Will they have a bit more functionality then the Paizo-forums? :)

Like not having to add our own tags, choice of a lot more tags(like bulletlists), signatures and the possibility of images in our posts and off course, animated smilies like ?

I can understand why Paizo chooses for such barebone functionality, and I also understand that allowing images in posts is opening up the floodgates for funny, intended to be funny, not so funny, rude and downright nasty images, so I am guessing I will get a resounding "No" from Ryan/GW for that.

But what about those automated tags, bulletlists, signatures and (animated)smilies? Do not forget the power of animated smilies, like  and  and :rude:(oh wait, not that one) in order to create a jovial atmosphere!

Goblin Squad Member

Not sure about the rest, but do you mean a different kind of bulletlist from

  • This
  • kind
  • of
  • bulletlist?

Goblin Squad Member

That is the sort of bullet list I mean! Options like that, but then more automated so that you do not have to write down the tags yourself.

A forum like this: Lots of functionality when making a new post.

All I get is a login screen, and it's not accepting my password.

Worst.

Forum.

Ever.

Goblin Squad Member

Lol, I knew that was going to happen, sorry. I clicked New Post on my own forum, and then copy/pasted the link here. Yeah, that's not going to work.....

But you know, the forums that have a bar at the top when you make a new post with lots of buttons to click, insert this, that, formats, fonts, styles, lists, smilies and so forth.

Goblin Squad Member

I really hope we get some of those!

Like all things Goblinworks - they'll be implemented at the minimum viable level, then Crowdforged.

I'd hate to see the toilets at the office then.

Shush. We'll give them those after Mammoth Riders enter the game.

Oh, please spare us from signatures-that-can't-be-suppressed.

I'd like to see small sigs,500x100 perhaps, but nothing the size of a page flashing in a psychedelic manner. Those are just stupid.

Goblin Squad Member

Crowdforging every little bit of functionality of a forum like "can we have different fonts?", I hope not. I could see a crowdforging poll for "images in a post" *maybe* but I would think this sort of thing would be simply at GW's control, just as the rules for sigs(size, no animations) would be.

Or is it really expensive to use forums that look like this when you make a new post? Bells and Whistles

Guildlaunch.com is providing forums like these even in their free package, though you have to endure adds then, so that could offset the costs, I guess. If forums like that are much more expensive to use then I understand the crowdforging comment better since it is all about priority of features vs cost.

I am talking just forums here, not specific functionality of the website, like leaderboards and such.

EDIT: I could see crowdforging for which subforums/tree structure though.

Dark Archive Goblin Squad Member

I would like to see Xenforo forums to be used with a nice little skin around it. Xenforo is so nice to be tinkered around with, used and modded that it is scary.

For my Age of Conan guild we made our own site and forum. It was more work but it was certainly functional with plenty of options. If a couple guys with a little programming and design skill can pull that off then GW should be able to do so in a very short time. It's all about priorities though.

Goblin Squad Member

True. They are going to make new forums for alpha anyway, so I figured it was just a matter of picking your forumsoftware. I guess not. :)
If we are going to crowdforge it, I will be a great supporter of lots of smilies! And subforums.

How about "The Goblin Waterhole" (or Drinkhole)as name for the Tavern subforum(roleplay)?

I would like a Goblinworks Post Tracker, if there isn't one right now.

Goblin Squad Member

What I, and probably others, use is:

http://paizo.com/people/RyanDancey/posts

and then substitute "VicWertz", "TorkShaw", "LisaStevens", LeeHammock", and "StephenCheney". Some visit often, some less so.

Goblin Squad Member

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Yes I do that too, but it would be nicer to have it all in one button.

Goblin Squad Member

There are.... so many things... that I would like to see in the new forums. I think the community has done a great job expressing their desires, and I'm sure all the ones on my list have been covered at some point... so I'm not even going to bother listing them. I'm not saying you guys shouldn't list them - I'm just saying that I am feeling rather lazy. ;)

I'll go cry in my corner now.

But seriously, as Ryan stated the first version of the forums will most likely be pretty simple.

OOPS! Well played, Taylor; I missed the edit-cutoff by three minutes.

Post some PFO related math or just sample numbers and I promise I'll check http://paizo.com/people/TaylorHainlen/posts daily. Better yet, since you're a programmer, the actual source code would be even better ...

Or maybe we should try reverse psychology here:

Don't post source code. Seriously, no one will read it.

So Stephen just walked over to my desk to explicitly tell me that I was not allowed to give you anything, so that'd be a no.

Besides I mainly work on random tools and utilities like our build system or the website, I highly doubt my source code would be all that interesting.

Goblin Squad Member

You've followed these boards closely-enough to know how desperate we are, so don't downplay our plight.

EDIT: ...and now we know Stephen's staring at all of us in real-time, too...LOL

Hehe.

So Stephen's still there reading this, huh? In that case ask him about ... (kidding again of course!)

Edit: Apparently I forget how to use quotes or something.

Edit2: Hmmm, Ryan said he's filming at 4 local time, so depending on how long that took it seems unlikely Stephen was in the vblog. Can you tell we're anxious for a blog? Maybe I'm overthinking and it's nothing but a 2 second video of Lee saying "Alpha!" to the camera.

I try to at least skim most threads that aren't company/settlement recruitment and policy threads. I don't usually comment unless there's a question I can answer... that needs to be answered presently and which the forum regulars can't already articulate a complete response to.

But I am present enough to protect the programmers from your fancy psychological mind control attempts. ;)

Looks like Stephen provides a group buff to the programmer's Will defense. Never going to get a full hit then, so time to switch to something Fort based. Maybe keep Taylor awake for a really long time...

Or maybe I need to use different keywords. I hear "Beer" is a pretty useful major keyword.

I dunno, I'm pretty damn confident in my fortitude(Heck the whole programming team probably has amazing fortitude with some of the hours we've been pulling the last few weeks). I'd recommend something reflex based. As my friends like to put it I'm in a constant feud with gravity. Then again I don't know what useful information you can get from an activity that puts my reflexes to the test...

LOL!

So you get a huge Will bonus from Stephen, have ridiculous Fort, and Reflex attacks don't do anything. Can somebody say "nerf"?

Formation-class encounters...such a tease!

Tease:
*Trainable only at GW headquarters
*Attack vs. Will
*Precise +30 against non-developers (has no effect on developers)
*Instead of reading keywords from your weapon, forces forum readers to read your keywords in endless loops.

That's the second time I've seen that phrase "formation-class", so don't think it's gone unnoticed, and don't think it doesn't have us salivating :)

Hm...perhaps a formation-class encounter is a type of hostile mob players are expected to engage as a formation?

Well I know you are missing at least one, maybe more. I know that Zeke Garcia from the art team has posted before(but it was quite some time ago(it was a thread on one of the videos if that helps) and I am much too busy to go find his actual user name). I don't know if any of the other artists have posted before.

From the programming team, Cole Brown SHOULD have an account(he's the one who showed me how to get the proper forum title) but I've never seen him post so maybe he never has. On the other hand I know Connor has never posted before.

I don't think Bob from the design team has posted before either so I think, and I may well be mistaken, that might be everyone.

Perhaps...

Actually, I think I remember that. Thanks for the run-down :)

Or it might just be a term for a conflict between groups large enough to necessitate (or just permit) formations.

I understand under PfO there will not be just three (Fort, Dex, Will) saves/defense but also against the other three. Please attempt you charisma save vs Nightdrifter ( and a logic save after that).

Edit: minor nit.

What? Uh, hi! I didn't think that would totally meant to do that. Just wanted to say I really appreciate the work you folks are doing. Enjoy the pie. And the ale.
