DM Aron Marczylo's Kingmaker Recruitment Thread - DM AK's 6 player build for new players

Gamer Connection

1 to 50 of 95 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | next > last >>

The title says it all. It's based on DM Alex Kilcoyne's Kingmaker conversion for 6 players so i'm hoping to grab new people who don't have games by giving them a chance to have a game. However if there aren't enough people without games to fill the spaces then I'll take anyone. Anyway so here we go:

1. download the free kingmaker player's guide to help with character creation and to tell you what it's all about.

2. Character creation I will only be judging backstory and the character's motivation. Do they merely want to tame the land or hope to get something else out of it?

Rules of creation:

15 point buy (i'd like to see roleplaying with any stat dumping, not stat dumping for the sake of stat dumping. Low charisma = either a ugly and/or shy character and so on with other stats.)

Alignment: any non-evil

Classes: core, APG and UM (NO ultimate combat or any other sources)

Races: core races but others could be approved on a case-by-case basis dependent on background and the race.

Feats: Any within reason and if your character meets the prerequisits. Any feats from outside of the sources mentioned under classes will be discussed over.

Traits: 2 traits, one must be a campaign trait

Starting Gear: Anything within reason. Average starting cash for the class.

Notes: I'll be leaving this open for a week, however I will close sooner if there is plenty of interest.

On a final note, no restriction on where your character comes from within reason and your traits too. As long as it's somewhat believeable that your character ended up in Restov and then getting the charter. There are suggestions that you could've arrived on a large trade caravan from Numeria or possibly arrives there on a pilgramige. You would've heard that the Stolen Lands are known to be riddled with bandits and the rulers are looking for people to take care of the bandit problem and secure a trading route for the Rostland.

P.S. About posting, I perfer a minimum of once every 24 hours and will bot the character when in combat. Will require a update if you are going to be ill or somehow unable to post for a while.

Hello, I'm Holbrecht, I believe we've met. I would like to apply with this one (as I'm not sure ours is going to continue).

To drop it to 15 pt buy, I will lower my Dex from 16 to 14, and for cash, lose the mount. Other than that all else should be on target.

EDIT: Missed the "for new players" part. I will gladly be on stand-by if you don't get enough new players.

1. Done. Very excited.

2. I'm thinking of creating a fighter who is the bastard son of a Rogarvian noble. Born to a prostitute in Rostland, he discovered his heritage when his mother showed him his father's signet ring that she had stolen during the night they shared. His mother shared her bed with many men in the past and his heritage cannot be proven, but his mother assured he is the son of a Rogarvian prince. He has done what he can to raise his name and stature, joining the army and proving his worth along the southern border against brigands. That is, until he received his charter into the stolen lands. This is the perfect chance to raise his name to where it should be, heir to the Rogarvian throne.

I'll add and tweak a bit more, just wanted to get something down. Really excited to play. I haven't played on these forums yet, but I've looked through some of the games you are hosting now, Aron, and it looks fairly simple. I'll have to put some more info into an alias and work that out.

Hello,

I saw you were posting up a kingmaker recruitment thread today and wanted to apply to a kingmaker game as a player. I missed my last shot at a km pbp as I was planning my own campaign here but I really want to play this one as well. I can separate character knowledge from player knowledge very very well.

Since I am a gm and in a few pbps, feel free to stick me in the reserves. Also troy applied with holbrecht into my own game so definitely take these fine players over myself. If I see others from my game I'll say hello and humbly suggest their applications over mine.

I have, what I think, a very fun and interesting concept for a summoner. Unfortunately I'm posting from mobile and will have to submit the full story version later tonight.

The sparknotes version of Nikolai is that he was a baby found in a tomb in iobaria by the fanged legion. (They were hunting for treasure/evidence of a rogravian heir). He was taken in and groomed to be a warrior with spell and spear. When the egg hatched an otherwordly two headed dragon-like being, people thought he might be a rogravian heir! His father figure pulled some strings and got him going on an expedition to the stolen lands as to keep him out of brevoy and reach of those who'd rather not see house rogravia return to power.

yeah my character was Davor, an Inquisitor I've been quite fond of. Davor Mason monster hunter.

Sounds pretty awesome as a fighter who tries to make a name for himself after learning about his past. Can't wait to see the rest of the tweeking and I'd take a look more at curse of the crimson throne. it's the AP that I really get along well with.

As this is kingmaker i'll be supplying the map whenever it's updated by the map-maker.

heh, seems I simply say kingmaker and everyone knows about it :p

I know what oyou mean keeping player knowledge seporate from in game knowledge. I am able to do that online as I get to spend the time to think about what I'm about to post, where as in reason life I would accidently say something that shows I know everything about the certain creature.

hmm...had a interesting idea for a kingmaker with using a summoner, but then again I found I also have several others I can incorperate. Hmm...I quite like summoners, unlike my friend who sees them as glorified zoo keepers.

Hmm...wonder if there's any games going my summoner will be welcome.

With the understanding that I am in other games (and thus will be at the bottom of the list, I offer:

Kalenir, Paladin of Abadar:

Coming from a branch of House Orlovsky (albeit a minor one), Kalenir spent much of his young life under the care of tutors, both martial and intellectual. (Trait: Noble Born-Orlovsky, Feat:Cosmopolitan). A gifted negotiator, he embodied much of the Orlovsky ideals, but always felt a bit out of touch with the rather disorganized state of Brevoy's political landscape (Based on the most influential deities of the area, Brevoy seems pretty Chaotic in nature). Were he of lower standing, and less 'city-bred', he may have gravitated towards Erastil, but as it was he spent much of his early life directionless and disaffected.

That all changed during a trip to Restov with his father to perform some court function (he honestly cannot remember what it was...part of some byzantine negotiation for trade rights or some such). While walking through the city, lost in his own thoughts, he became separated from his party, and ended up down a side street, standing in front of a tiny, untenanted and unmaintained shrine to Abadar. Then and there he was struck by an understanding that this was what he lacked...order, and in his heart, he converted at once.

Over the past six months, Kalenir has been embroiled in multiple arguments with his family as they have gently tried to coax him from his foolishness, but he has held fast, absorbing everything he could from what few books were available on Abadar, and seeking out his clerics in the larger cities for instruction. His goal...his calling...has become to bring civilization and order to the untamed wilds of the Stolen Lands.

A Note: I do not play a paladin as 'Lawful Stupid', nor as an uptight prig. He holds to his honor code (and obviously can't operate in a party with evil characters), but he'd prefer to lead by example, not exhortation.

STR 15, DEX 10, CON 12, INT 12, WIS 9, CHA 16
(Low WIS - Despite a sharp mind, Kalenir is often lost in his thoughts, and is perhaps a bit too trusting of people)

HP: 11 - Favored Class:Palading (+1 skill point)
*Traits: Noble Born-Orlovsky, Eyes and Ears of the City
*Feats: Cosmopolitan (Knowledge: Local, Knowledge: Geography), Power Attack
*Languages: Common, Draconic, Sylvan (Draconic seems a logical 'court' language, and Sylvan seems to make sense for an area known to have extensive contact with the first world).
(Note-I still have one language left, and would appreciate input as to an appropriate one)

Skill Ranks (1 Ea):
Diplomacy (+8), Knowledge:Local (+5); Knowledge:Nobility (+5); Knowledge:Religion (+5); Ride (+4)

Nikolai Rivers:

The Fanged Legion is a mercenary company made up of men of the Dragon’s Claws. (Basically a group of spymasters/mercenaries under House Rogarvia tasked with getting the support of dragons.) The disappearance of House Rogarvia has torn the Legion apart. Many of its members have departed in the chaos to pursue their own interests. Those that remain have resorted to unsavory activities, up to and including, banditry and smuggling. Currently, their primary goal is to find what became of House Rogarvia. Thus, the Legion’s agents turn up in the most unlikely of places. This explains why some Fanged Legion members were ransacking a recently discovered ancient tomb in Iobaria.
No one could have expected to find a babe, upon breaking the seal of the tomb. A little boy, wrapped in a red, black and gold blanket clutching an egg was among a treasure-trove of artifacts. Reginald was head of the expedition was unsure what to think of the boy and the treasures they found in the tomb. His uncertainty was half because this boy, due to the insane circumstances of this discovery, could be significant to the disappearance of House Rogravia. The other half of his uncertainty was because he was too busy fleeing. Whatever was in that tomb and guarded the treasure has killed everyone except himself and this boy with this curious golden egg. Nikolai was raised on the road with the Fanged Legion moved as work required them. Without a family, he was given the surname Rivers as all bastards raised near the Sellen are given.
He was groomed to be a warrior as well mastering some magical ability and the boy never let go of this egg he kept. It was always with him, asleep or awake. The egg was warm to the touch, golden and encrusted with rubies. The leaders of the fanged legion dared not sell the egg because Nikolai said it was the key to House Rogravia's return.
One day, Nikolai was waking up after a particularly hot day after training and found his egg cracked open with his belongings. Inside his backpack was the strangest creature. Barely the size of a melon, the creature was scaly, draconic, otherworldly, red, and curiously of all - twin headed. Its small wings proved useless as it is flightless. He was instructed not to tell anyone about this creature until a few days later, Roland Fitz-Rogarvia came to the boy and told him that he had made arrangements for you to explore the Greenbelt and out or Brevoy. Unsure whether or not he is a true Rogarvian, for his own safety, he left for the Stolen Lands with a group of fellow explorers to lay low as they figure out their next moves for this boy’s very existence could threaten the entire stability of the region. His identity would be protected for now, but as time goes on who knows.

Nikolai has all the traits of a king as well as those of a red dragon. He is strong, proud, greedy, arrogant but disciplined, and loyal. He demands perfection from himself and his friends.

I also am entertaining the idea of making him a synthesist instead and taking eldritch heritage(draconic) and/or maybe even dip into dragon disciple.

Ah there we go. Finished it up. Enjoy. Also, I just used this avatar. So you can check out the profile for all the details.

Background:
Lukan Swane was born to a prostitute in the slums of New Stetven. His mother, Maribel Swane was a favorite of the Rogarvian prince that frequented the establishment under hood of cloak, and it was his seed that was planted in Maribel's womb. Although Maribel had other ‘suitors’ she knew who’s child she carried. She was torn, unable to decide whether to keep this child or abort it like all the rest. Being pregnant hurt business, but this was a child of a prince. It’s one thing to stifle the blood line of a commoner, but an entirely different matter to stifle a royal bloodline. One night as she was once again visited by the prince she stole his signet ring. She knew no one would believe she carried his child, but at least she could give her child some hope, some symbol of his lineage.

Maribel continued her work until her pregnancy began to show. Saving what coin she could, she set out to Restov in hopes to start anew, find a husband, and raise her prince. She accomplished all that she set forth and married a local guard. He raised Lukan as his own, teaching him the ways of the sword and shield. Lukan’s childhood was a normal, save one small whisper. A whisper that continued to be heard in his ear anytime he was alone with his mother. “You are heir to the Rogarvian throne. It is your destiny to reclaim these lands as your own.”

All it took were these whispers for Lukan to truly believe his birthright. He practiced hard and long with his father, for he knew he stood no chance in politics, the clergy, arcane studies, or even mercantile endeavors. He knew his body was strong and willing to fight. Honor, prestige, and glory would be his, through feats of strength and combat. There was only one place he could accomplish this within his homelands. That was with Restov’s ninth regiment.

The ninth regiment was renowned for its exploits in the stolen lands. Many of its commanders had begun as mere foot soldiers elevated to that position through countless battles. Battles that ended the lives of many less-hardened men, and weaker commanders sent from elsewhere. For the men in the ninth, life is short, but glorious. A few of the ninth’s commanders that have survived were often elevated in position to serve Restov’s swordlords. This was Lukan’s goal.

On his sixteenth birthday, he was easily sworn into the ranks of the ninth. Volunteers are rare. The ninth finds many of its bodies through conscription. Volunteering to serve in the ninth brings great glory, but it leaves many questioning the volunteer’s sanity. Courage and insanity share many things in common, but Lukan is far from insane. Donning the crimson scarf of the ninth, he courageously fought many bandits and monsters - defending his home with honor. That was until the ninth was sent on a fool’s errand.

It was the ninth that showed the Restov sword lords that the stolen lands would be too costly to settle. The ninth regiment was sent to secure a small area west of the East Sellen River. It was here where they were slaughtered by the bandit lord of Pitax and his ‘armies.’ Only Swaney, as he had been nicknamed by his comrades in arms, and a handful of the ninth survived. Although badly injured, Lukan and what had become ‘his’ men of the ninth returned to New Stetven and informed the Restovian swordlords what had happened. Three hundred men, men of the ninth, had been slaughtered. Lukan was given an honorable discharge from the ninth and received a commander’s reinforced crimson scarf for his gallantry in arms. His men were afforded the same. The ninth was never reformed.

Lukan returned to Restov empty handed. His dreams for glory were shattered. The ninth was his only chance. He joined his father as a city guard and watched his mother fall apart. Two years went by painfully slow as Lukan’s mother health faded. It seemed as if her dreams of seeing her son rise to glory were the only thing keeping the blood moving in her veins and as the dreams began to fade, so did the blood from her face. She died two years after the ninth’s defeat.

Swaney, as his comrades called him, continued to wear his crimson scarf while serving in the city guard. It was only a semblance of the glory he once had. He was 22 and a respected city guardsman with aspirations to the captain of the guard when he received the charter to journey into the stolen lands and serve the swordlords of Restov. It was his second chance, a chance that could not be turned away.

I'd like to play. I'm new to the concept of playing online, but this campaign looks fun.

I'm looking to play a Half elf Oracle with a tendency to have a few drinks and tell some good stories.

I filled out the profile, but here's what I have so far:

Character:

Cambyl
Chaotic Good Half Elf
Oracle w/ Battle Mystery, Tongues Curse
Deity: Cayden Cailean with a nod towards Gorum and Desna

Stats
STR 14
DEX 10
CON 12
INT 13
WIS 10
CHA 16

Traits:
Noble Born, Orlovsky
Savant (Kitharodian Academy): Or something to this effect, basically want Perform: Oratory as a class skill.

Profile:
Pull up a chair, grab a brew, and let me tell you the story of a young Cambyl of Brevoy....

My father was a big shot of the Orlovsky family, but of course I was a bit of an embarrassment. I had a bit of a cushy childhood, but during some political mess it was decided I was too much of an embarrassment and sent me to some distant relatives that lived in Oppara. This was of course foolish, because those relatives were even more embarrassed than my close family. They shuffled me off to the Kitharodian Academy to study something or other, although I didn't really do much studying.

I'm not complaining of course. City life agreed with me a great deal. After all, with a tavern around every corner where one such as myself could usually find a free drink or four at the cost of a good story... I could tell my share of stories. I had (as a matter of my upbringing) a decent knowledge of how to handle myself in a fight, but the first time I held a rapier my life changed.

It was a night where my stories had been well received (earning a fair number of drinks)... and poorly received (earning a friendly duel to settle the insult). A friend lent me the rapier as I had no appropriate blade and the next thing I knew I had won, disarming my opponent in record time with practically no knowledge of what I had done. My friend said I had been taunting everyone, but that I had been speaking gibberish. Naturally, I had a few more drinks.

That night Cayden Cailean visited me in a dream and said I had work to do, and I should get about doing it. I took this to mean I should spend more nights having a few drinks, and more nights getting into a few fights. I think it's safe to say I have done well in this regard.

Of course the Academy didn't agree with this kind of lifestyle so we mutually agreed to part ways (wink), and I must find a new place to find my fights and my drinks. When I heard of the push to reclaim the stolen lands, I figured, what better place to establish myself back near home. After all, everyone needs a good brew, and we're going to need more than a few good blades.

So, it looks like you need a new brew, and I'm sure I can give you a new story... so until Desna brings our dreams, let us speak of deeds Gorum would be proud of, and drink to the battles yet to come.

1st Level Feats/Revelation
Weapon Mastery (Rapier)
Voice of the Sibyl
Bonus: Skill Focus Perception

Skills:
Diplomacy (+9), Knowledge Planes (+5), Perform Oratory (+10), Ride (+4), Perception (+9)

Languages:
Common, Elven, Celestial (From Curse, so all I can speak in battle), Sylvan

As a Half elf, I'd say my second favored class is Bard to fit the character, but I don't intend to have any levels in it.

Still have to figure spells and such, but let me know what you think.

Hello I have never played an online pathfinder game but have played in real life, if you are willing I also have a brother who'd Id like to include on this since around here in MO we have no serious roleplayers always seems like we have ridiculous people with stupid ideas. We are serious roleplayers and would very much likde to be apart of this especially with such a great mod like Kingmaker. If you are willing to explain how we accurately play and the requirements to play online please send me a post and we will then create our characters forthwith and have their backstorys up and running soon.

I'd really like to play on this campaign as well. I am fairly new on these forums, but I do play on one campaign. That said, here's my offer:

Backstory:
Sir Bronwyn Raslov was a great and honorable knight serving a minor branch of the Rogarvia royal family of Brevoy. He fought valiantly in many battles, and was determined to bring justice and honor to the bandit-ridden Stolen Lands. He was robbed and murdered for his troubles.

Derik was a dedicated con-man and highway robber. Born of miserable station (his mother was a tavern girl that lay with travellers, his father unknown among them) he learned early to talk his way out of situations. Using his words and guile he often tricked and conned his living, using the shady coins to pay for simple luxuries. Years spent in taverns and inns, coupled with his personal magnetism, enabled him to learn a magic trick or two with travelling magicians. That then offered him bigger and better schemes. He would find himself a position in travelling caravans and then distract them so his associates could rob them all. That went well, until the day it did not.

Their paths crossed in Restov, the southernmost frontier city of Brevoy. Having failed to ingratiate himself with the elderly knight, Derik had to improvisate. Disguising himself as a peasant by the road, claiming to have been robbed, he convinced the knight to wait and listen to him (all the while his band was circling on him). And then it went all to hell.

They announced the robbery, but the stubborn old fool wouldn't accept it. There were eight of them, all with swords and weapons, and the old man drew his steel, shouting. In the blink of an eye, one was dead, another was missing his right hand and a third a lung. Then they all fell down on him. Derik panicked and, using his blade for the first time against a person, struck him from behind, below his armpit.

No one was supposed to die, and a knight as important as that would surely be missed. They split the knight's ample reserves of gold, but Derik had the dubious honor of receiving his horse, arms and armor (quite valuable, but extremely hard to dispose of). They went to Restov to spend their blood money, but one of them talked too much while drunk and Derik had to wake to the sound of guards coming to his bedchamber. They were being led by a bruised bandit, the one Derik always thought was his only true friend. He ran, hid, and finally rode the dead knight's horse away from Restov, where his head has a price.

Now he's on the run, mounted on a stolen horse, using looted armor and carrying a strange charter issued by the city of Restov. Disguised as an honorable knight (the supposed son of sir Bronwyn Raslov), he's looking for any way out of his predicament. And praying silently his disguise holds and it all doesn't go down to hell again.

Description:

"Sir Bronwyn" is a slender handsome man with shoulder-lenght blonde hair (a trait her mother claims comes from his father) and easy smile. Clad in chainmail and carrying a stolen sword, he looks very much the part of a noble knight, if it were not for appreciation of the finer things in life and raucous laughter. That is somehow compensated with his boisterous nature and personal magnetism (actually he lies really well and manages to believe his lies).

He is looking for a place to hide for some time, and, more deeply, for a chance to change his ways. But is it by pretending to be someone else that he's going to build a better life? Or is it by becoming that person? Or, even more crazily, by revealing the truth and atoning for his deeds?

Character Sheet:

Sir Bronwyn (also known as Derik the Highway Robber, 200gp bounty offered by Restov)
Human Bard 1 CG (maybe taking Cavalier levels in the future with the Battle Herald prestige class if things go that way)
Str 15, Dex 12, Con 11, Int 12, Wis 07, Cha 17 (racial bonus) He will be really weak-willed (a secret coward) and most times his vices get the better of him.

Traits: Brigand, Heirloom Weapon (actually it would represent the knight's stolen sword, and if you'd allow it, he would train the proficiency and the bonus in-game).

Trained Skills: Bluff, Diplomacy, Disguise, Perception, Perform (oratory), Sense Motive, Sleight of Hand, Stealth.

Liberty's Edge

I am currently in a campaign but would dearly love to be in a kingmaker.

Here is my character for your consideration.

Katya Volkv:
Background: A woman of sharp intellect and driving passion. Heavily influenced by the death of her parents during an Inquisitor raid on her home town to remove a demon cult, she was orphaned and taken to a wizards college at a very young age after an occult symbol of Nethys was found scarred into her back, she has been heavily influenced by the loss of her noble status and feels slighted by fate at times. She believes she is entitled to more than what she has been given and that can make her seem abbrasive at times. However, like most wizards, her pursuit of knowledge will generally come before most other concerns.

Personality: Being from a noble family without any claim to her bloodright and raised among wizards and nobles children, she is sensative about certain subjects of her life. She attempts to exude an aura of nobility that sits awkwardly on her shoulders. In the persuit of knowledge she is singularly focused and will lose herself in her studies if allowed to.

Appearance: A green eyed, red haired woman with tanned skin, a strong hint of strange blood runs in her veins as her eyes are slanted upwards and the pupils have an almost cat-like slit. She wears scholarly robes of soft silk with embroidered images down the right side and skirt. A red sash wraps around her waist and holds under the folded cloth her myriad pouches. Her pack bulges with the amount of things kept inside of it and she always smells faintly of jasmine and sulfur.

Kingmaker: Learning of the chance to study the mysteries of the Stolen Lands is too good an opportunity for Katya to miss out on so she has decided to sign up with the expeditions being sent south. Also, in the back of her mind she has begun to formulate possible plans to regain the good graces of the nobility in this venture, and perhaps convince King Noleski Surtova to give her back her title.

Fastest way to explain it to have a look at my Curse of the Crimson Throne Part 2 game as I have gained experience with experienced roleplayers who know the rules inside and out. I will make the occassional mistake, but then again I'm only human.

For out of combat actions I usually role the perception and sense motive secretly as you might might spot a trap when walking through a dungeon or just catch out someone telling possible falsehoods. Bit more realistic like that as there is always the chance to see things when you aren't effectively searching the area to a degree.

You can also decide to take your time if you fear there might be a trap at a door or on the stairs and you want to be certain there are no traps.

To speed up combat I roll for the AoO's so we don't wait all day for a single person to roll an attack which might miss and do nothing but just held up the game.

I also bot a character if someone hasn't replied for 24 hours so we aren't all waiting for a single person who has dissappeared with no explaination or if that person has already stated that they're unable to post for a while due to holiday, hospital or something else unnavoidable.

Hello this is Raventhorn's brother thanks for the help we will upload our characters soon we only having a problem doing the show/hide thing to minimize space if someone could let us in on that trick would really help :)

if you mean the spoiler's it's BBCode which I got used to. I you look under the writing area you can see a area that says BBCode tags you can use.

It'll give you a rundown of bold, spoiler, ooc, dice and so on. Fairly simple, but I had no idea when I first started neither.

[Spoiler=hide] then add your message. Note that hide can be changed to anything u want. Then finish {/spoiler]

Still need to change stats and traits, adjust background for kingmaker but for the most part his profile is complete

Auk, Heirloom weapon trait also gives you proficiency with the bastard sword as if you had exotic weapon feat so you don't need to take the feat as the trait gives you the feat anyway, which enables you to use it one-handed. So no need for exotic weapon proficiency.

Anyway as you said you still have other work on the profile but just saying that for now as your character had both of those yet didn't need the feat if you had the trait.

@Olondir + Swaney

There's a problem with the bloodline as I've been reading up. The character would be contesting the throne from the current ruler and not to mention what happened to House Rogarvia. Here's an exerpt from the stolen lands when talking about Brevoy:

The Vanishing:

The Conqueror sat only briefly on the Dragonscale Throne of the new nation he forged, soon leaving his family to rule in his name. For two centuries, the Rogarvias held the Ruby Fortress and ruled from New Stetven, pacifying minor uprisings and rebellions, and working to weld two disparate lands into one. Under Rogarvian rule, the nation came to be known as Brevoy and grew into a significant northern power. Yet even the greatest of dynasties do not last forever.

In the middle of winter in early 4699 ar, every member of House Rogarvia vanished without a trace. Rumors flew of palace coups and sinister plots, but it quickly became clear that what had occured was something altogether stranger than a mere rebellion. There was no evidence of foul play or struggle within the royal palace, nor in any of the noble villas owned by the Rogarvias throughout the land—the nobles were simply gone, leaving empty manors scattered across Brevoy. A brief period of chaos and panic followed, but by the end of the year, the Surtovas had made their move.

Citing their age-old ties with the Conqueror’s line, they were quick to seize power in New Stetven and extend their reach across Brevoy. With all of Issia seemingly backing the move, Rostland (whose standing army and defenses had increasingly shifted north during Rogarvian rule) had little choice but to bend its knee again. Today, King Noleski Surtova holds the Ruby Fortress and the Dragonscale Throne, yet it remains to be seen how long he can maintain this rule over a kingdom growing increasingly fractious.

The dissappearance is most likely of a magical nature as it was everyone in the bloodline and they dissappeared with seemingly no witnesses. Swaney's background is workable for another family.

@Olondir + Swaney

There's a problem with the bloodline as I've been reading up. The character would be contesting the throne from the current ruler and not to mention what happened to House Rogarvia. Here's an exerpt from the stolen lands when talking about Brevoy:

The trait itself mentions that the character can be from the line of Rogarvia:
Kingmaker Player's Guide wrote:

Bastard (limited to human characters): One of your

Brevoy, perhaps even of the line of Rogarvia itself.

I don't mind if Swaney is from a different lineage, or even truely part of the bloodline. He believes he is and that's all that matters =)

Good point on the trait, still have to look over kingmaker traits to see what ones I want to switch.

Any thoughts on my guy, Aron?

Auk, you may want to keep your proficiency feat if you want to use any bastard swords we find later as 1 handed weapons. The heirloom weapon trait only gives you the proficiency for the 'specific' heirloom weapon. You'd be out of that proficiency if your heirloom weapon was destroyed or lost.

That's precisely why it was so amazing that Nikolai was found in a tomb in Iobaria (the land where Choral came from) and his eidolon is the symbol of House Rogravia! The mysteries of Nikolai's own origins and his connection with the twin headed dragon are entirely supposed to be open-ended so you, the GM, have something to go with if you wanted to do something involing Brevoy and the noble houses. He could very well be the first ever discovered true Rogravian since the disappearances, he could be a magical imposter, or something else entirely!

Auk wrote:

actually I just found this Errata:

The new text:

Heirloom Weapon: You carry a non-masterwork simple or martial weapon that has been passed down from generation to generation in your family (pay the standard gp cost for the weapon). When you select this trait, choose one of the following benefits: proficiency with that specific weapon, a +1 trait bonus on attacks of opportunity with
that specific weapon, or a +2 trait bonus on one kind of combat maneuver when using that specific weapon.

Note that the guidelines for this trait changing do not speak of traits, but we can extrapolate from how feats change

@Cambyl

So far everything looks good. I don't see any glaring problems for the moment and definantly has a interesting backstory.

@Rune

Very interesting backstory. No problem with is being a knight who once served the family in question as it was only those of a bloodline who dissappeared, suggesting servants and those who served under them with none of the family's bloodline in their body was untouched.

I assume the markings on the armour will be a easy way to identify the wearer, more so if someone makes a successful knowledge nobility roll, would you be fine with that?

@Kiradia

No problem with the backstory, I quite like it and see no problems with it. I'm assuming tiefling which appropriately fits in with how they are often face prejudice. The wanting her title back is a interesting angle and as it says in the player's guide, there are a lot of ancient ruins to research, left by various groups that tried to tame the Stolen Lands.

@Swany

Might cause problems as I've said if he had ANY evidence or even suggestion of having that bloodline he would have to contend with the current lord for domain and control. He certainly wouldn't decide to go off south but to try and challenge for his leniage. Would make things easier if it were a different family. Maybe even the bastard son of the current ruler?

Hmm...that's the interesting thing about summoners is that the eidolon can look whatever the summoner wants it to.

Could merely be abandoned at the location as some people would see the child as strange like what happens with some other magically gifted people.

Just a quick note, I'm probably going to switch my Skill focus to Knowledge Planes so I can take some Eldritch Heritages later in elementals.

I expect my Deities think I might need help for some reason and start sending me Elementals to fight with as they will extend my Curse to include Terran around Level 5... assuming i survive that long.

Sorry, I did not mean to make things difficult. It was the easiest, most pronounced royal family in the area to choose from. Plus the bastard trait laid it out right there in front of me =). The lineage is not crucial to Swaney's story or motivations. Since it will make things easier, I will go ahead and change it to one of the Rostland's swordlords.

Aron:

On a side note, however, I'm not sure I completely understand your logic. It seems to me, that a son of a prostitute with the stolen signet ring of a mysteriously lost noble family would be hung without question. Any type of contention with the current lord would be idiocy and suicide for Swaney. It is my fault if I made it seem as if he is 'challenging' anyone for his lineage. I know I had his mother demand it from him, but that was just a hint to his mother's passion and perhaps even her insanity. Instead, I wanted to portray him as a man that has been told all his life that he is something more than he is. Being just a man, and valuing his life, he has attempted to raise himself up and maybe, just maybe, one day take his 'rightful place'.

Yeah, plus it makes it easier considering certain spoilers (I don't think they remembered when making later parts or just plane forgot the last part of the bastard trait)

Swany:

Not true. If you went to public then just hanging you will cause a revolution and spark off riots through out the city. Last thing any respecting leader wants is for his people to have a revolution or even spark off riots.

Though a Chaotic Neutral society, people will care if someone who claims to have such a powerful leniage is killed, not to mention many people idolise Choral the Conqueror as he managed to pull Brevoy together into a single nation and without him they've become bickering city-states once again with no single ruler. Someone who is his son would be welcomed with open arms, as well as if he could prove the leniage which he technically could do with the signent ring and some divining.

Afterall, you can't simply get rid of a problem by hanging, which you players as a group will learn when setting up the kingdom, but I'm not going to give out any spoilers ;)

Ah good old divination. One factor I overlooked. I'm totally on the same page now. Thanks for the clarification. Onwards to the stolen lands!

@DM Aron: Not a problem. Both characters don't have any blood ties with the family line, the knight just served under them before they disappeared, and found himself without a lord whom to serve after that (that's why he jorneyed to the Stolen Lands).

About the armor and the markings. I fully expect to be in a tight spot or two and have to lie my way out of them (probably anyone with a noble lineage or that knows a thing or two about knights will notice a mistake on his part here and there). I think the sword and shield both carry his sigil.

Very interested in joining the online game with my older brother. Never tried it before but have experience story-boarding (trying to be a writer) so perfect for me.

Backstory:

Spoiler:
The bastard son of a Rostlander farmer and an elven maiden, Zayne was separated from his family due to family tension on both sides at a very young age. On his father's side, from who he had inherited his blue eyes and curly brown hair, humans did not see him on the same level, more as a half-breed, and on his mother's side, who 'gifted' to him her lithe form, slanted eyes and slim build, the discrimination was, if possible, even worse. Fortunately for Zayne, a wandering sorcerer took him in when the young boy ran away from the village. For years afterward, Zayne lived with Balthazar, the aged and oft cynical spell caster, in his woodland hut, far away from the hustle and bustle of city, town or elf village life.
Born with a small knack of his mother's racial magic, Balthazar tried to teach Zayne a little of his heritage, but to no real success. His skills in evocation were very poor, he could only perform the meekest of enchantments, and divination spells for Zayne resulted in nothing beyond cloudy water or smudged glass. The only strength Zayne DID possess in the magical arts was conjuration, the ability to summon creatures from different planes. This ability, while its implied complexity gave Balthazar some encouragement that his student was not a TOTAL loss, also made the old human worry. After stumbling upon a magical scroll hidden deeply in Balthazar's private 'study', and memorizing the name etched in what looked like blood, Zayne learned that earlier in the sorcerer's life, he had attempted to summon a very powerful outsider to disastrous results, and the only thing that had saved his life was to seal the beast in the scroll, never to be summoned in fear of its power and unpredictable fury.
Balthazar, being the old crotchety goat of a man that he was, was none too pleased to have his student poking through his things and sent Zayne off into the woods to 'fetch a healthy stag for supper' knowing the boy's ineptitude in hunting. Zayne was gone for hours, and would have been lost in the forest if not for his time exploring the area around Balthazar's hut in the past years and familiarizing himself with nature. Around dusk, incredibly tired and bad-tempered at the "old goat's sadism in sending a lad off alone to hunt what he could never catch" Zayne spotted smoke rising above the trees from where he knew the hut to be. Racing home, Zayne was horrified to discover bandits had found his home. Inside of the burning hut, Balthazar was already dead, and his precious scrolls, tomes and lifelong possessions were burning to ash.
In a rage, Zayne charged the bandits with a branch in hand but, due to his youth and non-too-physically built frame, he was quickly defeated. Just before the bandit stabbed him in the heart, Zayne cried out the name he had read on Balthazar's scroll. He did not care for the imprecations, all he wanted was revenge on the bandits. Time then seemed to slow as Zayne felt a great rush of energy and the blazing cabin behind the group of bandits erupted into an even greater inferno. A voice blazed inside Zayne's head, demanding the answer to a simple question, would he accept the brand of Drakor in exchange for revenge and the power of the beast imprisoned within the scroll.
Zayne agreed without question, and the next thing he saw was the fiery building growing in heat and flame even more and from the fire stepped forth a truly monstrous creature, a bipedal dragon monster with gleaming tuck-like fangs, scaled skin the color of fire and blood, and hulking taloned arms that scattered bandits, trees and stones like straw in a gale. Drakor tore the cowering, scorched bandits apart in bloody abandon, while Zayne looked on in fascinated horror, even as a fiery draconic brand burned itself across the entire right side of his face, the mark of the summoner.
After the 'battle' Drakor then turned upon Zayne, who at first feared that it would slay him too. He was surprised to instead hear Drakor address him as "Master", from that moment on sealing their entwined fates together. Since then, the two have wandered across the Rostlander plains, until Zayne, hearing of the call for adventurer's to scout the dangerous and unsettled Stolen Lands, set out to find their destinies, Zayne hoping to finally find a place for himself in the world, and Drakor ever at his side, content to serve his master as long as there would be bountiful combat. And in the bandit riddled Stolen Lands, both are sure to find what they seek.

Feat: Fey Foundling

Traits: Noble Born House Medvyed, Adopted/Human World Traveler (Diplomacy)

Backstory:

The tale of Thalomin begins with his finding, he was found one summer day beneath the bough of great oak on the edge of the forests bordering the lands of House Medvyed. The woman who found him recognized the markings of the fey upon him and immediately brought him to the lord of the house who also recognizing the gift of the child upon his house adopted him as his own. At the age of sixteen Thalomin entered the same forests he had been found under and vanished. For a year he was missing and his father had all but gave up hope of seeing his adopted son ever again. Yet on the eve of his naming day Thalomin exited the woods a fully grown elf. He went to his father and proved to him that he was the same man by the markings upon him. He explained that he had gone back to the Fey who had gifted him upon house Medvyed and asked for knowledge and magic. The price the Fey had asked had been to stay one hundred years in their realm but only a few in the Human realm. He had accepted and been empowered with the magic of the fey and knowledge of the woods. However there was one final price the Fey had asked of him. He was to go to Restov to and sign on with a group of adventures that would go to the region of the Green Belt. The adventures would have a charter to explore and ultimately settle the Stolen Lands. His task was to make sure the new kingdom would be friendly with the Fey and make sure they did not encroach upon Fey lands. His Father then gave him his blessing and Thalomin Medvyed now sets off to Restov and his future as a diplomat of the Fey and a son of House Medvyed.

Good Luck Aron, shame I can't play your game, as I'm already in a Kingmaker game too. I expect you'll have a good bunch of players and I'll look out for when you start another.

Cheers

Just a reminder, still interested and eager, just standing aside for the new players you opened recruitment for.

@Swaney

Glad you understand the problem there. Will hold out for a few more days. Surprised there's only so few people applying.

@Rune

Yeah I noticed that he didn't have the blood, just served under so no problem. Afterall the info says only the family so I assume the servants woke up with everyone from the family missing and no trace as to where.

@Ragathiel

Interesting choice in deity. No problem with that and enjoyed reading the backstory. I see no glaring mistakes at the moment. Everything seems to check in herolab (apart from resiliant Eidolon as I havn't bought the new UM data package for herolab) so nothing out of place. I assume the +1 for favoured class went into hp, otherwise you're short 1 skill point.

@Raventhorn

No problems I see. Story seems to be fine too. Interesting with wanting to work with the fey which makes sense as there are lots of fey there and there will be many occassions where you will come across and possibly help fey. Not a spoiler as it is a place filled with fey that it's bound to happen, more so when you're setting up the kingdom of course.

@Deevor

Yeah I was afraid that you were most likely already in one. Thanks for the luck though :)

@Holbrecht Bastionne

Don't worry I won't need a reminder :) As I said to Swaney, just waiting a few more days to see if anyone else shows interest.

About the favored class option, i chose the 1/4 addition to the eidolon's evolution pool from being Half-elf (Advanced Player's Guide). Also Resilient Eidolon merely allows the Eidolon to maintain corporeality in the material plane if the summoner falls unconscious or asleep for i believe either 4 rounds or equal to its Con mod

DM Aron, I'm surprised at the interest as well, but I think there just isn't that many players without a game.

I've almost finalized my character and I just had one question - How do you handle the use of Professions? In the rulebook it says it can be used as a knowledge check sometimes and I was looking for something similiar to knowledge (warfare), but the only thing that came close was Profession (Soldier). I wanted my character to be skilled in the art of warfare. It would really fit his background that he would know a little about warfare.

I agree with Swaney as well I mean I think me and my brother only ones without a game haha though I like the idea of getting started on our first game online with a mix of pros and first timers always sucks trying to understand stuff with everyone else going "Hurry up" and "Duh" so hope this goes well we both looking forward to this game.

This'll be my first time playing online. I've played with a local group for some time now, but its died down and I need my dnd fix :). If you ever have any questions, Raventhorn, feel free to ask. I'll gladly help you out. I've been in your shoes before and I know how much of a pain it can be.

So far it looks like we have you and your brother, Cambyl, and myself without games (not too sure about Auk). And it looks like there is a good group is forming =).

Well Swaney in your opinoun is there anything else me and my brother need to do to be ready to start?

Raventhorn, hope you don't mind but I read about your character and it looks awesome! Looks like there's lots of interesting RP possibilities in the group!

Hey Aron, I'm going to withdrawl my application. You have plenty of interest and I don't really have time for another game after-all. Best of luck, good sir!

Definitely interested. I'm new to these boards and am playing no other PBPs at all.

I'd like to enter a synthesist summoner or a paladin of the holy light. I'd prefer the summoner but his personality/background is not to everyone's taste. I'll post more tonight if it's not too late to do so.

Thanks!

I don't want to step on DM Aron's toes. So I'll give ya some suggestions, but he's da boss.

Both of you should select your spells. There is a great wizard guide that I suggest you at least take a look at: Treantmonk's Guide . But be very aware, this is an optimization guide and RP always trumps optimization. I've given it to you primarily to get some ideas on tactics and spell selections. RP is a priority, but I for one like to play an effective character that fits in well with RP.

Also, you should probably start selecting your equipment. Mundane items at this level are very helpful and if you do not list them, then, well, you don't have them (unless DM Aron is a nice DM that says you can exchange your wealth for mundane items, but I've only seen that ruling in short, quick, and in-person games. I have a feeling we need to be detailed on here.)

Both of you have NPCs that you need to build. Your brother has an Eidolon and you have your familiar.

Lastly, check out my profile by clicking my name. I shamelessly stole Holbrecht's profile formatting, but I think it is pretty slick. Kudos on the format, Holbrecht. I'm no message board RP expert, but I think its a good idea to put all your information in your profile. Here is that formatting Holbrecth used (you can go in my profile and expand the selections, there is nothing I'm hiding there):

|spoiler=|b]Basics[/b]] blah blah [/spoiler]
|spoiler=|b]Racial Traits[/b]] blah blah [/spoiler]
...and so on... replace the | with [ and hopefully you get the idea.

The two don't need to be mutually exclusive :).

I would also recommend Treantmonk's guide although remember its a little out of date with APG out.

Due to lack of interest I'll start up tomorrow. Will have to get the map of the area (of course the areas you have no yet examined blacked out), and pick places to add one or two extra places. Afterall, that's the real fun of this Sandbox is that I as a DM can technically add new things that aren't in the AP and no two KM games are the same.

For those that don't know how to make a alternate profile go into my account and there is a area where you can add a new alternative. I have many myself...

...like this one, Krolmnite Underhill my Summoners. The stats being remade with Hero Lab.

Would tonight be too late to post my character? I'm at work and can't do it yet. I play PF irl but have no PBP games at all.
