[Jehova's Arena, Test] Fight the Eighth, Bruno vs. Kyrian

Play-by-Post

The crowd is larger than any either of the combatants have seen so far. It would seem that everyone has been waiting for this battle, and there are vocal supporters of each side, screaming commands and encouragement at 'DWARF' and 'DEMON', respectively. There's the sense that some people have actual money riding on the outcome. The arena is also apparently paying enough attention to toss in a real blower of horns, who sounds a short blast, signaling to those on the sand that the fight is about to begin.

Time for Initiatives and crowd-pleasing, Bruno starts at A10, Kyrian at L10.

Bruno Bullrush: Smelly Dwarf astride a smelly camel. Win:2 Loss:6 Rep: 3

Bruno emerges from the north end of the arena with lance in hand and Esmarelda striding beside him. He takes in the hollering and hissing crowd for a moment before lifting his lance high and waving, trying to get his section of spectators to cheer louder. He gets so caught up in crowd-pleasing that he almost forgets what he's doing.

dice:
initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

Initiative of 5. I hope that's not an Omen. :(

Male Tiefling

Hopefully I can manage more than 5 on initiative :P

GM:
Initiative: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

Pfft, barely. Well, it's a 7, so he wins out by a little bit.

Kyrian enters the arena, sword drawn, and looks around as some of the spectators cheer him, surprised. He gives a mildly embarrassed smile, somewhat distracted by the fans. Remembering what he's here for after a moment however, he focuses back on the task at hand.

Seeing Bruno preoccupied with the crowd as well, Kyrian takes his time in applying a spell to himself, before dropping to a battle ready stance. He lets out a bit of a snarl to get Bruno's attention, though it is hard to tell if it registers over the roar of the crowd.

GM:
Shield on myself, as usual.

That'll be all for his surprise round. On a side note actually, can you 5-foot step during a surprise round?

Since the only requirements for a 5-foot step I can find is that you've not moved at all in the 'round', 5-foot steps are fine during the surprise round. A 5-foot step is not an action.

Bruno Bullrush: Smelly Dwarf astride a smelly camel. Win:2 Loss:6 Rep: 3

surprise round actions

dice+GM:

ride: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Passed for free action mount

Bruno registers a slight sound off to his right. When he glances, he sees his opponent already moving. Bruno mounts Esmarelda so fast some people loose track of him. he lowers his lance and proclaims, Have a ye, man-devil! before launching his customary wad of thick spit at his rival.
He proceeds to ride to the north-west corner of the arena, nearer to his fans, in an apparently new strategy.

Suprise round complete

Male Tiefling

Question, what location are you/Esmeralda in at the moment?

Bruno Only:
Did you want to take Esmarelda's move action once you mounted her?

Bruno Bullrush: Smelly Dwarf astride a smelly camel. Win:2 Loss:6 Rep: 3

A-B/1-2 GM has also reminded me of an unspent action, see revised above

GM:
might as well, but I don't want to charge-splat. no fun that way.

Male Tiefling

Kyrian raises an eyebrow as Bruno turns and proceeds to the corner.

Tail twitching in curiosity, he works his jaws a bit in order to speak more clearly in common, and calls, "You know, I'm over here..."

After a moment, he spins the sword in his hand idly, and moves in Bruno's general direction.

Over to H7, using the pillars as charge obstructions ideally :P

GM:
Move action to H7, then standard to ready an action for daze on the camel if it comes within 10 feet of me (i.e. two spaces away, so there would be one space between us, in case it works and I want to 5-foot step closer and spell combat. That would be the plan anyway).

Kyrian Only:
Just to be sure you know, lances have a 10 ft. reach, so if you wait for it to come that close Bruno will be able to poke ye before the daze hits.

WAIT, CRAP, DID I ALLOW BRUNO TO FIGHT AT 5 FT. RANGE WITH HIS LANCE ALL LAST BATTLE!? D:

HOW DID NOBODY NOTICE THAT, ARHAHRAHRHARGH

Bruno Bullrush: Smelly Dwarf astride a smelly camel. Win:2 Loss:6 Rep: 3

Bruno nudges Esmeralda slightly over to the left, then spots his prey. It would be difficult, but he decides to go for broke. Besides, these people came to see blood.
With a gravelly battle cry he urges Esmeralda into a charge. Once he is clear of the pilar, he swings his lance wide, using it's reach to attempt to catch his foe off guard.

5-food step to A/B-2/3. Charge to E/F-6/7. Using reach to complete the distance to H7 for attack. That should work out.

Dice+GM:

attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
damage: 2d8 + 16 ⇒ (2, 4) + 16 = 22
That charge path should work as a camel isn't actually 10 feet wide. If it doesn't please let me know and I'll move differently.
Also, added +1 attack for higher ground (mounted)

Attack = 22
Damage = 22

Male Tiefling

GM:
Whoops, I did not know that. Chalk it up to me not thinking it through all the way.

I don't think you're able to 5-foot step before a charge, unless you have something special that allows that? 5-foot steps are only allowed if you don't move any other distance during a round, iirc?

This is true, no 5-foot step and then a charge, the step negates your ability to move in any other way for the remainder of the round, and vice versa.

Kyrian Only:
Kyrian has 17 int though, it's doubtful he'd make that mistake... to be fair he probably also wouldn't try to cast daze against a camel, which is an illegal target... you're welcome to readjust your readied action in light of these things :P

Bruno Bullrush: Smelly Dwarf astride a smelly camel. Win:2 Loss:6 Rep: 3

Well that stinks :P Revising action for that turn
Bruno spots his prey as he moves across the field. He cautiously makes his way around the larger pillars, disappearing from his opponents's sight.

GM:

Move to E/F-1/2. Use both my actions to stow my lance and draw one of my pillum.

Male Tiefling

GM:
Derp! Yes, you are correct (clearly I don't have 17 Int). But, I suppose it doesn't matter with Bruno's revised actions.

So, if I can't see you, can I assume you can't see me? In which case...

Audience/GM:
Growling to himself, Kyrian runs a claw over his sword, a quick spark moving across it, while he steps to put his back against the pillars between him and Bruno. He makes a few gestures with his free hand and a pale blue radiance covers his arm. Holding his fist clenched, he waits a moment for Bruno to make a move.

If I'm wrong in assuming my actions would not be visible, let me know though.

GM:
Actions: Swift to enhance my sword, 5-foot step to G6, and standard to cast Frostbite, with me holding the charge.

Bruno Bullrush: Smelly Dwarf astride a smelly camel. Win:2 Loss:6 Rep: 3

please Let me know if his actions are visible

Neither of your actions are visible to one another, but since you aren't making any special efforts to be quiet or conceal your actions, either, you each know approximately where the other is. Kyrian is in G06, Bruno and Esmarelda are in EF0102. Bruno also hears a growling noise :P

Bruno Bullrush: Smelly Dwarf astride a smelly camel. Win:2 Loss:6 Rep: 3

GM:
Ready an action to throw my pilum at the first thing to round the pillar.

Bruno Only:
Is that your only action, meaning it's back to Kyrian's turn? Also won't you feel dumb if the next thing to pop out isn't Kyrian :D

Bruno Bullrush: Smelly Dwarf astride a smelly camel. Win:2 Loss:6 Rep: 3

GM:
Move to f/g-0102, double move to switch back to lance. I'm gonna skewer whatever shows up first

Bruno Only:
Is what you just posted supposed to be a new turn? In that case you'll need to wait until Kyrian has a chance to go. If you're changing your action, just clarify that that's what you're doing and that it's now Kyrian's turn.

Bruno Bullrush: Smelly Dwarf astride a smelly camel. Win:2 Loss:6 Rep: 3

GM:
Changing. I apologise for the confusion. It's getting late where I am and my mind is starting to get all fuzzy.

Kyrian hears the camel snort and shuffle southwards, but remain behind the pillar.

Bruno and Esmarelda are in FG0102, Kyrian's turn.

Bruno Bullrush: Smelly Dwarf astride a smelly camel. Win:2 Loss:6 Rep: 3

It's late here. I'll check back in the morning. Have a good night guys.

Male Tiefling

Kyrian grunts as his foe still refuses to come around the pillar, and he mumbles in a rough tongue. "Eja xhuxh, mendova se ishe pak më e guximshme se kjo. Gjobë atëherë, le të shkojë." Apologies to anyone who speaks Albanian if Google butchered the translation. Edit: And... sorry for making it the language of demons in general, I suppose :P

For those who speak Abyssal:
"Come on dwarf, I thought you were a little more courageous than this. Fine then, let's go."

With that, he moves around the pillar.

Gonna head to H5, with the plan being to go to G3, unless Bruno has a readied action to do something? I'll have a followup action depending on the result of my move.
.
And alright, later Choon.

Kyrian runs out from behind the pillars to see Bruno just finishing getting his lance into attack position.

No readied action visible.

Male Tiefling

Really? Well then, I will continue to G3 (provoking an attack of opportunity, if he's got his lance ready?), to try and semi-pin Bruno against the wall so he can't use that lance.

GM:
And, if I'm not dead from the AoO, I'll be using that held Frostbite. I'll roll now on the assumption that I don't end up dead from the AoO, although if I do, then I guess it doesn't matter.

Melee Touch Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Frostbite Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Well, that's a cool 2 nonlethal cold damage, but Bruno will be fatigued if it hits him.

Yes, Kyrian provokes an attack of opportunity for exiting square H04. I'm off to dreamland as well now, so we'll pick up with the AoO.

Bruno Bullrush: Smelly Dwarf astride a smelly camel. Win:2 Loss:6 Rep: 3

Bruno regrets wasting time behind the pillar, but is ready enough to try to skewer the demon as he moves close to Esmarelda.

dice:

attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
damage: 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16

AoO:
Attack: 22
Damage: 16 (max!)

As the demon spawn slides close Bruno drops his lance to the ground and draws his wicked looking pick. He brings it down upon his enemy and puts his spurs to Esmarelda, urging her to make Kyrian pay for daring to come so close.

dice:

attack(pick): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
damage: 1d6 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
ride: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
attack(Esmerelda): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
damage: 1d4 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

Standard turn:
Attack 17
Damage 11
Esmerelda:
Attack 17
Damage 10

Male Tiefling

Welp, I'm pretty sure the AoO dropped me. Damn, it was really close to being a miss too, but assuming everything's accurate, that'll put me down in one go.
.
The other 2 would have missed, but since I'd already be on the ground, you probably could have just coup de graced me instead. And damn, I was thinking I should have tried using acrobatics to avoid the hit while I was moving, but forgot to do so when I first posted. So yep, that'll be it then. Good match. You sorta surprised me with not charging like you did in all the other matches.

Oi, one thing at a time, Kyrian hadn't finished his turn yet, we were waiting for the attack of oppurtunity. That said, I think our tiefling's luck may have just run out...

Kyrian sprints from his cover towards the mounted dwarf, his hand sheathed in an eerie blue light. As Kyrian tries to dodge past the newly-readied lance, however, Bruno leans himself sideways in his saddle and very quickly swings the razor sharp tip in a surprising new direction, stabbing cleanly through the tiefling, chain shirt and all. The crowd gasps and claps as Kyrian flops to the sand, bleeding heavily.

And yeah, I checked them numbers twice, it was some good rolling.

Bruno Bullrush: Smelly Dwarf astride a smelly camel. Win:2 Loss:6 Rep: 3

Oh, sorry. I kinda get a little over-eager sometimes.
I concidered charging, but I knew you'd be expecting that, so I held back. Good maneuvering by the way, and good match in general.
Now, to leveling!

Bruno Bullrush: Smelly Dwarf astride a smelly camel. Win:2 Loss:6 Rep: 3

Bruno gives a mighty cry as his foe's blood turns the sand red. He lifts his thrice-blooded lance in victory before planting it tip-first into Kyrian's corpse like a gruesome flag. He spreads his arms to the audience, presenting himself as their victor.

The crowd cheers wildly, even those who seem disappointed with the dwarf's victory. There's nothing that lightens their mood like blood!

Victory, Bruno.
