Hey all, was just looking through this class when I found the steel scarf ability, which at a glance seems pretty awesome, but I think I need some clarification on somethings.
Is the swift action just to make the scarf hard as steel or does this include the attack action as well?
If it does include it, does that mean I can attack twice at level one without doing a full-round action? Swift to hit them with scarf, move to go up to them and standard to attack with my melee weapon.
The scarf is treated as a weapon I'm proficient in and is a melee attack action, so does that mean I get to add my strength modifier to its damage in addition to the 1d8+Blah?
If I do get to add my strength modifier then does it count as a one-handed weapon, two-handed weapon or an off-hand for calculating added strength?

It's a swift action to harden the scarf, a normal (standard) action to make an attack with it ("as if it were a weapon making a melee attack").
You can add your Str bonus to it just like any other 1H melee weapon.
Can you use two hands for 1.5xStr like most other 1H melee weapons? Does it count as one attack for purposes of whirlwind attack? Can it be your off-hand for Two-Weapon Fighting?

Yeah I just appreciate anyone who takes the time to answer, wrong or right.
It's quite nice to have him and specifically though, what little info I could scrounge up from searching "Steel Scarf" on the forums was a lot of back and fourth on the subject.

I suppose you could 2H it like a 1H melee weapon, it would be weird to call it out as an exception when it's obviously dealing 1H-style damage. I'd count it as one attack, for Whirlwind or otherwise. I don't see any strong reason why it couldn't be part of a TWF setup.
It's not really an exception, it's that the only clue as to what kind of weapon it should be is the d8 and working with weapon finesse. What's the closest finesse weapon to 1d8? Spiked Chain is 2d4, and that's two-handed. Rapier is 1d6, but you don't benefit from using two hands. Whip, maybe, except it's got a bunch more exceptions and a tiny die.
I don't know if it's important enough for either a FAQ or errata, but the wording is confusing. Something like this would be much more clear:
"As a swift action, you can harden a scarf, sleeve, cloak, or other piece of your clothing into something as hard as steel that stretches out to be up to 30 feet long. This ability lasts until you make a single melee attack or combat maneuver with this weapon. For the purpose of this ability, you are proficient with this weapon, and may use Weapon Finesse with the attack. If you hit, the weapon deals 1d8 points of slashing damage + 1 point for every two oracle levels you possess. Apply your Strength modifier to this damage roll as appropriate for a one-handed weapon. After this attack, the clothing returns to its normal length and hardness. You do not threaten an area with this weapon and cannot use it to make attacks of opportunity. You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Charisma modifier."
I couldn't get the exact character count to match, but it's close. It would be kind of cool if the +1/2levels thing was considered an enhancement bonus to the weapon, so it would apply to the attack roll as well as helping bypass DR/magic.

It also sounds like if you have iterative attacks, you could not use it for multiple attacks, because it says "After this attack, the clothing returns to its normal length and hardness."
I'm imagining combining this with a bladed scarf and having a character that uses nothing but scarves to attack. Pretty cool.

I like your write up of it a lot, definitely clarifies things.
