Next week we are serving up a steaming hot bowl elbow drops!
You heard right!
"King of the Ring" launches next week!
It includes the Wrestler base class, the sumo alternate class for monks, new feats, equipment, and new submission mechanics!
We based the wrestler on historical wrestling disciplines and allowed some elements of the zeitgeist of popular wrestling to slip in :-) We've actually been playtesting this one for quite a while and it's been a lot of fun.
The included submission section really fleshes out grappling and allows the wrestler to do more then just hold a character in place. We always wanted to explore the effects of groundwork a bit more. How does an arm bar work? How does and ankle lock effect an opponent? Well, let me tell you- there were a lot of sore designers after we got done finding out.
The sumo was extensively researched and is not just a "fat guy in weird underwear". We treated the material wit has much respect, accuracy, and thematic integrity as possible. It plays like a bull-rush/forced movement focused monk with some nasty size category effects. It also is more Con focused and is a little less multiple attribute dependent then the traditional monk.
The feats flesh out the submission section, provide support for the wrestler & sumo, gives some much needed love to grapplers, and even augments the monk's feat selection a little.
I don't want to spoil the equipment section because it has some really interesting unique mechanics and gear. Let's just say we've got ourselves luchador masks in that section and they are as cool as something with that much cultural relevance/importance should be :-)
As per normal, if you've got any questions we'll do our best to answer them :-)

Glad to hear it. I'll make sure I post a link in here when it goes up on Paizo.com. We will either be launching next Tuesday or next Saturday (depends on a situation relating to another launch).
This is a really solid product and I can't wait for you guys to get your hands on it!
We had our own wrestling tournaments in our playtests. We laughed ourselves stupid at times.

Sign me up - just the think for those nights were everyone just wants to smash their team mates over the head with chairs, tables, etc
Well... ACTUALLY you pick a wrestler path (luchador, hardcore, etc) and one of them uses improvised weapons to beat people over the head. I think we even mentioned chairs specifically. O.o
That path can also imbue them with certain qualities (get ready to beat that tarrasque over the head with your flaming folding chair of justice!)

Hi Kevin!
We have a money back guarantee behind all of our products in case you had any misgivings :-)
If you don't love it- just shoot me an email and we will refund every penny. However, this is an AWESOME product that one of our designers, Jeremiah Zerby, has been keeping as a pet project for a long time so it will be stellar :-)

Okay so I have a question. My friend is intending to play a wrestler in my next game. The monk is not allowed so he can't play a full sumo. However, he wants to play a wrestler with the Rikishi diet. My friend is an optimal gamer and we are using point method for attributes. He is destroying all of his mental stats, and going for high strength and constitution. My question comes with the Rikishi Diet feat. Is the feat a little overpowered for a first level character? My friend with this will have a CMB of +8 and a CMD of 20 with the way he has made his character, plus he will be considered large, which makes him able to grapple enemies from a square away. When he requested to play this, I thought whoa this is overpowered for a first level character! I do understand that he needs to eat at least 5 trail rations a day, but a character who has a super high strength it won't matter for his encumbrance. I don't want to upset the player, but I guess I didn't understand that Rikishi diet was that strong of a feat. Oh and the player has already told me, that because his character's intelligence is so low, he intends to eat anything he can scavenge if he runs out of trail rations. Love the class, not sure about the Rikishi diet. Please Help!!!

He is only treated as large for the purpose of Grappling and forced movement. He does't get reach or anything else for being counted as large.
Benefit: You count as one size category larger for the purposes of grappling and resisting forced movement.

Hi! I'm said player who wants to play a wrestler. I have a further question-
What are the numerical benefits for being "considered large", as per wording of the Rikishi Diet feat? Is it just the +1 CMB/CMD size bonus for grapple and forced movement? Or, is there something else that I am missing?
P.S. While I am not a wrestling fan, I love the wrestler class. I think the crazy 1st edition things a character can do with Wrestling Techniques (i.e. using enemies as improvised weapons) is outstanding!
Thanks,

Basically it is just the +1 to CMB and CMD for the large for grappling. Where the benefit really helps out is abilities like Grab or Swallow Whole(and others} where they state that they can only do the maneuver on creatures one size category smaller than themselves, most of those would be considered forced movement.

Awesome. Thanks for the quick reply. Again, great product, great class, and great feat!

I have some more questions concerning the wrestler…
1 – After a successful DDT Wrestling Technique, the grapple is released. But, are the once grappled combatants left prone, standing, or some combination thereof?
2 – Armor Spikes – does their damage (dealt automatically after a successful grapple check) stack with damage from Wrestling Techniques and other Wrestler class abilities inside a grapple?
3 – What is a good mount for a 1st level Wrestler w/ Rikishi Diet who weighs over 400lbs? Please note that this mount is only to get from Point A to Point B and is not meant to be used in combat; yet, the GM wishes to be accurate with caring capacity for both characters and mounts. Also, an elephant “is right out.”
Thanks,

Hello LibraryRPGamer!
Sorry for the delay, I wanted to get the answers strait from the lead designer on those questions for you.
1.
"Prone unless one of them is immune to trip."
2.
"It depends on how the player is ruling the armor spikes. IF they deal damage automatically after the maintain option then yes as they would do damage no matter which option you select in the grapple. If they are ruling it as they must select the damage option (technically no due to order of operations and the difference between the wrestler and the other) but that's rules interactions as poorly written. It says grapple attack on armor spikes which is utterly meaningless."
(tl;dr Armor spikes have problems outside of our control due to poor wording.)
3.
"Sounds like dinos are right out too then. My answer is any huge creature that seems like it could be a mount. Or any large quadruped in excess of 20 strength. Both of those would make suitable mounts. If trying to keep out of exotic mounts a slightly stronger than normal draft horse is acceptable (21 strength leaves it in light load still with enough for tack) or get a cart and use 2 horses. If not, my favorite is the rhino."
(Personally, I'd love to see a character who "was so big he had to have 2 horses to pull him!". It just seems very mythological. Rock on!)
Hope you have a great New Years!

Hi Guys,
We are starting my new campaign soon where LibraryRPGamer is playing a Heavyweight Wrestler (with the Rikishi diet). He is excited but we are working out some questions and details. He had a question about:
Intimidating Strength (Ex):
Starting at 3rd level after using a technique with the slam descriptor, the heavyweight may make an Intimidate check to demoralize opponents who can see him within 20 feet of himself. At 7th level this extends to 30 feet, and at 11th level he gains a +5 bonus on this check.
The question he has was: If I use intimidate to demoralize within a grapple, and have Rikishi Diet, am I counted as being Large for the Intimidate check?
Thoughts? Again thank you for all the feedback. We want to work on all details before gameplay. I am sure we will have more in the future, but he is excited to play his wrestler, who is going to be chokeslamming and intimidating all enemies very soon.
