So my item has a doppelganger the executed the idea very differently then I did but had the same core mechanical concept and theme. Is it weird I kind of want it to make top 100 wiht me so we can see who did it better?

Yep, that one really popped for me as well!

I hope that when the critique threads are opened, that the designer of that one comes forth, so we can properly congratulate them on an idea well executed, even if it didn't make the cull, or the 32.

There have been enough mistakes and misprints for me to mistrust the list a small amount. It was comforting to see it there, but I was concerned that some people may have put in the first items they saw post-cull when starting the votes back up. Since they are always the last items left when you stop voting for a time, some items that didn't make the cut may have gotten through on the list.

To sum up: Seeing the item on the list was comforting; seeing it for real post-cull is exhilarating! :D

EDIT: and thanks!

Also, according to the list, my item survived the Cull. So Yay Me!

I really like the combination of effects on this weapon, but what the author doesn't realize is he basically is not only using a 4th level spell effect, but also adding a quickened 1st level spell at CL 9ish on top of it.

I give it a grudging upvote, because the other item only works for one class.

"The swords, each with edges so sharp they could cut the fabric of reality itself, met each other with a cacophonous roar. The reality-altering sharpness of two such blades meeting in one place was too much for time and space to bear, and the universe was divided by zero. From the resulting void-chasm spewed forth innumerable shields with arms, tentacles, and suckers. Each of which attempted to wrest the weapons away from the combatants before all of creation was undone."

Now that we've had the cull, I've had to re-evaluate how I look at some of the items that have made it through that I originally didn't not care for. There is at least one item that I regularly did not vote for because I did not truly understand the depth of it and the subtly, I'm glad it made it and I honestly think I'll see it in the Top 32. I had not believed that originally. It's kind of cool.

"Torag and Kronk had met in combat as equals once before, each surving the battle with minor wounds and fractured pride. Today however, confusion flowed more freely than blood, and questions.. and warriors, both hung in the air.

Each had paid handsome sums of gold, women, and slaves for their Earthbreaker hammers. Both weapons were made by different shamans, and each had the power to slam the earth with such tremendous force, gravity would not survive intact.

When the rival chieftains met, each charged forward and slammed their golden filigreed weapon into the dry and cracked earth they battled over. When the dust cleared, each was suspended in the air, cursing the like-minded shamans of their tribes.

I adore this feeling. Some of my favorite items so far have been surprisingly in just how carefully and subtly they slipped into both rules and descriptions. I was really worried about whether or not they would survive the cull, but it looks like enough people have been appreciating them the same way that I have. I'm always curious which items have other people thinking this way as well.

Like the [Redacted] that did [Redacted] using [Redacted], but with [Redacted] [Redacted]. I was sure that there was no way it was balanced that it was [Redacted]. But I thought about it, and actually felt the need to break out a spreadsheet and do some math across [Redacted] [Redacted], and it is now one of my favorite items in the competition. Kudos unnamed designer, you deserve a good deal of praise for thinking that up.

I am disheartened to say that one of the items that clearly does not understand the power it is working with still made it through the cull. *sigh*

I am surprised to see that one wondrous item made it through and not the one I expected to see.

All in all, I never know what the Top 32 to will be, I'm a terrible judge of this kind of insight.

The thing I'm saddest about missing was getting a chance to see the item with the really long name. Would it be possible for someone to PM me the text of that one, or is that against the rules?

PMing stats is not against the rules, but it wasn't a very popular item. No one may have the actual stats. Would you settle for the name?

Is it weird that even if I do not make top 32 or top 100 it would soften the blow significantly if I made a few of my favorite poster's top 32 lists?

It's not weird at all. I'm certain you made my list if anyone did. I have to mimic Feros, here as well. I'm a little embarrassed that my opinion merits mentioning. That being said, I definitely understand the feeling. I'm dying to know what people thought of my item. I'm looking forward to the critique threads so much, for so many reasons. Both because I know I can improve and want to know how, and because I want to tell everyone who got close just how much I enjoyed their ideas/execution, and what they might tweak to get right over that edge next time. I'm hoping that everyone does the same for me, and I can only hope that they do so honestly and brutally. It might be an odd byproduct of a life riddled with odd and bad luck, but I genuinely enjoy a certain degree of failure. It lets me know what needs improving, where it needs improving, and keeps me focused. It leads to me being minorly anxious at times, but it keeps the march of progress unrelenting. Stagnation and surrender are the only true failures, as any job done well will leave me better able to do that job the next time it comes about.
