Light Spells in PFS

Rules Questions

Liberty's Edge

Hello All-
Is it possible to have Continual Flame, or some similar permanent light spell, cast on an item in PFS that can be carried from scenario to scenario? If so,how much would it cost & can you use prestige to pay for it?
Thanks In Advance

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Continual Flame is one of the few spells that can carry over from scenario to scenario. You can pay for the casting and material components, which is 60 GP for the casting and 50 GP for the material component, or you can buy an ioun torch or everburning torch for less than that.

The best way to use this however is to have a teammate cast the spell for you, ideally as a heightened continual flame, so that it's higher caster level trumps deeper darkness.

EDIT - Actually, double checking it looks like the everburning torch is 110 GP, same as the spellcasting cost, not 100 GP that I thought it was. Regardless, an Ioun torch is 75 GP, and doesn't require a hand to carry, and is generally a much better investment.

Also, you can use 1 prestige to buy either the everburning torch or the Ioun torch, as they both cost less than 150 GP. You should also be able to use it to purchase spellcasting services to have it cast on another item, although it's not 100% spelled out that this is allowed. It merely states a purchase of up to 150 GP, which should include spellcasting services, but you may see table variation.

How much does the heightened version of Continual Flame cost? I think that would be epic to counteract deeper darkness.

Also, if it does carry over between scenarios, do I need a special notation from the GM running the game on my tracking or chronicle sheet?

Thanks Thrane! I really appreciate the help.

You need a special notation on the chronical sheet if another character casts the spell that you provide the material components for.

What if I just have it done at a temple or something?

Also, can it simply be dispelled?

I aplogize if the last two questions are rather simple. I know absolutley nothing about spells.

Thanks!

You cannot hire an NPC to cast a metamagiced spell. You have to get another PC to do it.

And yes, it can be dispelled, requiring you to get another one if you want it (and if you can get it).

They can also be stolen as happening to mine in Bonekeep 3.
