Guns?

The Additional Resources section for Ultimate Combat has me confused.

If I want to field a gun toting PC that isn't a gunslinger, what steps do I need to accomplish? Or is it just not allowed?

You must have:

Feat: Gunsmithing
Enough fame to buy the gun. (For cheap guns, under 750 gp, this can be bypassed by spending 2 PP to buy the gun.)

You will want to have:

1 rank in craft(alchemy) so bullets are affordable
Exotic Weapon Proficiency (the type of gun you want)

Hasnt the cost of bullets for non-gunslingers recently been changed in the 'Let's be clear' blog?

I'd still need the fame, not just the PP, right?

No. That is the exact same language it has always had.

If you have 1 point in craft(alchemy) you pay the crafting cost listed in the gunsmithing feat. Otherwise you have to pay full cost. In either case, you sell bullets for half what you paid, not half of market cost.

No, the 2 PP bypasses the fame requirement. That's why most people use their first 2 PP to buy a wand of cure light wounds.

Thank you very much.

Don't forget, if you are not a gunslinger, or some other class that grants deeds, you don't have quick clear, and misfires can take you out of combat very fast if you are relying on that gun.

It might be a good idea to pick up amature Gunslinger to get the quick clear deed.

Or just dip a level of gunslinger and save 3 feats. Just sayin'.

^ my Savage Technologist would not function without a 1 level dip for this reason.

Same it's always been.

My piccaroon works much better with a level of mysterious stranger.

3 feats, + free gun.

I think Jared is mistaken in one thing. Exotic Weapon Proficiency chosen for firearm grants proficiency with ALL firearms, not just one.

I was brewing up a fighter that used a gun, and man, it is really hard to justify not taking that gunslinger level.

Of course, that's now expanded into a multiclass monstrosity, combining gunslinger, weapon master fighter, unchained monk, urban bloodrager, and possibly some other class(es) after that... don't look at me like that, I needed the bonus feats!

How else am I to combine Crane Style and guns? (Rapid Reload, Point Blank, Precise, Rapid, Deadly Aim, Dodge, Mobility, Deft Shootist, Improved Unarmed, Crane Style... by level 7.) For my next trick: fitting in Improved Snap Shot and Combat Reflexes.

3 levels Warpriest?

Yknow, I was just thinking I'd like to shore up that Will save...
Weapon Focus as a bonus feat, fast buffs from fervor, another bonus feat at 3... If it didn't drop a BAB it'd be perfect, not that the BAB drop is a huge deal...

But I still need Clustered Shots. Sigh...

You really don't, since you'll generally be carrying 16 types of ammunition already.

Slight correction, Gunsmithing is split on ammunition. You can do standard bullets with Gunsmithing, Alchemical Cartridges require Craft(Alchemy).

Additional Resources is just confusing because of comma usage:

Additional Resources wrote:
Rather, it allows the purchase of bullets, pellets, black powder, and alchemical cartridges (with 1 rank in Craft [alchemy])

Which is parsed [bullets, pellets, blackpowder], and [alchemical cartridges (w/Craft(Alchemy)]

But you still need Gunsmithing.

Good catch.

Also, Steamwalker, good catch earlier on the EWP. I forgot that it was an exception to the normal rules.
