New Sorcerer

Rules Questions

Sczarni

New to playing Pathfinder and i just had a few questions on my mind

1) Why is it that certain spells aren't listed in the core rulebook, for example Elemental touch? And will i be able to use these spells?

2) As a sorcerer are the spells you choose set in stone or can you change your spells before each session?

3) I chose to be a fire elemental sorcerer over electrical because i thought it would be more interesting to set creatures ablaze than to stagger them and i was wondering if there were any spells other than elemental touch that would allow me to do so?

PS: Any additional advice/heads up would be greatly appreciated

Thank you!

1. The CRB is the original rule book. There are also other books with additional options such as spells and so on. You can use the other spells in those books as long as they are on your class list.

2. The spells are set in stone.

3. There are not many that do that, and it only takes a DC 15 reflex save to get rid of the fire unless the spell says otherwise. In other words do it, if you are just like the "cool" factor, but don't expect for it to be too useful.

Sorcerers have extremely limited ability to change spells. You can change one spell when you reach the 4th level, and change one spell every 2 levels afterwards. So you'll only get a few opportunities to do this over your entire career.

Because of this, you need to think very carefully about your spell selection. Sorcerers love anything that can increase their number of spells known.

advice: go with human, with the favored class rules they can get extra spells known every level (not of their top level spells at the time, though). at the lowest levels you will probably just want HPs/skills since bonus cantrips aren't that exciting, but once you can get free REAL spells known that way, it's a great option (that you should take at least half the levels, even if you want a bonus skill rank the other half).

within the core rulebook (CRB) there is the extra arcana feat, which grants 1 bonus spell of your max spell level, or 2 of lower levels.
the arcane bloodline also gains some bonus spells known at mid/higher levels.
outside of core, there are items which can also grant bonus spells known (mnemonic vest, rings and pages of spell knowledge, in Ultimate Magic)

I did not realize this was a beginner box question. I dont know if it supports books beyond the CRB.

The sorcerer is not a class option for the Beginner Box, so I'm not sure why this question is in the Beginner Box forum.

Sorry, i thought beginner box was where beginners ask questions, and not referring to the actual beginner box

How much reflex save does it take to avoid being staggered from a air elemental sorcerer? I also decided to go fire because i heard that many creatures are fire based and or do fire damage, so i was thinking if i went fire the elemental resistance i get at lv 3, 9, and 20 would really help. If the previous sentence correct ^, is there any reason other than personal preference to pick anything other than fire?

I thought that human with favored sorcerer class gets +1 hp or +1 skill point

Well, because many creatures have fire resistance, a fire-related sorcerer will come up against enemies he has trouble damaging more so than elemental sorcerers based around other elements (in general; your GM might prefer throwing cold-based creatures at you, or something).

Advanced Race Guide, and I think also the Advanced Player's Guide add other options for favoured class bonuses.

It's not intended to. Once you're hitting books like "Advanced Player", you're not really a Beginner any more.

The problem may be is that the OP has been exposed to advanced material BEFORE actually using Beginner Box.
