Controlled Rage and Spellcasting

Rules Questions

I know the controlled rage feature of the barbarian class allows one to avoid the restriction on intelligence, dexterity, and charisma based skills. Does that also allow him to bypass the restrictions on doing things that require concentration, like spellcasting?

Shadow Lodge

yes
wait no.

Liberty's Edge

Nope. It only allows what it says it allows, sadly.

Well that sucks. There goes my mounted barbarian hitting enemies with glitterdust before running in and cutting their heads off.

Grand Lodge

Indeed.

Controlled Rage only allows, what it says it allows.

It otherwise has all the restrictions of Rage.

It notes this in it's description.

Int skills refers to actual skills which have Int as their governing stat, ie. Knowledge, Craft, Appraise, etc. It doesn't relate to spells just because certain spells have DCs governed by Int or because you get bonus spells known based on Int. For example, a Cleric or other caster with Wis-based spellcasting still can't cast spells, not because of the stat it uses but because spells inherently require Concentration. By contrast, if you had a Supernatural ability that just so happened have a DC based on Int, it could be used because, even though an aspect of it is based on Int, it isn't a skill based on Int (so long as it doesn't involve making an int skill check).

Take a look at the Moment of Clarity rage power. It'll let you temporarily suspend rage so you can cast a spell, if that's the kind of thing you're looking for.

Also, Rage Prophet PrC.

Hard to use verbal components effectively when you're foaming at the mouth.

That is not how Rage is.

You can talk, fight defensively, use Combat Expertise, and any Supernatural ability.

It is not eye-popping, mouth frothing, suicidal retard rage.

You are not invoking the spirit of a Gibbering Mouther.
