Hello, folks. I want to create a 15th level Aasimar Cavalier. All Paizo books (except ACG) and no 3rd party, as also no PFS rules enforced.
I first thought about a dragon, but I don't have suffice levels for that. Then a Griffon or a Pegasus would do, but I'm not certain how this stuff works.
I have a Leadership score of 22, which allows me a cohort of 15th level. However, I don't get how it clashes with the Cavalier's Mount class ability - does it override it or is it another creature?
Supposing it's the former: how much of the animal companion's advancements can I give to a Pegasus, as that one has an effective cohort level of 6th. Or should I just give class levels to it? How many class levels can it has?
Also, the Pegasus has no 4th/7th table advancement, while the Griffon has. However, I fear a Griffon would have less advancements, being a creature of bigger CR.
Could you guys enlighten me on this matter?

Well, first, it doesn't get anything from your Cavalier levels. No advancement whatsoever.
Your animal companion (mount) is completely separate from Leadership.
And you'd take the number of "levels" the cohort "costs", and then add the remainder on top of the base creature, adding feats and abilities as appropriate.

Gah! Oh well, I think I'll reduce myself to Monstrous Mount.
Is there a way to improve a mount's fly speed outside spells? 40 ft charges are so short...Claxon |
Have you considered not being a cavalier and instead just being any other full BAB class and just building for mounted combat? You really wont be that far behind a cavalier, and then you could take leadership (assuming your GM allowed it) to get a flying animal companion.
Fighter would work very easily.

If you take order of the beast (ACG), your mount gets Wild Mount Shape:
Wild Mount Shape (Su)
At 8th level, an order of the of the beast cavalier gains the ability to turn his mount into a different Medium or Large animal and back again once per day. His options for new forms include all creatures with the animal type. This ability functions as beast shape II, except as noted here. The effect lasts for 1 hour per cavalier level, or until the cavalier chooses to change his mount back. Changing the mount's form (to a different animal or back to normal) requires the cavalier to touch his mount as a standard action that does not provoke an attack of opportunity. The form chosen must be that of an animal the cavalier is familiar with. The mount does not change size, but does receive the bonuses (not the penalty) presented in beast shape II for the Large animal.
The cavalier can use this ability an additional time per day at 10th level and every 4 levels thereafter (to a maximum of four times per day at 18th level).
At 15th level, the cavalier can use wild mount shape to change his mount into a Medium or Large dragon. When taking this form, the cavalier's wild mount shape now functions as form of the dragon I, except as above.

There are some additional options for you in this book, along with some templates to bring the mount of your choice up to the proper CR.

You did notice he specified no 3PP right?

A cohort level of 15 means you could have a young dragon of up to CR 7. I haven't been through the entire bestiary, but a young Occult Dragon is CR 6, as is a white dragon or a nightmare dragon. You've also got Brass or Etheric at CR 7. So it seems like a Dragon is an option.
I didn't find any items to increase the speed of a mount, though.

If you go monstrous mount + mastery, the hippogriff is a bit faster than the griffon (100' charge instead of 80').
