Question about Ascetic Strike

Rules Questions

Weapon Masters Handbook wrote:

Your weapon strikes deal more damage than usual.

Prerequisites: Ascetic Form; Ascetic Style; Weapon Focus with the chosen
weapon; base attack bonus +7 or monk level 7th.

Benefit: You can use the unarmed strike damage of a monk 4 levels lower than your character level (minimum 1st) instead of the base damage for the chosen Weapon. Ascetic Strike functions in all other ways as the brawler’s close weapon masteryACG class feature. In addition, you ignore the still mind class feature prerequisite for the Monastic LegacyUC feat.

Silly question but does this apply to unarmed strikes? i don't think it does but i would like some clarification if possible.

Yes it does, assuming the weapon you chose for Ascetic Style was an Unarmed Strike. Unarmed Strike is a weapon in the monk fighter weapon group and a valid choice for Ascetic Style.

A 5th-level monk or character with the weapon training (monk) class feature can use Ascetic Style with any monk weapon, in addition to the chosen melee weapon.

So if you are a monk or get weapon training then you could have had focus in a different weapon but use the style now with all the options, fists included.

Wouldn't increased damage be the only benefit for applying the Ascetic Style line to an UAS? Three feats seems a bit much for that.

Though I could see a fighter or sohei (with their normally abridged UAS damage table) getting use out of it if they used the rule Chess Pwn cited to combine UAS with some other weapon - maybe something with reach like a kusarigama or tri-point double-edged sword?

The real benefit for taking IUS as the weapon is for a Eldritch Guardian Fighter. IUS and Ascetic Style are combat feats. Kung-fu Familiar anyone?

*imagines a raven speaking Common out of sync with how its beak moves*

Quoth: My kung-fu is stronger than yours, big one.

... And another potential PC added to the list.

The big bonus is once you reach 5th level and you picked unarmed strike as your weapon, the Weapon Focus with the chosen weapon ends up working for every monk weapon. Pick any other weapon and the focus only works with that other weapon.
