Where to take my Inquisitor?

Advice

Hello all. I`m looking for advice on where to next take my Inquisitor character. He has just turned 6th level, but I don`t know what career path I should send him on. I am thinking of keeping him an Inquisitor until 8th level, so as to gain my third level spells and an additional attack.
We rolled for stats, and I got lucky. I wanted him to be very good at interacting with people, and to be keen-eyed an alert. The feats i`ve chosen are not optimised for any particular progression path, but seemed to fit into the character background I wanted.
Here he is:

Human, Male. N.G. Inquisitor Level 6 {Pharasma} A.C. 25. H.P. 48 INIT. +6
STR 13
DEX 16
CON 14
INT 13
WIS 16
CHA 16

Pharasma Domain: Knowledge.

Weapons:
Rapier. 1d6+3 {+8} Heavy Mace. 1d8+1 {+6} Longbow. 1d8 {+7}

Saves: Fortitude +7 Reflex +5 Will +8

Feats:
Alertness, Persuasive, Weapon Focus {Rapier}, Shield Focus, Precise Strike, Shield Wall.
{Rapier allowed by G.M. as Deity weapon instead of dagger}.

Skills:
Bluff +10, Climb +5, Diplomacy +13, Disable Device +7, Disguise +7, Heal +7, Intimidate +16, Knowledge Arcana +5, Dungeoneer +5, History +5, Local +5, Nature +5,
Nobility +5, Planes +5, Religion +5, Perception +13, Ride +8, Sense Motive +13, Spellcraft +5, Stealth +11, Survival +11 {Tracking +14}, Swim +5.
All values above include feats, equipment etc.

Spells:
0 Level- Create Water, Detect Magic, Detect Poison, Disrupt Undead, Light, Read Magic.
1st Level- Bless, Cure Light Wounds, Disguise Self, Hide from Undead.
2nd Level- Cure Moderate Wounds, Silence, Invisibility, Flames of the Faithful.

Equipment:
Breastplate +2, Heavy Shield +1, Rapier of Penetrating +2, Masterwork Heavy Mace,
Dagger +1 {Bane vs Shapeshifers}, Hand of Glory, Masterwork Thieves Tools, various potions and a few magic arrows {My D.M. is tight with items / money}

He`s no front-line fighter, but he`s quick, has good defences {A.C. 25 plus Judgement Protection, and Shield Wall}, and can dish out some damage with his Bane ability, Flames of the Faithful and Precise Strike.. I would like him to become a warrior for his religion, but don`t necessarily want to go down the Paladin route as he is neutral good. I don`t really like using a rapier, as it doesn`t fit in with the heavy-armoured warrior I want him to become, so some martial weapon proficiencies would be good. He also has decent healing spells and some buffs.

So far, my options seem to be Fighter, Cavalier, Cleic and Paladin. But should I go for an archtype? I will probably put any new feats into defensive abilities, to keep his armour class high.

I would say stay straight inquisitor. You are at a point where they come into their own and if you are worried about spell progression just use favored levels to pickup spells off the list you might be interested in. For combat judgement/teamwork feats make up for the lack of BAB and with your stats I would say take the power attack feat since with outflank and burst of speed you should have no problem getting into flanking position. With your AC being decent and the ability to self heal being a front-liner for you should not be a big deal either, and your damage with PA and bane is nothing to sneeze at either (extra 2d6+4 per swing).

Theres a prestige class called stalward or something like that. he's basically just a tank. You could probably spend yor feats on other things you'd like since all of the guys specail abilities are defense related.

just a suggestion, you were open to them ;)

i dunno know the name or the book he came from.

Normally the best advice would be stay inquisitor but if you really want to change then the divine scion prc would be a way to keep your spell casting while getting some new tricks.

Annother option would be 1 level of cleric (or life oracle)to pick up the Channel Energy ability and the Channeling scourge feat to enable the holy vindicator prestige class.

What is allowed?

Pretty much anything would be allowed by the G.M. The idea of a champion of Pharasma does appeal to me, but without the constraints of the Paladin {although i personally love the Paladin character class}.
The Cleric would allow me to double my spells per day, and channel energy is nice. But i don`t want to become a support character, healing the rest of the party. We already have a Cleric for that. Plus, the Cleric gets a rubbish amount of skill points.
I am drawn to the Cavalier, as he could chose the Order of the Star to serve his god. I`ll get the martial proficiencies i want, and a few more skill points too.

The party i`m in is quite balanced. We are all 6th level, and it consists of:
Half-Elf Ranger {bow specialist}
Human Fighter {two-weapon combo}
Human Wizard [Universalist}
Gnome Rogue
Human Cleric {Pharasma}
Human Inquisitor [Me!}

We were not allowed to choose any archtypes at character creation, or for the first 6 levels. But now its fair game.

You could go Pistolero or Gun Tank Gunslinger. Go for a Sword and Pistol feel.

i think you have enough people where a second cleric really wouldn't hurt. I know his SP are garbage but his spells make up for this. 5 guys is a lot for a cleric esp if your DM/GM us a lot of AOE spells.

yes the cleric can channel to heal this, but FIVE GUYS!!

Well, there is the option to take a dip into Crusader Cleric, nab the Versatile Channel feat, then the Channeling Scourge.

Stick it out and pick up Target of Opportunity, or Coordinated Charge, two of the better feats for an Inquisitor. Pulling out the ol' Repeating Crossbow and having the option of making an extra attack whenever that ranger or wizard makes a ranged attack is good stuff, as is getting to charge whenever the fighter does (in addition to your normal attack routine!) on the melee side. Inquisitors are such a solidly built class there's not a lot of reason to diverge off the path. You gain some stuff, but you stop progressing your Judgements and advancing your spell casting. Your next level of Inquisitor gives you Judgement 3/day, as well as your 3rd level spells and options like Heroism, Dimensional Anchor, Retribution, and Cast Out, amongst others. You don't want to retard your spell progression just before you get some of the sweet stuff. 8th level for the Inquisitor is even sweeter, since you gain the ability to have two Judgements up at the same time.

I echo other posters, and say keep straight inquisitor. Judgement is already great for you, and will only keep getting better(especially once you get Second Judgement). Bane is fantastic to have, and it's easiest to keep your spell progression up by staying single classed.

Thanks for all your comments. I will probably go with the concensus and stick it out as an Inquisitor for now. Will either pick up a decent heavy mace, or a martial weapon proficiency when i can.

If you want to make a warrior of your faith you already have the tools to do so. Currently I'm playing an Inquisitor in a campaign that's nearly a year long running and have built him from level 1 to 12 and have learned a few things. Bane is the absolute best ability that the inquisitor has at his disposal for combat purposes, you have access to Bane so I strongly recommend "Extended Bane". With your current build that's gonna give you 3 extra rounds of badassery +2 to hit and 2d6+2 damage oh lordy its hot. Take outflank as your most recent teamwork feat and you'll be able to flank and hit hard, 2 attacks per round with pumping out bane and precise strike damage is just sweet. Try to get haste casted on yourself because those hits with bane are the best and you wanna get the most bang for your buck. Also please don't waste a feat on a weapon prof. If you got any questions about my build or yours I'm available for brain picking.

Thanks, Jakynth. I would be very interested about your build. You mentioned not to waste a feat on weapon proficiencies. What weapon do you run with? Any tips on where i should put new feats, or what spells to go with?
We only haveaccess to the core rulebook and the advanced book so far. Where can i find the feat of Target of Opportunity, or Coordinated Charge, or Extended Bane?

unfortunately most of those are in Ultimate magic and ultimate combat. If you are stuck using core and APG it will certainly limit your options, I still cast my vote for power attack with outflank as your changeable teamwork feat.

My D.M. has said he will be getting Ultimate Combat soon, so i can look into the feats available there.

My Inquisitor is a worshiper of Iomedae so i'm fortunate enough to have the long sword as my weapon of choice. I've gotten a +3 long sword and with the bane making it an overall +5 weapon so with the alternate damage reduction breaking rules based on your weapons enhancement mod then I can practically break through all types of DR like butter. You can find the Extended Bane on the SRD not sure what book its in and the other 2 teamwork feats you mentioned your character wont have access to at this level. I'm getting a chance to respec my character through plot devices and am having trouble choosing feats myself. Ones that I have settled on though are step up, following step, step up and strike, and combat reflexes. Pretty much allowing me to dash around the battlefield and keeping any casters completely forced into casting defensively. Spell selection has been kinda crummy with me, I've built my character as a cruise'n bruiser so unless its a first round buff spell most of my casting happens out of combat but of the few spells that i do cast my fav's are Divine Favor(1st) and brow gasher(2nd) otherwise i function as a secondary healer out of combat. If you would like to see my full build I can email it to you.
