So I've been looking at Scion a lot lately and have decided I'd like to try it. Should I get a little interest I'd like to set up a game for 4-5 Scions of the Aesir gods, who will be playing through the published 'Ragnarok' campaign book. For the first adventure I will only be using Aesir gods. There are a few other houserules that I will be using as well but I'll hold off on those until I'm sure people are interested.

I'd be very interested in a scion game - I've had a concept in the back of my mind for a very long time. It would require a little setup though - I'd like to play one of a pair of twin scions of Hel (one hideous, one beautiful). If there is another player, or you could accommodate such an NPC, I'd be very grateful.

If you want an expansion of your choices you should pick up the Ragnarok book. The first half or so of the book is player friendly and full of tons of useful stories, about 5 new Aesir and a good bunch of boons, purviews, knacks and relic ideas.
The Companion is similarly useful, though less focused.

You're not quite short one, sorry, long few days. I should note that if I start this I tend to be a bit slower than many games (more two to three times a week than once a day posting).
I'm still interested. And while I was hoping for more interest, four ought to do it.
In that case lets see some characters. Feel free to build friends, rivals and plot hooks into your backstories. I won't say they are garanteed use, but ill make an attempt. Also I don't have players buy legend with xp but earn it in story, except the first dot of legend which is already bought using bonus points.
In other words, each of you starts with three legend and only 8 bonus points instead of 15

Hel is known for having few scions of her own. Few can stand the monstrous visage of her true form, even these few would not be likely to father children, given her icy and unapproachable attitude. All the more significant is the rise of not one, but two children of the queen of the underworld. In the last decade of the 20th century, a man named Joachim Malder was finishing his law degree, and tried to join the prestigious NY-based law firm of Eisbred and partners. Hel, or "Helen Eisbred", instantly took a detached interest in the young man, who (unlike her cowering subordinates) was actually trying to thrive in her arctic hell of a law firm. Joachim, on the other hand, was repulsed by Eisbreds looks and intimidated by her personality - but on the other hand, her merciless and efficient conquest of any opposition to her clients spoke to what he believed a true "law shark" should be. Their affair was swift and completely under Hel's control - she took the young man not quite, but almost in spite of himself, and ended it before he had a chance to come to his senses.
Joachim saw legitimate cases crushed as victims were blamed and collapsed in courtrooms. He saw a dying man's family plunged into debt after his medical insurance retroactively terminated his policy. In the end, he realized his own view on what his profession would be were as misguided as those of a teenager trying to act "gangsta". He quit, found a new job as an assigned council for the very poorest. It paid miserably, but this time, he could do his job in good conscience. He lost a lot of cases, much more than he won, but each victory reinforced that his choice had been right.
When Ludmilla and Natasha arrived in the dead of night, with a short, curt notice that Helen Eisbred that her own plans did not allow her to take care of children, and a promise of a moderate stipend for his service. Joachim never even considered passing them off to state care. Grew to love both of them, after a fashion. The two baby girls, even than, had been near mirror images of one another. The same toothless grins, the same mewling calls - but something about Ludmilla was off. Not as overt as her mothers disfigurement, and in fact hard to place even on photography. Just the way her eyes never quite seemed to focus on you. The tone of skin, that never looked quite healthy, but like a week-old corpse. Her smell, sickly and sweet. How every word she said seemed either mocking, or menacing.
So while Natasha breezed through life, Ludmilla became someone to avoid if possible. In a way, she enjoyed it - almost. It meant not having to deal with the popularity games her sister excelled in. It meant being able to thing without interruption or distraction. And just as her father was ready to send her to counciling, Hel made herself known to her children. She was curt, polite and not overly involved - a summons to her law firm. A brief introduction to their state and what it meant. Trinkets for both of them. The promise/threat of further contact. 'Milla took in better stride than her sister. She had always been different, always an outcast. Now, it all made a lot more sense to her. But what it meant, she couldn't quite figure out. She had been planning to study law. Move cross-country with the stipend her father had been saving since taking care of her.

Since Hel doesn't really offer much in the Purview department, I think I will focus on Epic Manipulation, maybe a dash of Death, and Followers (spirits of warriors brough low by famine, disease and poison). If you allow a non-associated purchase even now, Magic would be interesting as well.
Other than that, Mental would probably be primary.

The book does expand the pantheon. It adds Uller, Hod and I think one other god. I do allow non-associated purchases of purviews, but you need a bit of a narrative reason like Grandpa Loki giving you the fire purview.
And to Anthony, not too hard to learn. Its a narrative system more than a rulesy one

Like I said, I'm new to the system. I'm working my way through it butwouldn't mind some hand holding for character creation. I'd rather not shoot myself in the foot by picking something that's completely useless.
My current thought is an ice climber that can track his lineage back to Hodr. If Hodr isn't available (I can't find him in either book, though I might have just missed him) I'll go with another of the Aesir. Thor could actually work out well. He seems like the type to spawn an athlete.
ETA: If anyone wants to do said hand-holding and help me sort this whole mess out, feel free to PM me. My preferred medium for discourse is email, but I can manage via PM as well.

It seems I was incorrect. Hodr or Hod has no official writeup, but I'm going to check out his best stats and extrapolate from that.
Hod, God of the Night...
Associated would be Epic Strength, Epic Stamina and Epic Perception. With the Darkness, Frost, Jotunblut and War Purviews
Associated Abilities would be Stealth, Melee, Awareness, Art, Integrity and Investigation.
Those seem to fit all right.

As I develop things today I'll probably have a few posts in a row, given how this thread has moved.
I saw a reference to a Knack "Boys Will Be Boys" which seems to fit my concept as it's developing. Anyone know where it's from or what it actually does? The gist I got was it makes authority figures roll their eyes and accept that sometimes kids misbehave.
This'd be great for a character that does stuff like climb corporate buildings for publicity.
Edit: Adding in a background for how I see the kid.
Step 1: write five things about your character’s concept and background, five things that you think are the most essential parts of your character. You don’t have to stop at five, if you like…this is just a minimum.
1.) Professional Rock/Ice Climber. Has started breaking into climbing Skyscrapers for publicity (think Robert Alain).
2.) Son of Hodr, God of Winter. Was blissfully unaware until very recently.
3.) Nearly killed when glacier calved while he was climbing it. Neuge (Partner/girlfriend) in boat was killed. (~2 years ago)
4.) Met Mara about a few months back and has been slowly learning the ropes from her. She’s using him for protection.
5.) Blames his father for a majority of his hardships in the last few years. Assuming that it comes with the territory.
Step 2: List two goals for the character that you, as a player, think would be cool to see accomplished in-game. During any session in which you take positive action to achieve that goal, I will award you an action point that can only be used in scenes furthering that goal. These Action Points are separate from the action points you gain by resting and reaching milestones. You can change goals later, though you lose all the accumulated Action Points for the goal you abandoned.
1.) Find some way to sort out his issues with his father. Presumably coming to blows is out of the question.
2.) Attain his dead girlfriend as a Follower. I think it’d be fun to have her tagging along. Presumably we’ll be heading into Hel for Ragnarok.
Step 3: List two secrets about your character. One is a secret the character knows, one is a secret that involves him but that he is not actually aware of yet. This will help me in creating plots that center around your character. I will also be creating a third secret which you as a player will not be aware of, so expect some surprises!
1.) (Unaware) Loki arranged the meeting between his mother and father. Bobby has no idea why.
2.) (Aware) Bobby knew that the risk of calving was high when he went on that climb, he just didn’t think the risk was shared by Susan
Step 4: Describe three people that are tied to the character though blood, romance or honor. Two of them are friendly to the character, one is hostile. All can do something useful for you, if you can get the situations to line up. If you like, you can include an enemy of yours here as well, so I have an instant NPC nemesis to throw at you.
1.) Lawrence - Hostile - The Competition. These two were once friends. Bobby made a call on a climb that saved his own life but left Lawrence in the hospital for a long while. He feels guilty about what happened, but he doesn’t regret saving his life (and possibly Lawrence’s). Had things gone differently, it’s possible that both of them would have fallen, and farther.
2.) Mara Secare - Bobby met Mara a few months back. She knew what he was well before he knew a thing about her. She’s been teaching him the ropes in exchange for protection. He can only do so much, but he’s learning fairly quick. So far, he’s the only man she’s met since her escape who can endure her physical affection over an extended period of time.
3.) Neuge - Yes, she’s dead. These are gods we’re talking about. What are the chances that’ll slow her down? Was she a scion? Who knows. Is she just a pawn? Maybe.
She and Bobby dated for years. He’d just started looking for a ring when the accident happened. They shared a love for climbing and the outdoors. She filmed him climbing landmarks and various bits of nature. They met at Mt. Rushmore, shortly before he was arrested for climbing it.
Step 5: Describe three memories that your character has. They don't have to be elaborate, but they should provide some context and flavor.
1.) Bobby’s met his father twice. The first time he was just a boy. Hodr came around for his ninth birthday. He doesn’t remember much of it. The second was just after the accident. His father revealed his nature and what he was capable of. Bobby blamed his father for Neuge’s death. He was ready to blame anyone but himself. He’s shoved the blame for all of his hardship since then on his father.
2.) He can remember clearly getting on that wall of ice. Telling Neuge to knock it off in front of the guys. He’d be right back…
“I love you” ~“Yeah, me too.”
Crack.
It was like the world exploded. That crack was so loud his heart skipped a beat. Then he was slammed into the water. Everyone was gone. His boat, his friends… Everyone.
3.) The moment of his arrest at Mt. Rushmore. It was his first big climb and he managed to avoid incarceration mostly through his charm. It was also when he met Neuge, which kicked off years of happiness.
