Someone suggested going to one of the bars but I don't drink much anymore. It triggers panic attacks. I'm already going to be nervous (even though I shouldn't be since it should be an acceptable place for me). I need to find out what events are going on and if anyone wants to go with me. Even if I don't get dressed up, it would be a boring day if I was down there alone.
You could skip the parade and just hit up the Queer Geek afterparty instead? There should be non-alcohol options and board games available. :-)

Where are they going to meet up? I don't see anything announced on their page other than having a float.

I haven't heard yet either; it'll probably be announced closer to the day of the parade.

Not sure if this link will work, but this is pretty cool.
In case it doesn't it's a picture of some cops helping to deliver cakes to the couples waiting in line to be married. A friend said it reminded her of the cops delivering pizza to the protestors in the Capitol.
Times like this, I love my adopted state of Wisconsin.

Still waiting for mine to open its heart a bit more. :(
Saw mentioned a couple of times yesterday that, now that a lawsuit has been filed in North Dakota, every state in the union either has legal same sex marriage or a pending lawsuit on the subject. Everyone's going to get there, sooner rather than later.

It seems that police departments are getting into the spirit of equality. It'll be interesting to see if this is a sign of things to come or if it'll be an oddball case of not tolerating discrimination.

We have like three smaller gay pride parades here in the various boroughs in New York City.
Sunday June 29th is THE BIG ONE in Manhattan...and Intact America.org is encouraging everyone there to participate and spread the word:
2014 NEW YORK CITY PRIDE MARCH
Every year, dozens of cities across America welcome thousands of activists at pride parades, where participants march to celebrate lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender culture. Intact America is proud to honor those in the gay rights movement who stand with us in the fight to end the brutality of circumcision—because every child has the human right to remain whole.
We are happy to announce that the Intaction.org Mobile Education Unit is joining us in the Pride March this year!!!
If you live in or near New York City, please join us; you can find details and RSVP at the event's Facebook page. All are welcome, regardless of sexual orientation.
See you there.. AND MAY THE FORESKIN BE WITH YOU!

Obama to sign executive order on LGBT workplace protections
President Obama plans to sign an executive order barring federal contractors from discriminating on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity, a White House official has confirmed...

![]() |

One of my homelands has legalized gay marriage. Now I just have to sit back and patiently wait for Hell to freeze over. That's how I'll know that Florida has legalized gay marriage as well.
It's always been weird to me that places as vibrant and liminal as South Florida and Louisiana can be or still are bigoted. I mean, the land itself says "there is no either/or."

Wouldn't this discourage the hiring of people of "alternate" sexual orientation and gender identity because if you fire them for doing crap work they will charge you with "discrimination"?

Surprisingly, it usually doesn't. And the racial equality standards have taught companies how to get away with firing people for crap work without getting sued.

Let's say that before we rejoice too much, we have to think there will be people who will use this to their advantage, but not in the spirit it was meant to be.

Just like with racial and gender equality standards, right?
So yeah, it might have some negative effects. Tokenism and the like. OTOH, currently they can just say "No gays need apply". So I suspect the positive might just outweigh the negative.

On a lighter note, I stumbled upon this article about the Lady Chablis:
http://chronicle.augusta.com/stories/1999/03/16/met_256314.shtml
Most other interviews and articles refer to her as "she" but this article refer to Chablis as "him".
I was about to say: B++#&, don't you be calling her no man!
But then it hit me that perhaps as a "hard news" article, it have to refer Chablis as a man because Chablis is still technically a man under estrogen therapy but will refer to her as a "she" if she had made the full transition...whatever!

It was 1999; reporting on transgender people was still pretty medieval and cruel. It's generally understood and accepted (though there are still many notable holdouts) that you refer to a person by their preferred pronouns or public presentation, no matter where in the transition process they are.

MagusJanus wrote:Tokenism is a lot more easily dealt with than the discrimination. There will always be those who are hired as being just a token [insert whatever here], but that is the unfortunate side-effect of people being, well, people.still unacceptable to me.
Nothing short of species-wide enslavement seems to help prevent the issue. Some people are just going to be jerks.

Apparently in journalism, there are certain "rules" you have to follow in order to maintain objectivity. I have only seen and heard Lady Chablis referred to as "she" and "her" but seeing her being referred to as a "he" in this article is quite jarring.

The "rules" for transgender have likely changed in the last 15 years.

The farther you get from South Florida, the more conservative things get. Central Florida is in the middle with Orlando and Tampa being fairly progressive. Towards the boonies in Central Florida as well as the panhandle, and you get into the more conservative areas of Florida.
Of course, even in Ft. Lauderdale, which has a sizable LGBT community and in the whole, supports the community, my girlfriend and I still have to watch out for cops that'll assume she's a prostitute and stop us. Because apparently, a transwoman can't possibly have a loving relationship with a cis male, so clearly she's a hooker. *rolls eyes*

Indiana strikes down same-sex marriage ban.
The ruling is the 21st consecutive victory in state and federal court for the freedom to marry since the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling in Windsor v. United States in June 2013. The ruling is the 17th win in federal court for marriage since June and comes just one day before the landmark first anniversary of the Windsor ruling.

Wait, what?! Maybe you will also tell us that white (trans)woman can have loving relationship with Puerto Rican immigrant without him abusing her, taking advantage of her, or at the very least him being with her to get the green card?!
*shrug* What this world is coming to... People getting together as they want?! Relationships based on mutual respect, love and *gasp* partners' equality?! *rolls eyes*

It's just a fad. We'll be back to arranged marriages in no time.

Well, some people actually would prefer arranged marriages. If it works for them, at least let them live with the consequences of a choice of their own choosing.

The Bible Belt still exists? What they do, put up walls to keep outsiders from coming in?

From what I've seen, they put up psychological/societal walls to keep people from leaving.

Sometimes those are the worst sort of walls. You can't see them. Sometimes you're not even aware of them.
