This was a project I took on after I saw Avengers, much to the sorrow of my current DM. I gave this build to my cohort, and by level 8 there were no enemies that could escape his crushing grasp. That might be because of my storyteller's fondness for making us fight spellcasters though. Sadly, I didn't get to re-enact the Loki beating. Anyway, if anyone has suggestions for build improvement, or if someone uses it in their game, I'd love to hear about the experience.

Brawling armor + imp unarmed strike. If you are out to just end an encounter, AoMF stacks with brawling armor so a + 5 AoMF and +1 brawling chain shirt give a + 7 to hit and dmg with un armed strikes. Hulk smash...


All of the smashing! I was a fan of grabbing enemies and crushing them to death, coupled with bites and claws.


Awesome find with the link. Personally, I went with the Internal Alchemist variant in Ult Magic to symbolize Bruce's meditation to control the Hulk and Hulk's resistance to disease as well as poison. Rage Chemist was definitely my first opinion, but there is much debate as to how a Rage Mutagen and the Greater and Grand Mutagen discoveries interact. If a DEV would make a judgment on what, if any, increase to STR would be by mixing a Rage Mutagen with either discovery.

EDIT: Not to mention that the level 6 penalty for the Rage Chemist may be a game breaker for the class.


This is so Craig. Sadly I never got to Greater Mutagen, but the ruling I got from my DM in case I did was that the +6 would become a +8. Said cohort and the character he followed left the game at level 11 and 13 respectively, and so I hadn't acquired the XP to assign that particular Discovery. Made me sad, because I really wanted to.


Personally, I'd go with a fantasy world equivalent of Hulk, and be some ungodly Orc/Ogre/Troll combination, and be a Barbarian.

I don't know enough about Alchemists to be able to say whether or not once the key levels are achieved if you should continue investing levels in it... but the Brawler Fighter archetype seems like it would be a strong addition to the character...


Brawler Fighter is a nice option. Let's try and break this down a bit further.

Hulk: RAGE incarnate
Large (in some comics, huge; Orge or Troll is a nice fit), Barbarian (World War Hulk), Uber-STR
Along with fists, WWH used a Longsword or Bastard sword and a Heavy Shield (Could argue it a tower shield, but looks a little small for that in Hulk's hands)

Bruce Banner: Brains, Brains, Brains...
Human (all day long), Alchemist (best fit for the science and personal experimentation to "cure" the Hulk)

It is easy to make them separately, but to combine them into one has been the challenge of it all. A human alchemist (archetype open to the opinion of the creator), general consensus states a 1-2 level dip into barbarian (drunken brute seems best with the alchemist combo, but archetype is open to the opinion of the creator), and finally, prestige class into Master Chemyst (essentially grants you additional uses of mutagen a day).


The hulk with anything less than a 1h greatsword is insulting... Jk.


I referenced it really a Bastard Sword, because it is the most common 1h or 2h sword. He used it in both manners. But, then again, I was looking for the literal transposition. Only mentioned longsword so you would not need the exotic weapon proficiency feat.

EDIT: But yes, could be argued a one handed greatsword. Titan Mauler anyone?

Shame there's no way to practically add the Eldritch Heritage feats for the Orc Bloodline... those additional bonuses to Strength and the eventual Power of Giants where he grows and gets further bonuses would be perfect.


The build listed gives you all martial weapons with the single level of barbarian, and while the brawler is great, Drunken Brute allows players to get their buffs in faster. If one is limited to core races, and wants to keep the theme, I recommend a half-orc with Pass For Human. It eats up a feat, but when they change into a hulking green monster, it's like their true orc heritage is coming out. The Devil Inside, if you will.


Very plausible argument for half-orc. Human gives you some versatility, where as Half-orc would require an Alternate Racial Trait or two to make him more human (Advanced Race Guide; i.e. city-raised, skilled). I know Bruce doesn't have darkvision, but I'm not sure if it has ever been documented whether or not the Hulk does.


Craig, I'd say that because this is a fantasy version, giving hulk more easily adaptable powers would make sense. I don't know how to give him Scent effectively, otherwise I would suggest that instead.


actually there is the scent rage power, and if i'm not mistaken a feat for orc/half-orcs to give them scent as well? Keen Scent (APG 164) *SMASHED*

you could still be human and take the Racial Heritage feat for Keen Scent, that still leaves darkvision out. I mean he's the Hulk not a Predator... Actually that sounds like a fun match up.


Victory! More finagling than I had room for especially, since I focused his build on grappling feats and all their associated power. Also made sure I had power attack on the roster. If I'd been playing him as my lead instead of a cohort I'd have made him a damage-dealer... instead his job was to grab the enemy and hold them still so the rest of the party could beat on them.
