, as I leave the gun turret I make an (out of character) remark about "Those Magnificent Men In Their Dying Machines." It was a laugh line, alright.

Pathfinder Lost Omens, Rulebook Subscriber

I come up with too many to list, but the last session of the 3.5 game I'm in, I had to resist saying the following.

"What's the difference between a horde of undead, and the 2015 Academy Award nominees? Nothing, they're all wights!"

I had Star Wars pilot called Roger William Colin Outremer but no-one got the joke.

Spoiler:
Roger, WilCo, Out (message received, will comply, end message)
