We're four characters who play at the boards, and our group just finished Book 1 of Way of the Wicked. Unfortunately, our GM is also a player in a WotW campaign, and since his group is at book 2, if he is forced to GM it for us it will spoil his fun as a player. So, we are seeking a new one.
A little bit about our group:
Anything else, just ask. Thanks.

Hey, I know you guys are pretty focused on getting a GM right now, but I've been working on a couple of evil arcane characters. When you get the GM business settled are you going to do the recruitment here or in a new thread? I was hoping to wait until you got the GM before asking but its been almost a month since this thread opened.

@Vlad - Both. I was introduced to Pathfinder this Spring, and found pbp's shortly thereafter. I am GMing two games, none on pbp yet. I am participating in a pbp game. I catch on very quick and studied the game rules and materials rather obsessively for about three months now... I am a bit nervous at this, but I feel like I could help out if you guys are sick of waiting.

Cool, if you could either have the original GM or one of you give me a basic synopsis of your group's choices, major NPC characterization and relationships in order for me to make it as seamless as possible.
What I would also like to do is implement Laying to Waste's critical rules into a campaign which can add a lot of fun and roleplaying opportunities.

Like he said, just finished first book.. Balentyne is burnt to the ground, Fireaxe's hoard has destroyed the town.. We have some house rules initiated by previous GM's, but nothing to serious..
I sent a message to our previous GM.. Hopefully he'll contact you.. Are there any other specific questions?

Here's a Link to the Campaign if you wish to do some reading.. We haven't had to much talking done with the major baddie npc's.. More or less still in the "Here's your Mission, go do it stage".. Our group is pretty heavy on the pipe hitting.. We took Balentyne in like a week, basically just removing as many major threats as possible the first week and then just stormed the fort and systematically destroyed it.. It was hard fought..
My guy is heading towards Vampire, but has a modified template based of the Moroi vampire.. He also has an Imp fiendish boon as it made sense for the campaign.. His other 2 houserules are his touch of curruption can heal him like a paladins because negative energy heals him as a Dhampir. He has a modified version of the Oath of Vengeance archetype and has an evil reflavored version of the spell Hero's Defiance as well..

Fair enough. I have asked the GM some questions and he was helpful. Could each of you tell me what your relationship with the Cardinal is because he said he took over after your dealings with him.
I do have good news, I do own the PDFs for the entire campaign so as long as I stay interested I can run the game. In addition, I would like to step up the grit by adding Laying to Waste's critical rules to this game. Which has more pluses than minuses
Laying to Waste
These are the basic tenets to the Laying Waste system.
The changes are significant but easy to learn and memorize.
Each of these basic tenets will be explained in
greater detail below.
• Critical threats now do maximum base damage,
and are called critical hits, regardless of whether
or not you “confirmed.”
• Critical confirmation rolls have been removed,
replaced by a severity check to add effects to
your critical hits. Combatants must achieve at
least a DC 20 on a severity check in order to
gain a critical effect.
• Criticals can give the target light, moderate, or
severe wound effects, or even extra bonus damage,
based primarily on the skill of the attacker
(and other factors).
• Targets gain a save against debilitating effects,
though if they do save successfully they trade
the hindering effect for extra damage instead.
You now cannot lose life or limb without failing
a save.
CRITICAL THREATS
When a critical threat is rolled, the damage is maximized,
and it is called a critical hit. The critical hit
severity is then resolved to determine whether or not
the critical hit has a critical effect.
SEVERITY CHECKS
This is accomplished by rolling a d20 and adding the
weapons critical modifier and the excess amount that
the attack beat your target’s armor class by, adding
any additional modifiers and comparing that number
to the severity DCs (DC 20, 30, and 40 respectively).
Any wound done to an opponent can hinder them
and weaken them, making them easier to defeat.
Higher level and more skilled opponents have the capacity
to deal truly deadly critical hits.
SEVERITY CHECK
Roll Critical Hit Type
DC <20 Minor Critical: Max damage, No Additional
Effect
DC 20-29 Light Critical: Max Damage, Light
Wound Effect
DC 30-39 Moderate Critical: Max Damage, Moderate
Wound Effect
DC 40+ Severe Critical: Max Damage, Severe
Wound Effect
In essence, threats are now no longer anticlimactic
if they do not confirm, and the sometimes massive
amounts of damage done on critical hits is replaced
with realistic debuffs that hinder or possibly even kill
opponents.MODIFIERS
Modifiers to severity now include skill, something
completely missing from most critical hit systems.
With Laying Waste, the skill of the attacker, the viciousness
of the weapon, the size of the opponent
-- and possibly luck, all have a factor.
CRITICAL MODIFIER
x2: +0 bonus
x3: +4 bonus
x4: +8 bonus
x5: +12 bonus
Weapons that do devastating amounts of damage on
a critical hit (such as a scythe) are more likely to do
more severe critical hits in this system, though they
still have a smaller threat range and deal critical hits
less often.
ATTACK ROLL
Add the amount the attack roll exceeds the target’s armor
class to the severity check.Skill is a major factor in
determining the severity of a critical hit. A 20th level
Fighter/Sword Savant has a much greater chance of
dealing severe criticals than a 5th level Fighter. Along
the same lines, a frost giant has much more wicked
critical hits than a typical orc Warrior.
SIZE DIFFERENCE
The difference in size between opponents also has a
factor in the severity of critical hits. Add a bonus to
the severity check when you are a size category larger
than your target, and subtract a penalty when your
target is larger than you.
SIZE DIFFERENCE
One Size Category: +/-2
Two Size Categories: +/-4
Three Size Categories: +/-6
Four Size Categories: +/-8A pixie with a tiny
rapier might sting, but a giant with an axe is truly to
be feared.
Critical Effects
In addition to the possibility of extra damage, most
attacks will subject an opponent to a hindering effect.
The target is allowed to make an appropriate saving
throw to avoid the affect. Save types are listed and
the DC’s are always the same, based on the severity of
the critical hit (either DC 20, 25, or 30).
SAVING THROWS
Light DC 20
Moderate DC 25
Severe DC 30
Should you succeed in your saving throw to avoid
the additional effect, you will sometimes instead take
bonus damage. This could mean that it would be
possible for you to take bonus damage multiple times
for the same critical hit.
Bonus Damage
If a critical effect has the term bonus damage, it means
to add a number of bonus damage dice to the critical
damage, based on the critical modifier of the weapon.
Do not simply double the maximized damage as
before. Also, there is no save against bonus damage.
The saving throws do not change the fact that a player
is afflicted by a critical hit. The saves merely allow
the player to avoid the hindering effects, in essence
trading them for additional damage.
Bonus Damage
x2 2d6
x3 3d6
x4 4d6
x5 5d6
Bonus damage is unilateral. It doesn’t matter if your
weapon is giant sized or tiny, bonus damage is calcu
lated the same regardless of size.
So basically, you roll your attack then you get maximum base damage and then you roll a DC20, 30 or 40, then you roll a 1d100 for the effect. The enemy gets a Saving Throw but in that case you get to inflict extra damage.
In addition, I want to use Critical Fumbles.
Fumbles are part and parcel to many game systems,
especially the d20 system. It is amazing to think that
you have a 1 in 20 chance of royally messing up your
attack, and your odds of fumbling actually increase as
you level up and gain more attacks per round.
In Laying Waste, a natural 1 is treated as a fumble, but
players are allowed a variety of ways to avoid the ill
effects. These become easier to avoid as one becomes
more experienced. Regardless though, it is possible
to still fumble, even with a very high level character.
When a character fumbles on an attack roll, they roll
for a fumble effect. Based on the effect, there is a save
of some degree to avoid the affect. The save rewards
more experienced characters, allowing them a greater
chance to avoid the ill effects of a fumble.
FUMBLE MECHANICS
Anytime a character rolls a natural 1 when using a
weapon, they have the possibility to fumble their attack.
Fumbles are severe mishaps that can cause great consternation
to combatants and possibly change the
course of the battle completely.
In any case, the fumbling character gains a saving
throw to avoid the effects. If the fumbling character
passes the saving throw, they instead simply miss, but
do not suffer any additional ill effects.
FUMBLE DC’S
You might notice that the DC’s to recover from fumbles
do not necessarily match the DC’s for other actions.
This is purposeful, and please use the fumble
DC’s as listed (base 20). The DC’s listed are in response
to a specific severity due to the fumble, not
the action itself.
For instance, fixing a broken weapon or healing bleed
damage might only need a DC 15 check per the core
rules. However, because of the unique situation, the
DC’s have been increased.
So when you roll a natural 1, roll me 1d100 and then give me a saving throw roll. Any questions?

For the most part I can handle more than one post a day.. The more you guys post, the more I want to post. because it keeps me interested.
I had to stop a game about a month ago because I had to ask "What do you guys want to do" way too many times. There are times where I will be busy or traveling but that is normal. The last two weeks I was on vacation and I was able to maintain a pretty decent standard.
If you want me to email you the pdf for those rules I can.

I don't forsee the group having an issue runnign with a task once it;s given.. We have a tendency to get a bit ancy when no combat is had for awhile, but what evil doers dont?
I personally dont have any issues with the crit chart.. Can you link where the rules come from? Or send me the pdf?
As far as relationship with the Cardinal I personally didn't speak to him much.. I was however very flirtacious with Triadora, although she mostly shot him down lol..
He rewarded us well for sacking Balentyne so fast, just over a weeks time i believe, but im not sure if it was anymore than what the module called for lol.. I did get some badass gear off the paladin though..
Feel free to look through my profile.. I have my house ruled changes lined out pretty well in there.. Any questions feel free to ask..
Eryan Duskwalker |
We voted and you're in with a majority vote :)
Eryan wasn't as in with the Cardinal as some others but he has pledged as heartily to the cause as any. If you read the backstory in my profile you will see that a big part of what I have been and will continue roleplaying is being possessed slightly.
Also Sir Balin who we killed in the first book was the one who had captured my father and killed my mother. They were outcasts and had been forced to flee south and hide or be killed. They were still typical evil drow and thus hunted even by Talinguarde.
So when we found Sir Balin and defeated him, Eryan actually healed him to consciousness to ask him if his father was still alive before killing him properly this time. First GM said he was sent to the salt mines and is now dead. But who knows. He might be a hardy drow that could make a reappearance at some point down the line to teach Eryan something.
I am planning to have the spirits possessing me lead me towards becoming a Lich and I reckon it would be awesome if Eryan's father helped him in the rituals because he too seeks revenge through his son who will become far more powerful.
