GM DFang |
Hey guys,
I'm relatively new to the game (~3months), and this is my first d20 game too. That didn't stop me from being inspired enough to run my own adventure though. So now I'm thinking to give it a shot in PbP first. Depending on my load by the time I finish the first arc of the story, I may need a co-GM to run the second group of companions though.
But enough with that; let me show you what I got and feel free to send me some feedback. If I can gather enough interest, then I'll put up the official recruitment thread as soon as I can where you can post your character concepts.
EDIT: I'll probably go with anything Paizo with no 3PP. Gunslingers won't have advanced weapons to choose from, and will be limited to one for either group due to scarcity of ammunition.

INTRODUCTION
--------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ever since Asmodeus killed his brother Ihys, the other gods are always wary despite the peace they've had since the War of Heaven. They all agree on one thing however, a conflict directly involving the gods would destroy all of creation.
Now, their peace hang by a thread as the rift between order and chaos rage once again. Already, parts of the universe have distorted and threads of time merged. Gods who stand between finally intervened and proposed to let their creations battle in their stead. These neutral gods have spent the next decade designing the battle ground while the other gods plan and scheme their way to victory. And so, people and creatures of all ages have been disappearing from across the land over the years where they sleep in the Void until they have been called by the Neutrals. Blessed or cursed, willing or not, they will represent the gods in the final clash between Order and Chaos. But first, they must prove themselves worthy to reach the final arena or die trying...
- campaign story in progress -
You have been chosen by a god to represent him or her. Select one Lawful or Chaotic god to represent and your backstory must explain why you have been chosen and how they convinced/forced you to accept. Neutral gods cannot be selected. These gods may range from Good to Evil. No two characters will represent the same god in the final party.
You know your god is part of an alliance who plans to put together a small team of heroes (or villains) to lead the others. They drop you in a unknown world where you will eventually meet the other candidates. Together, you must find a place called The Pantheon of Ages where the final clash will take place. The only clue you are given is a small smooth spherical orb and a warning:
"We will do what we can to make sure you reach the Pantheon but know that the other side will also do everything they can to prevent you from reaching that place. Your only objective is this: Find the others and get to the Pantheon."
Core Ideas ATM:
- Two groups of 4-6 companions to represent Order and Chaos.
- Fast paced. Level-up after every 2-3 encounters/challenges.
- Mythic Ascension by level 5 or higher, individual or sub-group trials (depending on patron deities).
- No two PCs can take the same Mythic Path within their group.
- Death is final. No replacements. Only the survivors will battle the other group in the Pantheon.
- The two groups will tangent each other a few times, whether they know it or not.
- Ascension opportunity will not be declared. I will design the trial/challenge according to your backstory and patron deity, then present you clues on how to find it as the story progresses. If you miss it, then you'll approach the final battle as a non-mythic PC. It will always be tied to your deity's principles.
Ascension Opportunity Example
Patron Deity: Iomedae.
Final Clue: In a flash of light, a bright object falls from the sky into the plateau where a horde of undead will soon charge through to get to the fort you now stand in, a devourer clearly leading the charge. Even from afar, you realize that the fallen object is a large sword whose guard forms a golden starburst, shining in holy light. All your companions are below, frantically arranging the defense of the fort, and you only have a few seconds to decide before the horde overruns the plateau ahead of you reaching the blade. What will you do?

@Sacraz: No, you don't have to be a divine class. Your patron deity just needs to have a reason to choose you.
e.g. prowess in battle, having similar personality and portraying the deity's principle the most in your generation, or simply having a time in your life where you have completely surrendered yourself in faith to him/her.

I am very excited about this.
Olli Lahti, a child prodigy of magic, strives to perfect himself in the connection to the magical forces of all kinds. In a month-long meditation Irori called upon the savant. An opportunity to perfect oneself through diligent practice in Irori's name.
I plan for Olli to be a mystic thurge. Haven't decided the classes used as the prerequisites.
This is the first time I have tried to do PbP. So, any advice about using the actual forum while seeking PbP-employment and participation would be appreciated. You can just message me.

Hmm If the Lawful side ends up mostly good, I have a samurai(stranded)\hellknight idea I wouldn't mind trying out. Serving Asmodeous, wether openly or in disguise to begin with..
Otherwise, I always like to see the less popular dieties represented. a slightly altered Monk(Zen Archer) of Kurgess? That is one you don't see often. A big burly wrestler guy that rapid fires javelins.

Hmmm... I wouldn't mind having Evil in the mix on either side, just as long as there's no backstabbing. Internal conflicts of ideals adds flavor to the story, but spoilers are different IMHO.
So far I'm counting 7 posters of interest. If I get 10 or more over the weekend, you can expect to see the recruitment page Monday next week. :)
@Tsiron: The alignment is Chaotic for a good reason then :)
@Drako: There are various guides in the Paizo messageboards, but here is the one I started with: DH's Guide to Play-by-Post
@Doomguide: Yeah, a lot of gods in the pantheons go unnoticed so I'm giving them a chance to be discovered here. Feel free to grab those unknown. :)
@Stiehl: Yep, starting level would be 1. Horus is cool, almost a direct import from Egyptian mythology.

The DH's guide is super helpful. Thank you very much. I can't wait to employ it. I don't know how to make the aliases he talks about.
I also don't know how the application process works. How to make aliases. What is the system for making character sheets (I think it's based on the DM, no?). How does dice rolling work? Are campaigns private? Or just private to post on, or something?
I hope I am not bothering anyone by posting these questions here and not in a more appropriate forum, or just find a forum that has all these questions. Sometimes a little difficult to navigate to find the exact answer I want.
Bobbity |
Probably have to let the DM answer most of those questions but you can make aliases from your account page and if you click on that you can add a profile which will have all the pertinent information about the character. Just check out some of my aliases if you need a reference. Dice rolling is in the forum. At the bottom of the page it says "how to format your text". Check there for dice.
As for my character I present Bobbity Ormsby Mordecai Boram, CE Halfling alchemist. I know the picture is a goblin but none of the Halfling avatars look crazy enough. He is Joker-esque in that he doesn't remember his own story, has a high-pitched voice, and is b@~@*+& crazy. Favors death, destruction and pain. The perfect champion for chaos. Just need to find a god and do a crunch. I'll get on that later today. Might even take Tsiron's idea for Rovagug. Or maybe Azathoth an Outer God.
"Book Wyrm" |
I appreciate all the help and the patients that anyone is willing to give me. I was posting as Drako, but I am modeling after Bobbity.
Half-elf Universalist. Planning on taking Cleric levels under Irori. Alternate between each class every level. Irori has shown him so much, it would be a dishonor to not serve him. Expand in the depth of knowledge and Magic. Knowledge and Rune domains.

@Drako/Book Wyrm: Here's one of GM DFang's aliases for reference. What I did was use a 3rd Party Program (PC Gen in my case) to create a character and export it in stat block template. Then I copy-paste it to my profile and add the in-site formatting for easier viewing. I believe it's my best alias so far since I've been experimenting with my other aliases but this one is the easiest to navigate by far.
Overall though, I'm not very strict with the exact format, as long as all the information is there. For this adventure though, you will need to manually add some details regarding your patron deity since the regular exported stat block format does not normally include that option.
