Pistolero Gunslinger Questions

Rules Questions

Silver Crusade

I've a question about this arch type. When you hit level 5 under the Pistolero you gain a bonus on damage equal to your Dex Mod and under Gunslinger you get at 5th level Gun Training which adds damage from dex mod. so do they stack and if they stack does the misfire increase of 2 stack, since each gives that if you misfire?

Errata removed Gun Training from Pistolero

Go back and re-read the pistol training text. Take heed of the last line where it states 'This replaces gun training 1 to 4'.

He could just have an old printing, you know. In which case, no matter how many times he re-reads it, those words won't be there.

Sending him to the errata file, however, will fix the problem.

Silver Crusade

Sorry I must have an old copy since it doesn't list "This replaces gun training 1 to 4". So thought I'd check here since it looked a bit OP.

Fair enough. I've only ever seen the current version so I wasn't aware it was an erratum.

Even without errata it was crystal clear they were the same ability and wouldn't stack.

I'm... not touching that one.

You just did. Congrats on your passive-aggression.

I was so clear that people were dared to build that character because when errata came down they would have a dead character with no way to rebuild or fix.

That's a whole other thread (actually, several extensive threads have already been made).

Like... how? What difference does it make at character building if you don't get two times DEX instead of once to your damage that it kills your character? At worst it hits your DPS hard (about 20-35%), but it doesn't remove on change your abilities that much that your character is forever ruined. Unlike, say, the crane wing nerf.

Silver Crusade

I'm considering building that arch type so are you saying that arch-type is no more also?

The death comes from paraphrased "we told you not to take it, so you die because you took it."

No, that isn't what he is saying. Pistolero the archetype still exists. It lost Gun Training in errata and only has Pistol Training.

He is referring to the rules in PFS for rebuilding characters when a rules change occurs.

Silver Crusade

Ah ok. Cool then I can still take this arch-type. It's still a good damage out-put arch-type.

Yes you can take it and only get Dex to damage once. I was just saying that PFS leadership said the intent was so clear that they essentially dared you to do it in PFS because if you did and the errata came out your character would be permanently dead at that point and no way to recover.

Silver Crusade

I would think the retraining book would be able to be used or the retraining boon if you have either would allow that character to be retrained and be fixed if the errata did that to him wouldn't it?

I don't think anyone thought it worked or should have worked, but some people asserted it is "RAW" and were building characters.

It came down that anyone building these characters needed to retrain away, because when the Errata does get published you would no longer be able to retrain it.

Basically a paraphrased "I dare you to use it and retrain out of it before the Errata lands." A game of chicken.

James, I believe you are thinking of the Pistolero/Mysterious Stranger combo. That was what they said could not be rebuilt.

Also I personally know people who ran the pistolero with double dex, so it was definitely a thing at least briefly

I thought there were more than one way to build it to get double dex by ignoring that Pistol Training and Gun Training were clearly the same ability and mutually exclusive.

Thank you, i was confused when reading this thread but now when you mentioned that characters were buit by using 2 archetypes that with errata replace 1 feature it makes sense now.
