From Magic Section of the Core Rulebook (Arcane Spells):
When preparing spells for the day, a wizard can leave some of these spell slots open. Later during that day, he can repeat the preparation process as often as he likes, time and circumstances permitting. During these extra sessions of preparation, the wizard can fill these unused spell slots. He cannot, however, abandon a previously prepared spell to replace it with another one or fill a slot that is empty because he has cast a spell in the meantime. That sort of preparation requires a mind fresh from rest. Like the first session of the day, this preparation takes at least 15 minutes, and it takes longer if the wizard prepares more than one-quarter of his spells.
While the paragraph refers to wizard it is worth to remember that Wizard was the sole spell-preparing caster at the time of Core Rulebook release.
By RAW Witch rules do not mention ability to prepare spells later in slots deliberately left open for that purpose but it is not unreasonable to assume that the same preparation rules could apply to Witch, with Familiar replacing the spellbook - personally I see no point in giving such ability to Wizard but not to Witch.

I always assumed they worked like the other prepared casters, but RAW they don't. Keep in mind the magic section for the core book only list the core classes. I do think this needs to be looked at so it can be official so I am hitting the FAQ button.
This is correct. A Witch's casting only uses the rules in the Witch class description. A Witch is not subject to the 8 hour casting limit, nor does her rest need to be uninterrupted like a Wizard's.

A witch may know any number of spells. She must choose and prepare her spells ahead of time by getting 8 hours of sleep and spending 1 hour communing with her familiar. While communing, the witch decides which spells to prepare.
The 1 hour does not have to uninterrupted by RAW though, nor does it have the word "daily".

To answer the original question, since the rules in the Witch class don't allow for it, and the Core Rules Magic section specifically references Wizards rather than "Prepared-casting Arcane Spellcasters" or somesuch similar term...
No, a Witch cannot prepare a spell in an empty slot mid-day by taking 15 minutes (or any other amount of time). By RAW, the Witch *can* decide to **sleep** (not merely rest) for 8 hours in the middle of the day and then spend an hour re-memorizing spells.
Of course, a simple change to the Core rules about Preparing Arcane spells that changes "Wizard" to "Non-spontaneous Arcane Spellcaster" or similar verbiage will address this issue, if it was in fact intended to work the in the same fashion as with Wizards.

What does the FAQ-Button do? Where will Paizo answer this? In this thread or somewhere else?
In the FAQ section if they choose to do so.

Preparing Spells in Open Slots: The Magic chapter says a wizard can leave spell slots open and prepare spells in them later. Can any other class do this?
That text was written when wizard was the only class that prepares arcane spells. This option is also available to magus and witch characters (both of which are classes that prepare arcane spells).

Preparing Divine Spells
Spell Selection and Preparation: A divine spellcaster selects and prepares spells ahead of time through prayer and meditation at a particular time of day. The time required to prepare spells is the same as it is for a wizard (1 hour), as is the requirement for a relatively peaceful environment. When preparing spells for the day, a cleric can leave some of her spell slots open. Later during that day, she can repeat the preparation process as often as she likes. During these extra sessions of preparation, she can fill these unused spell slots. She cannot, however, abandon a previously prepared spell to replace it with another one or fill a slot that is empty because she has cast a spell in the meantime. Coff, coff .... Druid.
We have a dichotomy here. This piece speak of preparing divine spells, but specifically limit the ability to leave and fill empty slots to the Cleric.
It is an intended specification or simply an oversight?

None of these posts has a lot of FAQs, but the total is reasonably high.
Someone has gone and searched around for threads with multiple FAQs requests spread in several posts. Thanks to whoever he was.

It is necro if it is done by the PDT or it is resurrection by divine intervention?

CRB, 6th printing, page 220:
Spell Selection and Preparation: A divine s pellcaster
s elects and prepares spells ahead of time through prayer and
meditation at a particular time of day. The time r equired to
prepare spells is the same as it is for a w izard (1 hour), as is

This was fixed in the 4th printing of the CRB, but was not listed in the errata I believe. Due to this, it was not caught in the PRD.
d20pfsrd.com has had the errata applied for a long time now. You should make a post in the New PRD Feedback thread about this.

Thanks Cheapy, I have the 5th printing but hadn't checked that up. I usually use the PRD as a reference.

Following this logic, couldn't the "Fast Study" feat from UM apply then to all spell casters? Or would it remain for arcane casters only?
