Lots of spells, and lots of answers to questions no one has asked yet.

That is quite possibly the most intriguing answer you've ever given.

Yup! Her brother, Zon-Kuthon!

"So you can like, get over this glaive and pain fetish and bring a grandchild for Mom, who's been bugging about this for eons!"

I can see that a guy who's idea of a pickup line is "I want to inflict massive pain on you and spill your blood all over me." might be having a problem with the dating scene.

Senor Jacobs,

1. Did you watch Tales from the Darkside growing up, and if you did what did you think of the show? What was your favorite monster?

2. What about the "sequel" show Monsters? Did you enjoy that and if so what was your favorite creature. I have been watching it over youtube, but am only in the first half of season 1

3. Ever watch Lost Girl? Although the show has a painfully low budget which limits what it can do with creatures effects, I am impressed with all the obscure creatures from mythology (and sometmes DnD) that show up on it. Baba Yaga, liches (with phylacteries!), and even the Slenderman have all showed up so far, amongst even more obscure stuff like Cherufe, Batibat, Lightning Birds, etc.

4. on a completely different tangent, how does the Dominion of the Black view the Old Ones and their cults? Competitors? threats? pawns? things to be avoided?

5. Same question, only how do the Old Ones and their cults view the Dominion.

6. I am guessing you won't answer this, but what is the agenda of the Dominion of the Black. It's easy to get at what the Old Ones want, since we have Lovecraft and his proteges to read, but that isn't the case for the Dominion?

Now I am just picturing ZK in a tattered suit standing in front of a mirror, with Shelyn straightening his bow-tie before sending him on a blind date that she set up for him.

4) A little, yeah... It vexes me not to answer every question! :P

8) I playtested it once, but I didn't care much for Towers. And the worst? That'd vary on a per-person basis, I would think. Some folks might like fiends or being boiled in wax or dwarves.

9) If it was only one more book, it'd be an Inner Sea World Guide sized book about Tian Xia. It's much more likely that we'll do a shorter book on a different continent before we do a significant amount more with Tian Xia though unless we see a sudden upsurge of interest and excitement for more Tian Xia stuff.

Are kobolds any different in the Mwangi Expanse and the Shackles than they are on the rest of Golarion?

Will kobolds ever claw their way out of obscurity and get their own land/kingdom/empire like the orcs of Belkzen? Likewise where would the ideal place for them be and what would it be like?

Can Kitsune and Ratfolk contract lycanthropy? Got a couple of them in my Crown of the Kobold King adventure and I suspect that Jeva is probably going to maul the party a bit by the end of the adventure (they didn't get the silver daggers). Given that Kitsune are shapechangers I'm not entirely sure how lycanthropy would affect them if at all, was thinking that it would adapt accomodate for the Ratfolk and become a wererat instead.

Nope; kobolds from the south would have different customs and practices than their northern kin but their basic stats would be the same.

Kobolds kind of enjoy not being noticed. They get more done when folks aren't paying attention.

Yes; any humanoid can catch lycanthropy. It's kinda weird, visually, to imagine a ratfolk werewolf though, so I doubt you'll see that show up in print anytime soon.

1) Absolutely; I LOVED those shows, along with others like Twilight Zone, Monsters, Outer Limits, etc. My favorite monster from Tales from the Darkside was the Grither.

2) Heh... I mentioned Monsters before I read question #2, so that's a good sign there! I think my favorite was the very first episode, with the Lovecraftian bed, simply due to the wacky factor.

3) I watched the first episode and it didn't really hook me. I've got the show tagged on Netflix and some day will give it more of a chance—succubui are super awesome, after all, but I have a feeling the show suffers by not being on a network like AMC or F/X or HBO where they can afford to get sexier and riskier. And would have more money for things like effects and writing. The idea that there's a lot more interesting mythological monsters in store makes me want to watch it more though...

4) Allies and competitors alike.

5) Pawns, if they even notice them at all.

6) The Dominion's goals and agenda is still secret for now. There's a few hints revealed in "Doom Comes to Dustpawn," but not a lot... we're still sitting on the Dominion for now and waiting for the right time to explore it.

On 3), I generally think the second season is better than the first. Just keep your expectations in check on what the creatures look like, since most of the time they don't have the budget to make accurate renditions of folklore creatures, so they tend to come off as immortal humans with funky powers.

What are the odds of us getting a AP with the Dominion of the Black being the big bad?

Sovereign Court Contributor

Actually Lost Girl is riskier in a different way than a bunch of American shows. The show has made a deliberate effort to not stigmatize female sexuality (particularly polyamorous bisexuality) in its writing, though it does address the ways in which our culture does "slut shaming." Obviously, this kind of approach is necessary if one has a succubus as the lead, and since the succubus pretty much embodies male fears and desires regarding women and their nature, it makes for a better show, sometimes, than True Blood (in my opinion).
It's also lighter, which can be refreshing. But it does sometimes seem like monster of the week/a carnival with the sheer number of different types of Fae. And sometimes it bugs me in the total monster geek way, when they interpret some legendary being in a way I wish they hadn't. But I recommend it - give it a shot, James!

James,

Why have the AP map folios gone to just a couple of big, large area maps? For example, the original RotR had a bunch of the smaller encounter maps included, which is invaluable to GMs like me. Is this something you guys are ever going back to?

Because customer feedback on the earlier version of the map folios was pretty much, "I love the poster maps, but the pages of reprinted maps from the Adventure Path are useless." Folks, on the whole, did NOT like those maps, and felt like they were getting cheated and were being tricked into buying the same maps they'd already gotten in the adventure path, and so we transitioned to using this product as pretty much our only method of getting big poster maps published.

But your GM gets to make that call for your game, not me.

The Magaambyan Arcanist is called out as being a prestige class for both wizards and witches, despite its focus on (and requirement to have) Spell Mastery. This seems to imply that the feat should work for any arcane caster who prepares spells, whether the spells are held in a book or in a familiar.
Or it implies that the designer of the prestige class forgot that Spell Mastery requires 1 level of Wizard to take. That said... I don't have Paths of Prestige handy... is Spell Mastery a requirement for the class?

Yes, it does require Spell Mastery.

Of course, accounting for inflation and oil prices and all that rising in the last several years, I suspect a brand new one similar to that would end up retailing for $100 or more anyway.

I haven't, and don't know. Although I'm not sure what novel you're talking about, since I'm more aware of when the books ship to the printer and when they show up on my desk, and neither of those dates is the same as the day that they go on sale in stores.

I've got a question about deities this time.

How common is the worship of Ragathiel in Mendev?

YES! James you should watch Lost Girl! (Its a horrible show sometimes but they did/do introduce the more rare monsters to public)

I do hope that monsters like Cherufe and Batibat will end up in Paizo products after you seen the show, the real mythology monsters are much better tho, but Lost Girl at least brought them to the public, which should learn more about such rare creatures as we have seen Dragons, Minotaurs and Zombies by now.

I hope many of the mythic beings show in lost girl end up in the bestiaries sometimes, not in their lost girl looks of course but in their paizo/real myth looks.

And is bestiary 4 already in the making?

How much weight can a Roc Animal Companion carry and still fly?

“Flying mounts can’t fly in medium or heavy barding.” Core Rule Book, Page 162.

“A medium or heavy load counts as medium or heavy armor for the purpose of abilities or skills that are restricted by armor. Carrying a light load does not encumber a character.” Core Rule Book, Page 169.

RAW, that means a medium sized Roc (12 Str at 2HD) can carry 43 lbs or less.

Thoughts?

I have a player born to a Maurya-Rahm family in Jalmeray. The family is not Vudrani.

1) Is that possible in baseline Golarion or would that be quite rare for a non-Vudrani family to be Maurya-Rahm? I know there are several ethnicities and races in Jalmeray but I can't seem to find a mention of which ones make up the Maurya-Rahm.

2) This character was born aasimar (signs: flawless skin and hair so perhaps more subtle than most aasimar) and ended up forsaking the Vudrani gods (which his family did follow), sneaking out of Niswan and traveling north to find his calling (fighting returning Runelords, it seems). Any notes on how the Maurya-Rham would feel about this player leaving? Would they care or would it be a matter purely for the family to deal with?

3) The group has completed the first four chapters of Runelords, thereby saving Varisia from giants. In general, how quickly would this information spread outside of Varisia?

This player expressed a desire for his history to come up more so I'm having one of his siblings turn out to be an Ebon Destroyer and I'm adapting the Ebon Destroyers module to be a side quest for the group now that they can get around the world quickly with magic.

Who was the artist for he Divine Herald Thais in Pathfinder 14: children of the void? I've tried looking everywhere but can't seem to find out who it was.

I forgot to ask this yesterday:

Is there any interest/possibility in doing an NPC book focused on "monsters" with class levels. Like goblins, drow, orcs, so that GMs have an easy place to look when they need stats for an orc chief or hobgoblin general?

James,

Burning Questions:

1) Was the Starstone in some way responsible for the destruction of Eox, Damiar and Iovo?

2) Other gods in the past have died with no (recorded) cataclysms on Golarion. Is the reason there was a massive series of cataclysms tied to Aroden's death the result of him being a Starstone-ascended deity?

3) Was the Silver Mount in Numeria pulled down at the same time as a chunk of the diaspora and the Starstone?

Hi, James.

Still thinking about Ilvanandin and Lost Carcosa...

1) Was the name of the city of Korvosa influenced by the name Carcosa?

2) You've mentioned that copies of The Necronomicon exists in Golarion, and that it's actually originally from Earth. Are other of Lovecraft's mythos works in existence in Golarion (e.g. De Vermiis Mysteriis, The King In Yellow, Unasussprichlichen Kulten, The Book of Ebion, etc.)?

3) Does Carcosa itself exist somewhere in the game-world?

Thanks!

The fact that a wererat ratfolk wouldn't look any different from a normal human wererat or a normal ratfolk does indeed mean that it's a pretty boring option—it's not something I'd do in an adventure, for sure. It's like dipping a chocolate bar into chocolate. Kinda pointless.

I've had time for WoW here and there; I'm enjoying it, as I knew I would. And I still kinda don't really like the pandarens much, but the hozen are pretty funny. Hah.

I know a human wererat looks pretty much like a ratfolk in hybrid form, but isn't the hybrid form described as a mixture of the animal and the humanoid form?

So shouldn't a wererat ratfolk in hybridform look rather like something between a ratfolk and a regular rat? Basically getting close to a regular rat but with a few distinctions such as bipedal locomotion and maybe sligtly longer limbs?

That's correct. A medium-sized roc can't carry a lot of stuff and still fly. That's more or less by design, since allowing a 1st level character access to a flying mount is pretty overpowering... so the fact that the weight load makes it tricky and/or difficult to pull off before the roc becomes higher level is intentional.
