Dimensional Agility - ways to get Dimension Door as a swift / free action...

Sovereign Court

hey y'all! i'm back! :)

making a bard with DimAgility... what's the best way to cast DimDoor as free action other than quicken metamagic rod?

Teleportation conjuration school wizard, but its range is based on level.

Just to clarify swift actions are not free actions. You only get one swift per turn.

Spell Perfection (DDoor) plus Quicken Spell

I had a Battle Oracle with Improved Eldritch Heritage who grabbed DDoor and used this combination to move to wherever he wanted to be on the battlefield and still be able to full attack. Only took a level 4 spell slot too.

Which bloodline grants ddoor? Im thinking of going that route with my ninja...

none of them however Arcane has a bloodline power that will allow you to pick up to 3 arcane spells and add them to your list. It takes Improved Eldritch Heritage to get it though.

Oh ok, I see. That will work fine for me.

Nevermind, I thought it gave you the spell as a spell like ability. I might just have to take twelve monk levels to get abundant step. I was going to take four levels of moms anyway for efreeti style and be an unarmed strike ninja.

You can't do this. The spell clearly states that "After using this spell, you can't take any other actions until your next turn." Even if you cast this as a swift action you can't do anything else that turn. You might be able to argue for doing something before you cast the spell. But that would be a GM's decision.

Check the feats in UC, there's a series of feats you can take that improves the effects of DDoor/Abundant Step, all Dimensional something or other. The first one makes it so you can act after teleporting if I remember correctly.

Exactly this, Dimensional Agility, also known as what the thread was asking about.

You can also do it with Teleport without needing the feat but you do risk the mishap roll.

Don't forget Summoner. You get DD as a spell like ability, and as a spell.

great idea but this is for a bard not a wizard so that's too many feats... is there a magic item that can do DimDoor as a swift/free? my 12th level bard has DimDoor on his spell list if that helps. His feats are:

CombatExpertise
LingeringPerformance
Spellsong
DimensionalAgility
DiscordantVoice
SpellPenetration
GreaterSpellPenetration

hmmm.. looks like i gotta rebuild the pc with quicken metamagic rod...

well the dimensional agility feat line does exactly what you want, dimensional dervish allows you to cast dimension door as a swift action, but that would take a total of 3 feats(need dimensional assault too).

magic item-wise I can think of two although they would be subject to GM approval:

1) a custom intelligent cape of the mountebank (or the 3xday variant in UE) could allow you to use DDoor as a standard action for the cape, not you.

2) the non-custom intelligent harbringer rod can allow you to use DDoor as a standard action for the rod 3x/day but might have alignment problems.

A level 16 Monk could pull it off with the Quicken Spell-Like Ability feat on his Dimension Door ability, thus granting him pounce. Though if I'm reading it correctly he'd need to take the feat at level 17 to make it work with dimension door unless he got a bonus feat at 16 or could retrain his 15th level feat.

Though the dimensional assault feat makes that largely irrelevant, but you could still get quicken spell-like for your qiggong abilities earlier.

thanks cnetarian! my DM runs a standard game though (anything from the books but no custom magic items allowed) so it looks like metamagic rod is my only option; even if I can't make it happen I don't mind because bards can still activate bardic performances after dimension dooring with this feat (standard to dimdoor; then move to activate bardic performance - swift at 13th level, so with the virtuoso performance spell active, I can dimdoor and activate two performances: one as a move action and one as a swift action)

Some of my performances are masterpieces (like making all enemies bleed for 1d6 per round, or making all allies gain fast healing) so these actions after DimDooring will still make the feat useful.

Magus (Spell Dancer) archetype allows you to Dimension Door once per spell dance as a swift action.

Thanks!

There is always Shadowdancer as well, Shadow Jump does qualify for Dimensional Agility, but you have to be in dim light.

thanks for everyone's input; my guy is a single classed level 12 bard, so the rod of metamagic quicken is my only option. Thanks to all the feedback though. Dimensional Agility is a "nice to have" for my bard as he will be able to dimension door around the battlefield and initiate two performances per round (at level 13) via the Virtuoso Performance spell (bard 4).

Sovereign Court

So this is the only way I believe I will be able to make Dimensional Agility useful with my 12th level bard:

METAMAGIC, QUICKEN
Aura strong (no school); CL 17th
Slot none; Price 35,000 gp (lesser), 75,500 gp (normal), 170,000 gp (greater); Weight 5 lbs.
DESCRIPTION
The wielder can cast up to three spells per day that are quickened as though using the Quicken Spell feat.

CONSTRUCTION
Requirements Craft Rod, Quicken Spell; Cost 17,500 gp (lesser), 37,750 gp (normal), 85,000 gp (greater)

I'm not so good with the newer books (Ultimate Magic and onwards) so if one of you knows of a cheaper way to make this happen, I'd welcome the suggestion. Essentially, I'd be satisfied with anything that acts like a quicken metamagic rod for the purposes of the *Dimension Door* spell only. (i.e. metamagic quicken rod is 75,500 but can be used for ANY spell up to 6th level spells... Dimension Door is just a 4th level spell, *just* above the 3rd level limit of a lesser quicken rod, so I find this 75,500 expense a bit of a waste, and would love a more targeted, DimensionDoor-specific cost efficient solution...)
