I'm starting to wonder how big frogs get in the River Kingdom. As big as a car? Bigger? Can you imagine the noise that a frog that big will be making at night while you try to sleep? A hundred of them making noise? Forget goblins! We will have to organize frog extermination expeditions if they get too big.

Wonder if we can convince the various barbarians out there that it would be a wonderful Rite of Passage for them to fight frogs large enough to swallow them whole? We would sell them a frog hunting license that's good for a week, at a nominal fee. If they can't kill a giant frog in a week's time, they aren't manly enough!

According to the Thornkeep book, Toad Hollow is the home of a Boggard tribe. Thus, not so much 'giant toads' as 'humanoid toads'.

Might I present the froghemoth?

Disclaimer: No idea if this is present in the region, but it might fit the bill, plus the environment is Temperate Marsh.

Would it be a Giant's or Titan's kid that would come to the marshes to get a Froghemoth as a pet? And I'm pretty sure this would be an instance of "I don't care if he is a monster with lots of loot and xp! I don't want his PARENTS AND NEIGHBORS coming over here and looking for him!"

If you are the leader of a chartered company who has joined Hammerfall and haven't already done so, please post here and/or pm me to let me know your Company name. I'm trying to add a list of the Companies who have joined us to our settlement description on GW. Thanks!

<waves>. I've officially voted for Hammerfall, my new home, on the Land Rush poll. The rest of my group should be (finally) registering on GoblinWorks and voting shortly. Or there will be hell to pay!

Looking forward to grand adventures with our merry band! And at the end of the day, some fine wine (OK, ale, you philistines!) and tales and songs of derring-do!

*****

Four tiny blue flags fluttered from stakes in the ground and a makeshift sign with bold blue calligraphy listed slightly to one side on its rough wooden stake. Nothing more to see yet but grass, and some wildflowers which hadn't gotten the message that their days were numbered. But, sitting in the center of the patch absentmindedly plaiting those flowers into a chain, Deianira could see the ghost of what it would be: white-washed, half-timbered, its diamond-paned windows gleaming and, inside, a well-stocked bar, a roaring fire (she shivered a bit at that; flowers or no, it was cold!) and in the corner, just over there, a small bit of stage. No, it wouldn't compare with anything back in Almas. Not a proper tavern, not a proper inn, and not even close to the merest hint of a proper theatre. But no critics - well, not professional ones - plenty of interesting people, and a lot more freedom.

From down the hill, she could hear the old-fashioned bell - she still wondered where Ganthe had managed to find it - and grinned. Dinner. Well, there'd be quite a few more of those at the campfire before this place was open for business. She uncurled her legs, dropped the daisy chain over the sign, and half-ran, half-danced down the hill.

BTW Deianira, how do you feel about learning the bango? If we are going to work the marshes, we need bango music!

Liberty's Edge Goblin Squad Member

Hmm... I'm more of a fiddler, mainly because you can't really sing while fiddling and, well, we won't talk about my singing...

But sure, I'll give the banjo a try! Who knows, we may start our own religion!

Hammerfall

Threads of wood, gold and iron woven into one tapestry for all.

Description:
Settlement Alignment: NG
Government: Oligarchy (Town Council)

Hammerfall is a settlement formed by an alliance of The Hearthguard and Marsh Wardens Companies. Our goal: To be a haven for non-evil PC craftsmen, explorers and warriors. Striving for individual excellence but working together to assist and protect our community and its allies.

All non-evil player roles are welcomed as citizens of Hammerfall. Members may ply their trades as they wish. Crafters may craft; traders may trade; explorers explore; warriors defend the community from threats. Citizens will also be encouraged to work together when appropriate for the betterment of the community. (For example, a warrior may be asked to guard crafters while adamantine is harvested or escort a trader's caravan to its destination.) Through such cooperative exploration and application of talent, we hope to build a protected community known throughout the River Kingdoms for the quality of both its citizens and its wares.

Government of the settlement will be by Town Council. Once play begins, all citizens of the settlement will be given the opportunity to voice their opinions prior to major policy changes, so that the community's concerns can be taken into account when the council makes its decision. Current membership of the council is drawn from The Hearthguard and Marsh Wardens chartered companies, but opportunities for appointment to the council based on merit may become available in the future.

We are against PvP and griefing and neither will be tolerated within our settlement. This doesn't mean, however, that our citizens should not defend themselves if attacked by others with differing viewpoints. Hammerfall will never initiate violence, but we also will not allow banditry or hostile forces to harm our citizens or our allies. To this end, citizens are requested, but not required, to assist in the defense of the settlement and the defense of our allies should it become necessary.

We welcome players and guilds/companies of a similar mindset to join us.

Hammerfall is a signatory of the Roseblood Accord.

WOO-HOO! Kept our spot! Did lose Brains & Brawn as a neighbor and gained the Bastard Sons of Daggermark in their place and kept the rest of our neighbors.

Poor Four Rivers Mercenary Corp got T. Or maybe not poor, in the middle of the PvPers, a merc corp selling their swords to the highest bidder might be an excellent place for them.

Maybe they are like the Sons of Katie Elder. Some people thought they were handsome. :-)

But they may not have that hex next week unless they get a few more folks. They are one of six companies with 7 folks in them and six companies of six right below them. And Golarion Liberators failed to get a settlement this week but have already passed them with nine people in their company.

Lone travelers to the River Kingdoms! Companies tired of the rough life on the road! Friendly groups looking around as the Land Rush heats up! Rest your weary feet in Hammerfall (at the Groundlings Tavern – reasonable rates, clean(ish) rooms, cute waitstaff, excellent food and drink) and consider making your home with us!

Intrepid explorers? The wilderness is waiting just beyond our walls, but watch out for the gators over in the swamp - uh, "picturesque wetlands". Or hunt them; our chefs can whip up some tasty gator tail appetizers, and alligator-skin boots are "in" this season!

Green-thumbed farmers and inventive chefs? We appreciate good food! (Sometimes a little too much… but taming a wilderness is a great exercise program!) Hammerfall is waiting for your organic produce and humanely raised stock. Help create Golarion’s next great fusion cuisine!

Canny lumberjacks and miners, carpenters and masons? How else will we make Hammerfall the shining city in the, uh, "wetlands" but with you? Bring your picks, your saws, your hammers and your blueprints and literally make your mark on the town!

Gifted crafters and savvy merchants? Ply your trade in the comfort of Hammerfall’s urban centre, and let the world beat a (peaceful, please!) path to your door! Or meet it halfway, traveling in comfort with your very own caravan!

Doughty warriors, wield your shields and pointy sticks in defense of our land, our caravans, and our people! Earn the gratitude of the masses! And if you’re very lucky, Deianira will compose songs in your honor!

Mysterious masters of arcane energies, in Hammerfall you’ll have the peace to study, the (uninhabited) land to practice in, and the occasional interloper to practice on! Plus booze!

Devout followers of Iomedae, Sarenrae, Desna and their ilk, you will find the folk of Hammerfall a kind and pleasant group, always ready to drink a bottle or three of holy wine! (Just go easy on the sermonizing!)

Shadowy footpads, feel free to skulk about. Just aim those nasty pointy sticks at the people beating up old Granny, and leave the populace and the customers alone!

I so love the Librarians of Doom name! I wished they had a website or a way to contact them. Everyone needs at least one Librarian of Doom in their settlement to make sure all the scrolls and parchments get returned on time and are back in their proper place!

Wait! I mean I will have a meaningful critiquing dialog with other members of the Marsh Wardens because I am once again going to try to get us past Forgeholm even though we have no interest in each other's hexes and are Roseblood Accord folks and we have no need to try to pass them.

But. Danggit! I want 10th place so our name shows up on the Leaderboard without us having to click to see the Top 40!. I want! I want! I want! :-)

"Don't care. I want 10th place as it is listed, even if it does mean we are actually 7th place."

"You are being childish. It's not important. Holding our hex and hoping our friends hold theirs is more important."

"Don't care! I'm older than you so that gives me the right to be childish and want what I want! I want our hex and I want 10th place!" [pouts. Holds his breath]

"Stop being a jerk!"

"Don't wanna!"

"Stop being a jerk and yelling and carrying on in public or when one of us GMs the next PFS game, they will make sure you die!'

{Darn! Blackmail! Never was any good against blackmail}

Good morning, all!

On a slightly more serious note (yes, we can be serious, but what is life without humour?), and with many, many thanks to TEO Kaeros for paving the way - and helping this technologically-limited poster get started - I present:

Deianira Sunstorm's story!.

At least part one. And it is very plain, as all the pretty stuff will have to wait till my artistic friend comes over this weekend. But Kaeros is onto something here, and our varied tales and travails on our way to the River Kingdoms - as well as our adventures there - will be the stuff of legends in years to come. Hoping to read more from others soon!

Gator Grabbers
Rich gator tail lightly seasoned, wrapped in bacon and fried golden brown (because frying and bacon make everything better and the dwarves love anything golden). Served with spicy remoulade dipping sauce.

Actually it was going to be the daily special but them suckers is big in this swamp.

Hello,
This is a general invite to all members of the Pathfinder online Rosebud Accord community who have not played MMO before.

If you would like to get a better feel for MMO’s before you jump into a player versus player environment you can join me at Lord of the rings online (free to play option) Aka F2P on the Meneldor server. The game itself does require a credit card but does not charge any fees and does try to sell you items and memberships and expansions which is the nature of their business.

Once you are in the game follow the epic quest which is your basic tutorial and sets up the storyline for your adventures in middle Earth.
Once outside of the introduction old tutorial and newbies zone you can mail me in game under my character’s name Handover.

Once you contact me I can invite you into my guild (kinship) and you and other Pathfinder players will have a home base of operations to explore MMO’s without the threat of someone trying to kill your character. Unlike Pathfinder online, Lord of the rings online is the theme Park MMO which is focused primarily on player versus environment.

I will try to be on Eastern Standard Time around 10 o’clock most nights and on sporadically during the week.

What we are trying to build?

Is it the intent of Pathfinder online to apply the pen and paper rules of the books into a computer generated world?

If the above is correct will you make it available a user-friendly editor to provide GM’s and players the ability to modify locations in that world? But, be subject to a vetting process for the sake of consistency within the online community of Pathfinder online?

I do understand the complexity of what I’m asking, considering the limitations of computing power and cost. But I believe my expectations are bit lofty but realistic in its objective of creating a truly Pathfinder online game.

Goblin Squad Member

I'm afraid it is not quite as Pathfinder online as that. While the intent is to capture the colour and flavour of the world, Pathfinder Online is a different game. Communities will be able to create permanent constructions in the world, and it is possible that individual users may be asked to design specific elements in something akin to "Modules", users will never have the kind of degree of freedom to modify the land that I think you are hoping for.

This Blog takes a shot at explaining why the online game needs to be a bit different than the TT's mechanics.

I hope that it helps.

Scarab Sages Goblin Squad Member

I'm one of the biggest cheerleaders for the tabletop PF RPG, and I have no illusions about the TTRPG being unplayable without a human GM, to provide essential oversight to the written rules, to bring them in line with the designers' intent and the context of the in-game situation.

I don't think we'll ever see an MMO or CRPG that 100% reflects the TTRPG ruleset.

Goblin Squad Member

Snorter wrote:

I expect there are quite a few folks out there who are "tinkering in their basement" working on a software product that would give the players an experience very much like being in an MMO while giving a GM the tools he needs to do what GMs need to do at the tabletop. I think a product like that might be very successful for introducing new players from the MMO world into the joys of moderated game sessions.

Scarab Sages Goblin Squad Member

If they eventually allow the players to build and populate their own locations, maybe set some standing orders for the inhabitants AI, and let their friends romp around in the result, then you will have an MMO experience that resembles what a fair number of TTRPG scenarios play out like. There's an abandoned fort, taken over by orcs. They need killing. Go in and beat them up. Steal their loot. Eat their pies.

But that didn't seem to be what Brock was asking for.
He's asking for an MMO that follows the d20 ruleset.
And that just can't be done, without a GM being present throughout, to interpret context, and tweak accordingly. A simple charm person spell, from a novice tabletop PC, requires a human filter, to adjudicate what would be a 'reasonable request'. Any dialogue more complex than a few canned responses requires human input.

And if you're doing that, then you're playing a d20 TTRPG over a virtual tabletop, not an MMO.

Grand Lodge Goblin Squad Member

I understand that interpretation on a social problem is beyond the capabilities of computers. The closest I’ve seen to giving computer players choices are interactive basis are games like Mass Effect, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic and from my understanding Elder scroll. The choices are generally narrow down to options one and two and three with limited if any real game affect.

What I would like to see is the mechanics of the D20 system to be applied to the computer game for example I would like the ability to hold the dagger throwing dagger and expect the dagger to do 1d4 points of damage to my opponent.

Unlike, the tabletop games computers are wonderful at crunching numbers that can affect play like the effects of encumbrance upon the character when they just pick up the 20th short sword to sell back at town 3 km away in a driving rainstorm, which most tabletop games gloss over for the sake of brevity and like me and an inability to do math on the fly
Another mechanic I would like to see is the application of the climbing ability on a terrain surface for example if I have a claim rating of 15 and I have a knotted rope with the grappling hook attached I would like the ability to take advantage of the hard-earned points I put into climbing and use it to escape pursuers or to approach that pesky orc tribe from the unanticipated direction.

I think asking for a GM’s toolkit for tabletops games would be a completely different product. There used to be one that was on an Excel spreadsheet that was excellent but was ultimately shut down by Wotc because they claimed it was a copyright infringement even though the product was free
