Help me decide on my new character...

Advice

Hi all,

I ran In Service to Lore again last night, so I've got a new PFS character to make (my -9, if anyone's keeping score). Since almost all of my active characters are human (and gaijin), I thought I'd take advantage of this seasons new choices and make something Tien.

So flicking through the Dragon Empires Gazeteer, and Kinsune, Nagaji, Wayangs, and Tengu all look pretty cool.

Nagaji look tailor-made to be bloodragers, and I've read here before (and agree) that, as small characters with no Strength penalty, Wayangs make nifty cavaliers. I can't see at a glance which classes go well with the other two. So what should I make?

Nagaji Bloodrager? What archetype?

Wayang Cavalier? Again what archetype?

Kinsune ???

Tengu ???

How about a kitsune ninja?
If you want a nicely eastern character using a samurai instead of cavalier would be climatic.

Kitsune can be pretty potent with the Vulpine Pounce feat. Even though they have a penalty to Strength, Slashing Grace has made melee builds much more accessible for Dex-focused characters.
I'm personally tickled by the prospect of a Kitsune Paladin that takes the Magical Tail feats. Though trying to play a "Tickster Paladin" might raise a few eyebrows at your table.

A Wayang Scimitar Magus riding a Mauler Hawk familiar at level 3 looks like it could be fun. Maybe a Thrush, Raven, or Rhamphorhynchus instead.

Thanks!

Ninja fits pretty well, I don't know why I didn't think of that. Definitely a possibility. It would be a good fit for Tengu too, if there is any way to get Wis to ki, but it does not seem that there is (unless someone knows otherwise).

For the cavalier, I was thinking about making him from Amanandor. Since either is playing against type, I thought I might as well go the whole hog and give him a full-on Taldan attitude.

Someone I know abused the Tengus weapon proficiency completely and churned out a first level fighter monstrosity that was duel wielding in a terrifying manner. Fighter was for the bonus feat, otherwise it would have been barbarian. I was sworn to secrecy on the exact build though.

Well, a tengu Hunter can be fun. They have prof with the Elven Curved Blade and a dex boost. Toss on animal focus for even higher dex or str and a flank buddy to take advantage of Outflank (specifically, the if you crit, hand flank buddy another attack part)

Wayang, I am also working on a shadow caster Arcanist who has roughly a +17 to stealth at level 1.

Kitsune, I am working out an idea of swash 1/ninja x focusing on the tail feats and using dex for a katana. Gives a panache pool and a ki pool for multiple combat options. Tails for extra fluffyness and RP.

Nagaji is the only one I have not put too much effort into yet. Basic idea at this point is a spell eater bloodrager with arcane bloodline. Basically an anti mage tank.

Kitsune enchantment sorcerer all the way. They get major bonuses.

Kitsune Bard!

I already have a PFS sorcerer, plus I am playing one in Kingmaker, so while it is a good fit I am going to skip that one. I don't have a Bard though (at least not in Pathfinder; my 4e Bard is awesome but rather different). So that goes on the shortlist.

Hunter is interesting, although I I'm not sure about curveblades (nothing wrong with them mechanically, I just find them kinda silly).

Silver Crusade

Kitsune ninja. Ninjas are awesome.

Elven Curved Blade has many advantages when you are a tengu hunter.

You have the proficiency to use it as a tengu
2h weapon, so you get 1.5 STR
Finesse weapon, as a race that gets a dex boost
18-20 crit range, only 2hand that gets it, very important for outflank tricks
1d10 damage, improves to 2d8 with lead blades, much better then the next option, scimitar

It is a weirder looking weapon (described as a big scimitar in the book), but you are already a human with a beak, so it is probally not the weirdest thing about your character. My tengu hunt decided to embrace the weird and uses the blade and his beak, runs around in darkleaf armor with a mini raptor and a hawk familiar.

Yeah, but that's the weird things about it. It's basically a finesseable greatsword, in a system that otherwise put harsh limits on what weapons are finessable. Why is it finesseable; because it says "elven" in the name, and elves are better than you. Also, if I've got enough Strength that 1.5x the bonus is of use then I'm probably not using finesse anyway. Still, the other advantages you list that I snipped are pretty compelling, and as a Tengu I get to say "screw you, elves", so there will be a Tengu Hunter with a curveblade somehere in my not-too-distant future. And a Kitsune Bard and a Wayang Cavalier.

But first, I have decided to go for a Nagaji Bloodrager. For stats I am thinking of going:

Str 15(17) Dex 11 Con 13 Int 12(10) Wis 12 Cha 14(16)

EDIT: Bloodline probably Arcane.

Feat will most likely be Power Attack. Dunno yet about gear or archetypes. Any comments?
