Good Society-legal support builds

Advice

Lantern Lodge

Parameters:

-20 pt buy
-Ability to reliably heal/status remove and/or buff
-100% Society legal with respect to race, archetype, etc.

I'm leaning towards Cleric or Life Oracle. Any ideas, guys?

Liberty's Edge

Half elf Life Oracle, FCB to boost channel. Even with the "nerfed" Paragon Surge you can save precious spell slots for situational Remove/Restoration spells by grabbing Expanded Arcana.

Evangelist Archetype Cleric is a buffing machine.

Bard with Flagbearer Feat and Banner of Ancient Kings can be a party buffing godsend while also being a great combatant. Works best with Angel Kin Aasimar to grab stats and the FCB. Can heal with some spells or just use a wand.

Silver Crusade

I am going a support build as well. He plans on being very charisma focused. I will show you mine and see if you can draw any inspiration from it.

Aasimar Paladin 2/Lore Oracle 1/Bard 8 (favored class bonus on Inspired Courage)

Goal is to maximize bard with banner of the ancient king (like above) but be the face with insane charisma score (9 modifier by end the end of society) and having that charisma score apply to initiative, ac and reflex. you would also be looking at +5 inspire courage. Another great item for the build is circlet of persuasion.

Half Elf Lore Oracle.

Use the human FCB to add extra spells known to your list and Paragon Surge to use any particularly niche spells you need from time to time.

Use Focused Trance to pretty much auto succeed at any knowledge check going.

Be dual cursed to make use of Misfortune. Remember you can use it on yourself or your allies if you roll poorly.

What is the consensus on Healing Domain? What about an old vanilla Cleric of Desna w/ Luck and Travel/Liberation domain?

Those are both fine options. One of the nice things about PFS is that you don't need to make very complex or multi-book builds to contribute effectively.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

For something with healing, status removal and a solid buff/support role you could consider something like an Evangelist archetype Cleric with the Glory (Heroism) subdomain, built as a Reach Cleric. You get Inspire Courage, Aura of Heroism, the full set of Cleric spells and the ability to contribute in melee at the same time. You're basically a buffer Bard with full Cleric casting.

To add a cherry on top, consider a deity who offers either a Lawful Good or Chaotic Good Aura to take advantage of Sacred Summons for standard action summoning. Iomedae is the obvious choice, but depending on GM you could get others.

Silver Crusade

Here are some Evangelist Cleric options, should you wish to investigate that option.

Any other ideas besides Cleric/Oracle?

Silver Crusade

Bard!

A CRB Bard is a *great* choice for a Society play. Never underestimate how useful Knowledges and social skills are in PFS. And Inspire Courage is always great. Plus spellcasting. You're an asset to any team.

You won't be as good at status removal as a Cleric or Oracle, but you can help.

Quick Archer Bard build. I've got this guy waiting on my list of to-play characters. Would also work well as a Human (maybe better, but I'm in the mood for playing a halfling so that's how this guy got planned).

Halfling Archer Bard

07 Arcane Strike
08 +1 Cha [= 16]
09 Deadly Aim
10 Versatile Performance: Dance (Acrobatics, Fly)
11 Manyshot

Cantrips: detect magic, prestidigitation, message, open/close, ghost sound, dancing lights

1st Level: silent image, grease, cure light wounds, charm person, vanish, saving finale

2nd Level: alter self, glitterdust, mirror image, heroism, invisibility

3rd Level: haste, confusion, good hope, dispel magic

4th Level: dimension door, freedom of movement, heroic finale

"HEY!!! Ah resent tha' remark! Jus' cause ah'm a cleric o' Lady Luck, and jus' cause ah benefit mos'ly from 'er blessin's grantin' makin' me lucky, an' makin' me better at gettin' 'round, that don' make me 'vanilla'!"

If you go with Cleric, the Varisien Pilgrim archetype has some interesting options: you can give allies your domain abilities.

Cavalier is a good martial support character, especially with the Order of the Dragon. (I have a Halfling Honor Guard cavalier with Blundering Defense and Bodyguard. She's an AC buffer who can increase an ally's AC up to 11 points against a single attack.)

Bards of course are the original support build, and probably still the best overall. Bard/Cavalier is a nice combo, and it's a good lead-in to Battle Herald if you want to go that router.

The Monk Sensei archetype is nice, also, but it doesn't get really cool until 6th level when you can start loaning out your ki powers.
